I was shocked to see this website...I just got a bill from a debt collector that claims I owe Verizon 727.81 from a landline telephone I allegedly had back in 1995.  When I was in high school.  And lived with my parents.  At a different address than where this random phone line was connected.

What is going on?

Here is my situation, after I retire and I decide to get rid of my old phone number because of the number of calls I received. Big mistake. My wife open an account through her office and we purchased a new phone and received a new phone number. During the day I would receive countless calls asking for a Mr Jackson. Finally I blocked the numbers, but the call kept coming, spoof calling, I quit answering if I did not know the area code or number.
A year ago I got a call from Verizon, automated of course, asking for Mr Jackson regarding my account. Press 1 if you are Mr. Jackson, press 2 if you are not. I pressed 2 then was ask several question replying via number codes. A operator came on line and ask me if I was Mr.Jackson, I told her no, she started integrating me as though I was a murder suspect. do you know Mr Jackson, NO! I told her the account was under my wife's name and I was her husband and my name, she said she would correct this error,
Then last Wednesday it started all over again, same question, the operator told me she would fix the problem. 2 days later I get the same call, asking me a thousand questions, same reply they would correct the error. ALAS it was over, I thought, yesterday, Friday, I get the same call, by this time I was irate, I ask the operator; with all this technology, why you can not see that this number is not Mr Jackson??... Her answer: sir we are not connected to Verizon. What do I have to do to convince you people that I am not Mr. Jackson? She told me the error would be fixed and I would not receive any more calls..........I bet money it will.

Verizon has sent me to a collections agency for a bill I did not know anything about.  My last bill from them was in January for $.02.  I sent a letter of dispute  through the collection agency but apparently Verizon does not have to answer the dispute and can give the account to another collection agency.  This agency has said they will settle for  less than the bill which is $16 less than the bill but now I read that it can still go to another collection agency.   How does this get resolved and how can Verizon come back at you after they have sent a final bill.

    Hmmmm
We just got a bill from a collection agency called Total Card, Inc. for a bill for Verizon for just under $200.00  The thing is, we have NEVER had Verizon!  I have no idea what this is about.

I also have a bill from Verizon, amount of over $7000, on my credit report. Tried disputing but was told it was verified as my bill. Thing is I have never in my life been a Verizon customer nor a customer of any affiliates of Verizon. I've had Sprint in past & am currently with US Cellular. Was told the account was opened in 2015, while I was a US Cellular customer.
