It's very simple. The US Government does not give out grant money without you filling  out the proper paper work. Plus, they never ask you to go to a Western Union place to sent a fee for the money to be sent to you. The US Government then will send you your check thru US mail after your application is approved. Plus they will never ask you for a bank account for the money to be transfered. Never give your social to any one over the phone or your drivers license or bank account. I too got a call and immediately realized it was a scam.  If it sounds too good to be true, then it's a scam.

Well the same thing happen to me today, when a woman call me explaining how I was pick over thousands of people to receive grant money from the federal government. And I had to contact this number 202 657 6708 and speak with this guy name Richard Dawson in order to receive my money. At first they almost had me because he was saying all the right words, until he mention how to receive the grant money without being tax by the federal government. I knew from that point it was a scam. Especially, when he told I had to get this money pak card and deposit $190.00 on the card. Now, why would the federal government need for you to go that route in order to receive government money? This sent red flags immediately to me!!! People don't be fool by these scam artist...

I received a call from the United States Grant Office this afternoon to inform me that I was one of the 15,000 US citizens selected each year to receive an $8,400 grant.  The grants are given only to those who paid their taxes promptly and had not filed for bankruptct or been convicted of a criminal offence during the past 12 months.  It was stipulated that the money must  be spent for a worthy purpose such as home remodeling or education, and _not_ for gambling or any other unworthy pursuit.  I thought that the caller had a slight Eastern European, possibly Russian accent.  When he got to the point of asking for my account numbers I reminded him that he has my mailing address, so he can mail the check to me. That was not allowed, so I just hung up and googled $8,400 scam and here I am writing to you about my lost opporfunity to have my accounts cleaned out.

Yup exact same scenario here. I played them for a while. Asked how in Gods name can the Govt be giving free money when it's broke. I think that totally confused him. Asked for a check same as you then whether or not it could go into my Paypal account. He said yes maybe not knowing what Paypal is. I contemplated delinking my Bank account from Paypal and calling their bluff but thought better of it, As long as people seem willing to believe this crap it will continue

I just got the call and the same middlx eastern accented LADY told me i was going to get 8400 dollars too! She assured me it wasn't a scam and said she would stay on the phone with me while the made the transfer to western union! I asked her why they couldn't just take it out of the 8400 and he said they can't do it that way, I have to pay the one time donation then get the funds. This is crap and i want to report them but to who?

I received a similar call, but they required my checking, savings or prepaid credit or debit card info.  If its free and I am eligible, the government would be able to send me a check.

I knew from the start that this was a scam, so I played along because it was my day off and I had nothing better to do. Lol! I gave the guy a fake debit card number and a fake address (the one he "so-called" had on file was wrong anyway), then played along like I was excited. The whole time I was recording the conversation and tracing the number. And of course, the number was masked to show as if he was in Washington, D.C. At the end of the call he told me about the "donation" and then the fun started!!! I asked a few stupid questions, like "Where are you located?" and "What's the area code on the next block?" He became frustrated and started cursing....LOL! I then explained how the information he had were all lies, and that he couldn't scam a two year old out of a dollar if he had seven quarters!! I had fun! But I do wish that these Punjabi scam artist are caught, and soon! There are a lot of people who would fall for this and give up vital information as if they weren't already doing bad from the start!
