THE WASHER WAS BROKE WHEN I GOT IT THE SERVICE MAN CAME OUT CHECKED IT ORDER A DRUM AND ALL THE BARRINGS HE SAID THEY WERE DESTROYED,THAT WAS 3 WEEKS AGO I CALLED THEM TO SEE WHAT THE HOLD UP WAS,THEY SAID IT WAS ON BACK ORDER.I HADN'T HEARD ANYTHIG.I CALLED AGAIN STAYED ON HOLD 1:45 MINUTES,THEN CALLED HOME DEPOT WAS TOLD IT HAD BEEN DISCONTINUED AND THEY WERE DELIEVERING ME A NEW WASHER AFTER I HAD TO CALL CONTINUSLEY AND STILL NOT HAVE RECIEVED A NEW WASHER YET. Bought a brand new townhouse in October of 2010. It was loaded up with maytag and whirlpool appliances. Washer and dryer. Fridge and oven cooktop. I had had problems with my Neptune washer back in 2001 and with our fridge back in 2003. I tried to get the builder to swap them all out due to the history we had with them a few years ago. Being part of the class action on the old Neptune and the crummy workmanship on the fridge I had a feeling that history would repeat itself. I was right. 14 months after purchase the fridge computer went junk. I was lucky and the supplier covered that one for me. Now 19 months in the series 3000 washer has gone out. An error code comes up with F70 or f71. I had sears come out and look at it. The first question was "did you buy a service contract carouse these machines can cost you in repairs". He pulled on of the 3 computers out and put it back and the codes clears and it all looked good to go for only $125 bucks. Repairman leaves and I run a load. When I go back to check on it the same 71 error code is back and the cycle had been aborted. So now I'm looking at a $500+ repair to replace the board.
I am writing to warn the public that the Maytag/Whirlpool line is all crap. They have not learned anything over the past 10 years. There are plenty of other people that have put the same warning on the Internet and I am here to scream it at you one more time.
Maytag and Whirlpool appliances are CRAP. Do not purchase anything they make. They continue to leave the customer with the problems that they continue to neglect. The company knows that the build and deliver inferior appliances yet they choose their stock investors over their customers.
Buyer Beware!  And if you still choose to buy one, at least buy a good long service contract because you will need it.

It looks like this site is another Maytag dead end. The site Melanie directed me to has phishing warnings on it that I'm not getting in to. Just what I need is for my Maytag crap washer to contaminate my computers. Someone pass the baby wipes.

Same problem, same run-around.  This is not the only forum that I have seen where literally hundreds if not thousands of people are having the EXACT same issue.  There is a formula that corporations use to determine the feasibility of a recall.  It includes factors such as "blow off the customer and convince them there is no problem", "try and get them to pay for it", "determine how many customers will actually pursue the issue past the initial rejection", "calculate legal expenses for the really stubborn customers" and lastly "fix the issue when faced with certain loss and/or punitive damages".  Then... determine how many units were  sold and the cost to properly replace and/or fix the total number of units sold.  Use the "customer comes last algorithm" and whala...  If solution A is cheaper than solution B, no recall.  If they would record the horrific noise the washer makes and capture the magnitude of how bad it really is and play that in the background of the Maytag Service call center, while they are trying to get some work done, who knows... they may be a little more empathetic to the problem.  Where exactly is  that lonely and bored Maytag repairman they always used in the older commercials?   You can bet I am not done with this issue!!

So contacting Melanie is a waste of time?  We have had the exact same problem, purchased the Maytag 4000 series in fall of 2010 and starting making the jet noise a few months ago.  I purchased the extended warranty just in case and am glad I did so at least I'm not totally out of luck.  I had a repair person come out for an electronic problem and mentioned it was also loud which is when I was told it was the bearings and that the bearings and tubs needed to be replaced...and as you all know, that is at least $700.  The warranty company will not repair it since it is not cost effective and they will only give me 75% of the current purchase price (which is $698).  I had paid $798 and at least $250 for the warranty and a little over a year later am only going to be compensated $523.  So even with an extended warranty you are pretty screwed by Maytag.

I definitely think a class action lawsuit is long overdue.  There are nothing but complaints all over the internet about this exact problem with this machine so this is by no means a fluke.  Has anyone started a lawsuit yet?

I am having the same problem with our Maytag 3000 series front load washer.  In the spin cycle it sound like the drum is going to come off and is very very load.  After reading all the threads it sounds like the bearing has given way just like all of you.  I also purchased this at Lowe's and I am sure the extended warranty has expired.  This is ridiculous for a washer that cost over $1100.

And Melanie...I will send my information as long as you will get something done.  This is pretty bad for a company that claims to be the best.

I am in on the lawsuit.  I just want my equipment fixed.

Same issue as everyone else, a Maytag 4000 series bought new from Home Depot in Sept 2010 and now sounding like a jet trying to take off when spinning. Spinning the drum by hand also makes a strange noise, so I guess the bearing is completely dead.

Has anyone gotten any kind of reply when emailing maytag.digital@maytag.com (the email that Melanie provided)?

Seems like Maytag has it figured out: Sell more defective Products.
F70 and F71 codes are blinking on my series 3000 washer after only
    14 months of use.
The top loading washer I replaced was 20 years old.
No service contract, so I guess I lose.
    Thank-you Maytag!

I also have a Maytag 3000 and it sounds like a jet engine after 1.5 years. So much for those commercials where their equipment doesn't need service, I should have kept the ones i had that were 10 years old and still worked. Does anyone know what it costs to get it fixed? Is anyone still doing the lawsuit?

My receipt from a&e service repair for the bearing was $160 for labor to diagnose, $1500 for parts ordered. I can't find the one that says how much it cost when they came to do the 6-8 hour repair but I can imagine the cost was insane. Luckily it was still under warranty but now that the problem is happening again, mine is no longer under warranty at a year and 8 months past purchase date. Please join the class action suit and email tdkeene@charter.net

Front seal on the door just went.   I have had this washer for three years....flooded my laundry room floor.  I am glad it doesn't hold that much water or it would have been catastrophic.  I have them stacked so I need to pay for two guys to come out and the rubber part is 97 dollars.  Thinking about selling it as is and buying a new one.    3 years old last month.  Go figure.

We have the same problem with our Maytag 4000 series washer. IThere really should be a recall. Send me anything if there is a lawsuit filed. Alamer1@wi.re.com I can't afford to have mine fixed after only having it for 2 years and now the bearings are shot.

Got the same problem and runaround from Maytag "Customer Service" regarding the bearing issue on my 4000 series.

Since these Einstein's use an unsealed bearing, the problem will be recurring.  The design is flawed, and it seems soapy water will wash the lubricant out and corrode the bearing.  What a dumb design choice!

My concern is that these bearings will fail and allow soapy (conductive) water to seep through the bearing, leading to leakage and a potential shock hazard.  Great, not only are these products noisy, but they can become potentially lethal!

I filed a complaint with the Consumer Products Safety Commission, urging them to investigate this problem and recommended a full recall of these products.

If you are concerned about this, contact the cpsc at www.cpsc.gov and file a complaint.  We pay tax dollars for this service, use it!

I am having the same problem with my washer. Just contacted Maytag and they said I should be happy that they are paying for the parts but refuse to pay for the labor. Is there a class action suit? I have been researching this problem and see that there are complaints all over the internet. I am currently contact the BBB to get the ball rolling.
