We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

this website maybe one of the few sites left where all can band together and stop the db madness. lately the commercials are promoting remodeling and furniture and getting away from the 'anything and everything for your home' format. they are feeling the pinch, ag's maybe forcing their changes.

    HI ALEX
I just sent you a very detailed response, just wanted to let you know so that you do not miss it,
I'M pretty sure that I covered all the most important details,

hopefully, Egnar will respond back & mention who he spoke to, at the db corp.
another sugggestion would be to call the corp. ofc. yourself
do not say who you are & say that you would just like to confirm the corp. policy re: 3 day cooling-off,  because you were thinking of joining.....

ask for the person's name....& you could add this info to the letter that I suggest sending to the location where you joined....

    update us soon.......don't give up!!!!!!!!!!

    HI GMTOR
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE HERE, SEND PRIVATE E-MAILS,
IT'S BAD ENOUGH THAT DB HAS OPEN ACCESS TO THIS SITE,
THEY OCCASIONALLY POST A BUNCH OF DISGUSTING LIES HERE
& TRY TO TRICK OTHERS INTO DISCLOSING PERSONAL EXPLICIT DETAILS,
& there is no legit reason for anyone to communicate privately,

All the info you need is here & I try to give personal responses to as many people as possible.......

By the way, we have never heard from you before, & you want a private response.......It gives me reason to be suspicious,
I hope that everyone will stay cautious & on guard.......
& of course, DO NOT GIVE UP THE DB B.S. FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gotta vent again...  So thankful for this blog.

Nice to have had a weekend off. away from home (db Tampa, FL)wanna say tho, even with a nice night away in Orlando, as we drove back, thinking of all our future plans with house, finances, lives, etc. there it is again:  Direct Buy - 5490 buccaroos FOR NOTHING BUT REGRETS. plus the lesson of never doing THAT again.
D _ _ n !!!that DB, should have cancelled within those initial 3 days.
Now, 11 months later, it's way more of a struggle to rescind from agreement,,, very tedious
    NOPE, not giving up..
Still going after our Money!  plan to post the good news eventually.  Remember, the turtle won the race and not the hare..

Alf- while studying "Our Vision" a DB booklet, there's a number you may try contacting for a copy of an 'Agreement'.  That's what ours is called, not a contract per say.  Plus this ".. Vision" booklet is packed with DB info.

Each franchise is different I've heard, so the agreements probably are worded a bit differently.

Here's a number you may find useful.  Ask for a copy of Agreement.  Maybe say you've lost yours.. Or that you're moving and need to find another DB store.  See if they'll furnish another agreement copy for a different store & location.  If you're a member that is.
Anyway, ours had the 3-day cancellation option.  I was unable to pursue it at the time.
Could this be their Corp Ofc?  =

    Still Mad as HELL!!!!!!!!!!!
DOES ANYBODY REALLY THINK THAT THESE F'N F'RS ARE GOING TO VOLUNTARILY GIVE
ANYBODY A COPY OF THEIR CRIMINAL CONTRACT?????????
btw, their contracts must have changed recently to co-0rdinate with their new commercials where they now promise you nothing X nothing plus nothing,
except some lousy new con, of a chance to win a home make-over....
anyway, they still make me as mad as the day I got  conned,
even tho I got my money back

they won't ease up on the scam, no matter what they hell we do........

    Trudy,

I signed up with DB in GTA Ontario on Friday July 2nd and sent a registered mail requesting cancellation on Monday July 5th giving them 15 days to respond.

The owner left me a voice mail wanting to know the reason for the cancellation. I called them and left a voice mail that I am not interested in talking further but want to cancel the agreement and refund in full and any future communication be in writing. One of DB's employee called me to ask some personal infomration to process the membership at which time I told her that I had already requested to cancel the membership. To date (more than the 15 days) no response back from them yet about cancellation.

I see in your earlier comments not to meet them in person and the statement from Fesperman about 3 day cancellation period. So i am planning to send this letter. Is it good to say I did not use their services, will they use it against me to say that I did not even try to find out if there is savings? Please let me know if this letter is fine.

    XXXX
    Franchise Owner
    Direct Buy
    XXX, Ontario

    Sub: Cancellation of membership

    XXXX

This is a follow up regarding my request, sent to you by registered mail on July 5th 2010, for cancelling my DirectBuy membership agreed to on July 2nd 2010.

It is more than two weeks now and I have not received confirmation of the cancellation.

I reiterate that I want to cancel my membership and ask that you immediately refund in full the membership fee charged to my American Express.

I have requested cancellation within the 3 day time limit allowed per Direct Buy's corporate policy referred to by Ms Christine Demarsh, president and owner of the Direct Buy franchise in Barrie, Ontario in the CBC program Marketplace - The price cut promise dated March 27,2009 and stated by  Mr. Bart Fesperman, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, DirectBuy, Inc. as "Regarding our cancellation policy, any new member can cancel their membership within three days of joining. Members outside of the three-day policy who are experiencing problems with their membership are welcome to contact their local franchise to discuss resolution."

After agreeing to the membership on Friday July 2nd under undue pressure, I never scheduled or attended an orientation session, never visited any of the DirectBuy franchise to view the confidential prices and in no way made use of your company's services for my benefit. On one of your employee, XXX, calling me on Wednesday July 7th, I told her that I had already requested cancellation of membership.

In addition, the agreement terms "NO refunds", "NO cancellations", "NOT sold on a trial basis" are in violation of The CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT, ONTARIO 2002, Part 2  #7

As "Direct Buy is committed to making sure each member satisfied", and per Fesperman "If that means that I need to refund their entire membership, I'm happy to do it." I request that is matter be settled immediately by rescinding the contract and refunding the full amount.

Please provide confirmation in writing that you have rescinded the contract and have requested American Express to reverse the charges.

I finally request that you respond in writing within 5 days, to prevent further action.

    Gum-Shoe Trudy-
Way to go. Exposing DB's management! Ha-ha. We know you're on here and you cannot STOP us for doing what is right. We will get our money back and you will LOSE. You can lurk all you want and try to blow us off course, however, we know and will not be swayed. Keep up the fight everyone & thanks, Trudy for uncovering more of DB's awful ways & tactics.

    HI JAMES

Don't let them away with this criminal nonsense!!!!!!!!!!!

YOUR LETTER IS GREAT, BUT I SUGGEST A FEW CHANGES TO BE MORE SPECIFIC,
you are right, they would use this against you ..."...did not use your services..."
    ----------------------------------------

instead of "3 day time limit" I would change to:
"3 day cooling-off period, as guaranteed by Directbuy's own corporate policy."
I have found several references to prove this policy.

MAY 2007,    AN article by The Boston Channel
Bart... V.P. ..., from DB Headquarters in Indiana
HE stated that "Regarding... within 3 days of joining."
    (dON'T add, members outside...)
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

MARCH 27, 2009-Video Investigation by CBC MARKETPLACE-THE PRICE CUT PROMISE
DB OWNER & PRES., Barrie, ON., Christine De Marsh
She stated that DB Corp. was in the process of printing new
                  contracts, inc. the 3 day...
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
    IN addition, the agreement....'NO REFUNDS...
IS a violation OF DB'S OWN CORP. POLICY,
as well as a violation of The C.P.A.  ...  undue pressure...
& PART 2- #7-Contract cannot waive my rights
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Keep the end the same, just add this)

"I will not accept phone calls, or e-mails"
