We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

    Thank you Tom,  I had the same experiences that others had and it wasn't properly presented to me either.  I borrowed the money and have not seen anything I could not buy somewhere else, due to shipping the price goes up from high anyway.  I truly believe it is a farce.  I wish I hadn't borrowed the mone to do this.  i have resented doing it since I was high pressured to do it.  I will NEVER do anything like this again.  
    If I can join a class action or whatever, I will.

    I join direct buy. And as a builder of custom homes I bought one item on the whole house   There prices are easily beaten. It's the biggest scam I have ever seen. Just one example. Granite counter tops they quoted around $8000 dollars. I got the kitchen and 3 baths for around $5000.  The order time takes to long on anything you buy. Get items much cheaper and faster at local stores.

    My husband and I signed up about might be a year this month.  I was told that they charge shipping fees and taxes on the items.  I asked how much are the shipping cost and was told its done by weight but its not really expensive.  That was a lie the first thing we ordered was almost the cost of the items in shipping to them so we decided not to spend more money having them ship it to us.  Then I orded a bedroom set in may 2011 I still havent gotten all the pieces to the set.  I was told yesterday that they got the last piece but it was damaged and it will be another couple of weeks.  Its been 6 months I paid in full for this item and 6 months later I still dont have it.  I want a refund and I want this contract ended.  This is not the first time I orderd a mattress and was quoted 2 weeks and it actully took 2 months to get.  They never tell me an arrival date until I have paid for it and then its a month to get it in but really 6 months will pass and you wont have it.  They dont return phone calls, Im tempted to put my story on the front page of the newspaper.

    ALWAYS quote their u.p.c. code, model, brand...as specific as possible...
    ask for their TAXES BROKEN DOWN INTO THEIR CATEGORIES (since they have hidden taxes that they have consistently FORGOTTEN TO MENTION
    ...that's their dirty trick!!!!
    they only give you a "base" price  SO THEIR PRICE "SOUNDS" CHEAPER OR SAME

        Do the same for your retail prices,
    add   'NO SHIPPING'  NO HANDLING FEES... THEN ADD  % OF TAXES
    to show how disgusting  their prices are

    ***refer to the laws that they are breaking
    PROMISE OF CHEAPER PRICES, THAT DO NOT EXIST

    I sent a registered letter to Directbuy and they have agreed to cancel my contract. However they will not refund my money apparently money paid to Beta Finance is non refundable.  Could you please assist me with how I should reply?  Thank you in advance.

    I live in Vancouver, BC and yes, I did send evidence of cheaper prices in the original registered letter.

    We became victims on 10/08/2008 and to this day we have not been able to get nothing from DB we sign in Miami Florida and the showroom here has been closed for over a year,they said to use the webside and it is so complicated and ridiculous,is just unfair that this people are still scamming people,basically everything everybody is saying is what happen to us please help,i had make complaints to the BBB,FTAand Fl attorney General with still no results.we saw all the complaints too late.

    My husband and I joined early last year and did buy a few items. One of the windows we bought keeps coming "apart", and is tricky to use. Earlier
    this year db closed the warehouse in our city, Spokane,WA. Now the closest warehouse is the Tri-Cities; and our user name and password no longer are acepted online. We have been u nable to find a phone number with a real agent to talk to. We are no longer able to buy anything and hate paying the monthly fees since they closed here. Is there any way we can stop paying and even get the money back since they closed year? Would you please respond to my email - caweed51@comcast.net

    my wife and i went to a direct buy meeting today and felt that the member ship was too high and was feeling pressured to join, after reading about some of the complants posted here i feel we did the right thing, we walked out.

    within 3 days of joining?
    If you sent the ltr and info within 3 business days after sighing up you have the legal right for a cancellation.  after that it's pretty much up to the franchise owner because it's clearly written in the agreement/ contract that you Do have 3 days to bow out.  Then it's a battle... Small claims crt, local media (good luck)  then wait for the class action suits - we're still waiting.  meantime, spread the word that their membership fees are outrageous..... not worth it for us low to middle income class...

    Hey we also went through the DB at Columbia. I'm filling out something with the Attorney General. Have you tried cancelling your membership yet. One of the issue that struck me was they made my wife and I feel welcome and loved but after we left we were nobodys to them.

    My husband and was promised a trip to Vegas. We signed up at a fair. We went to the seminar on November 13th and signed the contract. The minute we left that building something hit me in the pit of my stomach. My husband thought this was going to be such a money saver and I went along with it. I got home and googled DB and found this site. I instantly got sick and showed him all of these complaints from various sites online. I read that contract from front to back and saw that we basically signed over our money with no promised from anything they said. Our contract had nothing about the 3 days to cancel. We are in Louisiana and some sites i read said that was a 3 day cooling off period but when I went to our attorney general's website I found out that Louisiana does not have it. I still figured i would just try to get out of the contract. I sent them a certified letter as well as Versa Finance stating we wanted to rescind the contract. Last night we went there in person. The salesmen was pissed but we got out of the contract because of the corporate policy. He gave us all of our original paperwork and basically told us to never come back. LOL. I video taped our entire conversation just in case they try to do something because i don't trust those people. We made sure to go there when potential victims would be there because they don't want you to get angry in front the potential victims.
