We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

    ANOTHER SUCCESS STORY?????????
    HI Unfair
Please tell us how you got "the result you wanted" by "talking"
I have never ever heard of anyone who got their money back by just talking?
VICTIMS DESPERATELY NEED TO KNOW WHAT STEPS TO FOLLOW
It seems that you might just want to argue about details & it seems that you want us to beg you for the details
if you skim through you will find talkers, still waiting & waiting for a return call.... for months & years ever

    HI SAM
THE Attorney General won't do anything unless you show proof in writing
of the date you joined & that you tried to cancel in writing within the 3 day cooling-off period that the contract IS supposed to specify
***IF your contract does not inc. the 3 days, then you can argue IN WRITING ONLY directly to db, that you have an invalid contract
ACC. to CBC MARKETPLACE-THE PRICE CUT PROMISE VIDEO
THE CORP. was printing new contracts guaranteeing the cooling-off,
    as of March 2009
*** IF you did not get your password/and or your access to their prices within the 3 days, then you can say that the contract is biased in favour of db because they did not allow you to compares prices, in order to make a fair decision to cancel

\TEXAS DECEPTIVE TRADE PRACTICES & CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT
protects vs. high pressure tactics to join
excess exaggerated savings that do not exist.(show proof of cheaper prices)
you can find other violations also
    good luck

I filled out the form for a free pass three weeks ago.  That same day I received a call because "They had a GREAT opportunity for my husband & I" I asked the man to call me back the next day.  I missed the call but no message was left.  Now three - four times a day after 4:00 I get missed calls from the same number.  They have NEVER left a message so I blocked them but I can still see that they have called.  I even tried to call them back only to get a recording saying they can't take my call.  I just want them to STOP CALLING ME.  We are not interested because we have heard bad things about them.

I recently got a membership through DB of Lancaster Pennsylvania.
This was March 15 when i signed up. NEVER WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A 30 DAY FREE TRIAL, the financing was all internal NO CREDIT CHECK
I have contacted that store as well as the corporate Headquarters of DB,
I have gotten nowhere, i was treated like i was a dog ( not to mention i am in the military and they know that) when i contacted them to get out of the membership only after leaving 3 messages on there “General Managers” phone, getting a call 2 weeks later of course this was out of the 3 day cancellation period.
I was told by “Nick the manager ” that they would contact there legal department about me wanting to cancel my membership. What HR department does that.
Personally i am now stuck with a 4500.00 membership that even if i wanted to use it i cannot because they have not sent me any information including the Membership ID’s to gain access to the showroom.
If anyone else has had this issue with the DB of LANCASTER Please feel free to contact me.
I am wanting to file a suit and will be contacting JAG for advice

    Dear Trudy:
My wife and I recently went to an open house this past Tuesday (April 27th) night in Buffalo, NY.  We were railroaded into a membership that night against my better judgement because we .  No cooling off period was mentioned.  We were told if we didn't sign up that night, membership would be $1000.00 more.

Based on the advice on this site, we sent a certified letter indicating that we wanted to cancel our membership (on Thursday April 29th), and get the 1/4 of our membership fee we paid with my credit card back. with the wording below:

    Dear DirectBuy:

Please immediately cancel our membership with your organization.  We have not and do not want any of the benefits associated with it.

Per Section 349 of NYS General Business Law, the claims made regarding membership were misrepresented.  The information we were given indicated that we would save money on electronics.  A price of $1600.00 was quoted for a 46” 1080P television currently advertised by Best Buy at a Price of $989.99.  Further, your representative indicated that this television would cost upwards of $2300 retail.

We further request a refund of the $1,348.50 fee charged to our credit card.  Please remove this charge from our credit card immediately.  Please acknowledge this cancellation in writing to us within ten (10) business days.

    Best Regards,

    Brian (address deleted for privacy)

We went in to see them tonight (Friday, April 30th).  The owner sat down with us and said he could cancel my membership, but not with the above letter because the accusation I made in it had to be escalated to corporate.  He gave us three options.

One, send the existing letter to his corporate legal team.  Two, send him a new letter requesting cancellation without mentioning my misgivings about his sales techniques.  Three, send him the letter, but come in and sit down with him to prove that he could save us the money he says that he can.

He showed us a copy of a letter that he says we would receive in response in order to get a refund.  The letter doesn't say that you will necessarily get a full refund, and says it will take at least thirty (30) days to process after you fill out some paperwork.

My wife is still of the opinion we should give it a try and look at what they can "save" us.  I have repeatedly tried to explain to her that any organization that conducts its affairs in this manner is probably not trustworthy.

I feel like he may be delaying to make it more difficult for us to get a refund.  Should I challenge the charge on my credit card?  Any advice on how to proceed?

    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

give them NO opportunity to try to convince you to remain a member, if you have a legal right to cancel within 'X' number of days they are no doubt trying to get you to go beyond the time period to cancel. get out get out get out

    TRUDY
    Hi Brian
I am so disgusted but not surprised  by the response
they have deliberately stalled you & gone so far as to look right  through you, as if you don't exist
they have refused to acknowledge you, as you are sitting right in front of the low life scumbag!!!!& the loser tells you to go home & write a new letter...there are not enough "clean" & "dirty" words that I have, to describe him.......all he had to do, eas to write something up acknowledging the cancellation of the contract, & have you sign it,
but he used further intimidation instead...where by, I was even confused as to how to handle this one, it's just a bit tougher,

***First, call your c.c. co., & request a refund based on the db fraud,
tell them that you informed db in writing ( they might want a copy)
you should tell your c.c. co. that you have just become aware of the

NEW LAW SUIT ON BEHALF OF ALL U.S. RESIDENTS, FROM 2003 UP,
just happens to be in New York
    WWW.MILBERG.COM
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
***Send another letter, I suggest Registered mail,
...you informed db in writing on ________& in person on______, within the 3 day cooling-off period,
& db refused to acknowledge the cancellation request,
Repeat your request & state that you were given confusing & unclear options instead OF processing the request,
you are within your rights, to cancel during the allotted time,
& you were not obligated to even give a reason to them,
due to the fact that you gave a reason, your request was defiantly denied,
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any questions or concerns, please ask or let me know before you respond to them again, this case makes me so angry, I may have to read it again later,
to make sure that I got everything,
Let me know... do not give up because you have done everything right, within the cooling-off..
    Don't let this one go!!!!!!!
