Simmons Mattress Company Refuses to Honor 10 Year Warrant After Only 2 Years
My mom had back surgery and bought a new mattress thinking that it would be better for her back than my parent's 10 year old mattress. So they purchased a Simmons pillow top from Mattress Firm. The mattress had a 10 year warranty and Mattress firm offers an additional 5 year warranty. After not even two years the mattress has already began to sag, leaving two large body impressions in the bed at all times (including when no one is in the bed).  My parents felt that there was nothing to worry about seeing as how there is 15 years warranty all together from the manufacture and the distributor.
My mom contacted Mattress Firm and they sent out an inspector to examine the mattress.  When all was said and done the results from the mattress evaluation concluded that the mattress was still in satisfactory condition and that there was no problem with the product and that it would NOT be replaced.
I personally spoke with the representative at Mattress firm and she informed me that the mattress is supposed to conform to the body.  This is just fine but the problem is that my parents are in fact conforming to the mattress.  If the mattress is supposed to conform to the body then shouldn’t it return to the original shape when the person(s) get out of the bed?  Also Simmons tried to say that the warranty was voided due to conditions concerning the frame.  The inspector said that there were “slats” inserted under the mattress and that these inserts did however void the warranty.
I decided to do some investigating of my own and I went into a Mattress Firm pretending to buy a mattress.  It’s funny what a sales person will tell you when they are trying to sell you a mattress but it all seemed to change when you try to get them to honor the warranty of their product.  I specified that I had an antique bed and that I explained the type of mattress frame that I currently owned.  I told him that I had “slats” inserted under my current mattress and for some reason my mattress had still began to sag and that is why I was in search of a new mattress.  The salesmen named Tim told me that it is ALWAYS recommended to insert slats under the mattress b/c they provide additional support.  He reiterated this to me several times.  Then he handed me a booklet with Mattress Firms selling factors.  It listed 5 or so factors convincing me to buy from Mattress Firm; the last one being that they offer an additional 5 year warranty on top of the manufactures 10 year warranty.
This is such a sad situation that my mom bought a new mattress thinking that it would help her back after surgery and it is actually making her back worse.  I sleep on their old mattress that is now over 10 years old and there isn’t a thing wrong with it.  Price is suppose to be a reflection of quality and my parents were fooled in to thinking that they were paying more for a quality product when in fact this is NOT the case.  Their old, cheap mattress is holding up much better than the new Simmons mattress that they purchased which is not damaged and the manufactures will not honor their warranty.

My mom has been forced to sleep on the couch every night because this new mattress that is not even 2 years old is not sagging and hurts her back because during the night she continues to roll into the permanent body impressions that are now molded into the pillow top.  Not that this should make a difference but my mother is only 5’ 7”and weights 145 lbs.  She is not over weight by any means, or by no means that should cause the damage to this mattress.  They rotate it regularly and have performed all necessary actions to maintain the life of the mattress and these actions still have not made a difference.
I need assistance in getting either Mattress firm or Simmons to honor their warranty.  If the mattress looks like this after not even 2 years, then what on earth is it going to look like in 10 years?  The purpose of having a mattress is to sleep on it but apparently sleeping on it may void the warranty too so what is the point of offering any kind of warranty if the warranty isn’t going to stand in the end?

I, too, bought a Simmons pillow top.  It was March 3, 2007 and have the exact same problems with the indentations.  I am just now googling and trying to find what I can do.  Thusfar, I have only found horror stories of nothing being covered by the warranty.  My boss and a co-worker had also purchased pillow tops, resulting in the same, uncomfortable indentations.

As you said, it shouldn't matter however, I'm also 5'7" and 135 lbs.

come on peoople wake up....u sleep there everyday its gonna leave some indentation...just like a pair of shoes!!!!!I have sold mattresses for the last seventeen years and have found that u dont have to spend thousands of dollars to get a good bed!You want a pillow top then your gonna have impressions...my advice to my customer is to buy a non pillow top and put  your own pillow top on the bed that way when it gets holes in it throw it away and your mattress is still good nad you havent spent 1500 dollars!!!!Common sense!

it would be fine for the bed to have an impression not a freaking DITCH!!!!! And good thing people listen to those sales people and the lines of crap they feed you to get you to buy a pilowtop bed, because they sure would have a lot of beds they didn't want either. Sure there are moments in your life you don't use common sense either 'God bless you.'

Commmon sense? And why would you say its the pillow top? I also bought the simmons beauty rest pillow top and 3 monthes later I was in terrible pain because of the dent. I am 5'7" and weigh 149lbs, I sleep almostt on my stomach with my one leg bent and this thing sagged so bad my back was killing me. It is not the pillow top, its the springs. Anyone with "common sense" would know that. And just for the record, my cousin weighs close to 350lbs and has had the same mattress for 15 yrs and if u lay across it u can't tell which side is hers. Beds where made much better then. As for mine, I raised holy hell and got my money back.

I am having all the same problems that everyone is writing about! I bought my mattress not quite two years ago.  The first year it seemed pretty comfortable, then I started waking up all the time throughout the night - and realized that I was sleeping in what felt like a hammock - if I tried to move to one of the sides, it was like trying to roll up an incline and once I got there, I had to hold on so I wouldn't roll back into the sagging middle. I also rotated the mattress frequently. I too am not overweight - I weight 125 lbs. and am 5'5" tall. I have been having all kinds of trouble sleeping and waking up with back pain. I had a months worth of not being about to sleep - waking up all night long and not being able to find a comfortable spot. Finally, I decided to move to my other bedroom where I have a hide-a-bed. Mind you, these mattress are very basic.  Well, I finally was able to sleep un-interruped and woke up refreshed and with no backache! Now I know the Beautyrest Pillow Top is the source of all my problems.

What to do next?  I can't afford to throw this mattress in the dump - $1,129 wasted? However, my health is at risk because of this product. After reading everyone's entry, I feel that we have all been swindled. II company is not standing behind their product.  One person said that they "got mad" and finally got a refund. Please tell us how you did that?

yep. I have been complaining about pain from day 1. Had to get therapy could barely get out of new bed. Found out furniture store delivered broken box springs after ripping fabric off due to curiosity.
currently sleeping  on bed on the floor. it has stopped the caving in on mattress.

To you i say you don't have to be rude. Other sales people are not you. They told me my pillow top would stop my morning stiffness. Guess what...It made it worse. Just because You tell YOUR customers to buy a regular mattress and use a pad does not mean anyone esle will. this mattress is the absolute worse thing I have ever wasted money on.

Sofaking, you are so arrogant.  Like you said, you found this out after 17 years of selling mattresses and then you say it's common sense!  Where was your common sense 17 years ago.  Consumers trust the company they are buying from to sell them products that are safe, reliable and worth every cent they pay for.....they don't expect to get ripped off.

If you have sold mattress to many people then you are the only person that to date has said to buy a cheap mattress and put your own pillow on top of it.   I don't believe that you should settle for indented mattresses when that is not what you have purchased.  This is a misrepresentation of a product if I knew that I was going to have indentation I wouldn't have purchased it.  Common sense!!

Come on mattress seller and mattress dealers. How about being up front and honest about the fact that pillow top mattresses will compress and leave low spots with in 2 years! How about telling the customer, "Ok if you're considering buying a pillow top then here's whats going to happen in the next year or two, maybe you should consider buying a regular matress and adding your own top." Can't think of a single mattress place I've ever gone to that a sales person would be willing to impart that truth. You'll say it here but how many of those things did you sell and never told the customer what you said here?  AND!!! If you're selling me something that has a 10 year warrenty on it then I expect it to hold up IN EVERY WAY during that 10 years. If the pillow top mattress is such a huge failure why are companies still producing them and why are "honest" sales people and store owners stocking them?

If these places or manufacturers have warranties please tell me warrant..absolutely nothing. Just a way to get more money. I have a simmons beautyrest shakespeare pillow top, with a 2.5inch sink hole in it. I've gone to my TV an paper media about this, and they said they would love to do a story about this..let's see if simmons and warranties my mattress! I'm sure they will. It's to bad this is what it takes. There is no such thing as warranties in mattresses. Mabye things will change

Actually I have had this experience w Ortho mattress twice and they have been really good about replacing the mattress. We bought a non pillow top that started to sag a year after we bought it and they replaced it and their replacement just started to sag after 2 years and they are replacing it. Not to say its great quality for sure but at least they honor their warranty and I bet some of these other places would do the same if you pushed them.

Tempurpedic warranties are great. I had a warranty claim and no questions were asked after I provided them proof with the pics. They apologized and said occasionally the foam might degrade, and even though it doesn't happen often, it still does. The mattress was a few years old and they didn't make that same molder anymore. They said o could pick whatever model I wanted at the same purchase value of what I paid on my receipt AND if I wanted to upgrade to a higher tier I had the option of that too with cash difference. (Or to a lower tier but without compensation) .

That's pretty darn good customer service.
