Simmons Mattress Company Refuses to Honor 10 Year Warrant After Only 2 Years
My mom had back surgery and bought a new mattress thinking that it would be better for her back than my parent's 10 year old mattress. So they purchased a Simmons pillow top from Mattress Firm. The mattress had a 10 year warranty and Mattress firm offers an additional 5 year warranty. After not even two years the mattress has already began to sag, leaving two large body impressions in the bed at all times (including when no one is in the bed).  My parents felt that there was nothing to worry about seeing as how there is 15 years warranty all together from the manufacture and the distributor.
My mom contacted Mattress Firm and they sent out an inspector to examine the mattress.  When all was said and done the results from the mattress evaluation concluded that the mattress was still in satisfactory condition and that there was no problem with the product and that it would NOT be replaced.
I personally spoke with the representative at Mattress firm and she informed me that the mattress is supposed to conform to the body.  This is just fine but the problem is that my parents are in fact conforming to the mattress.  If the mattress is supposed to conform to the body then shouldn’t it return to the original shape when the person(s) get out of the bed?  Also Simmons tried to say that the warranty was voided due to conditions concerning the frame.  The inspector said that there were “slats” inserted under the mattress and that these inserts did however void the warranty.
I decided to do some investigating of my own and I went into a Mattress Firm pretending to buy a mattress.  It’s funny what a sales person will tell you when they are trying to sell you a mattress but it all seemed to change when you try to get them to honor the warranty of their product.  I specified that I had an antique bed and that I explained the type of mattress frame that I currently owned.  I told him that I had “slats” inserted under my current mattress and for some reason my mattress had still began to sag and that is why I was in search of a new mattress.  The salesmen named Tim told me that it is ALWAYS recommended to insert slats under the mattress b/c they provide additional support.  He reiterated this to me several times.  Then he handed me a booklet with Mattress Firms selling factors.  It listed 5 or so factors convincing me to buy from Mattress Firm; the last one being that they offer an additional 5 year warranty on top of the manufactures 10 year warranty.
This is such a sad situation that my mom bought a new mattress thinking that it would help her back after surgery and it is actually making her back worse.  I sleep on their old mattress that is now over 10 years old and there isn’t a thing wrong with it.  Price is suppose to be a reflection of quality and my parents were fooled in to thinking that they were paying more for a quality product when in fact this is NOT the case.  Their old, cheap mattress is holding up much better than the new Simmons mattress that they purchased which is not damaged and the manufactures will not honor their warranty.

My mom has been forced to sleep on the couch every night because this new mattress that is not even 2 years old is not sagging and hurts her back because during the night she continues to roll into the permanent body impressions that are now molded into the pillow top.  Not that this should make a difference but my mother is only 5’ 7”and weights 145 lbs.  She is not over weight by any means, or by no means that should cause the damage to this mattress.  They rotate it regularly and have performed all necessary actions to maintain the life of the mattress and these actions still have not made a difference.
I need assistance in getting either Mattress firm or Simmons to honor their warranty.  If the mattress looks like this after not even 2 years, then what on earth is it going to look like in 10 years?  The purpose of having a mattress is to sleep on it but apparently sleeping on it may void the warranty too so what is the point of offering any kind of warranty if the warranty isn’t going to stand in the end?

not everyone has seventeen years of mattress selling experiance, i bought a beutyrest and had the same exact problem. it's not the mattress or simmons, it's the [***] salesperson who doesn't give this info to buying customers. yes, I figured I should have bought a non pillow top and added a pillow top that could be replaced after spending 1k. I wonder if I can cut out the pillow top and replace it?

I was thinking the same thing about placing our own topper on the mattress.  Has anyone tried it yet?  Has anyone re-stuffed their pillow top?

I would like to inform everyone that in 2006 the CSPA made it a federal law that all bedding must meet fire code protection. Any coil mattress that is being produced will have certain materials such as Thermal slick Fiber, and High Loft Foam placed on the top of the bed. These materials are not the most durable and they have very low density levels. This will create a hump in the middle of a king size bed and a bowl in a queen size bed. My advice is to buy a solid foam bed with materials such as Talalay or Dunlop latex. Omalon foam is another great product. People also need to understand that high warranties do not guarantee a quality product it simply is a marketing tool. But if you really want to get mad at the mattress producer, you can but should really mad at the government. But you will thank them if you ever need a fire retardant mattress.

          Folks,

It's impossible that so many people have sagging issues with so many mattresses due to spring failure. It is the foam that sets. I just bought a Sterns and Foster pillow top expecting the same issue.  When it happens, I will carefully cut out the pillow top and replace it to see if it comes back like new. This is an experiment. Did you ever notice that the warranty covers 1.5" sagging and above. That's the height of the pillow top foam. They know it wont go to zero. What mattress companies need to do is what Sterns and Foster did with their original mattresses. It had a zipper where you could see the high grade cotton and felt inside. We need zippers on the pillow top. That's to their advantage because they would have a steady recurring maintenance cost for their beds. Nobody can deny the comfort of a brand new pillow top. Hey wait, maybe I should patent this!

I also got 'scammed' with a mattress.  Saggy bed, back ache every morning - finally decided to get a new one.  Looked around, went on line - after all the warnings, advice, etc.,  ended up with an Englander foam mattress - one of the 'experts' said foam was the best & wouldn't break down like others..$1800. Most mattresses say that 1 to 1-1/2 inch indentation within the first year or so is normal because the fluffy stuff packs down - makes sense.  Well, I didn't know until after we got it & was changing the sheets that on the tag it says a 3 inch depression can be expected in the first year.  WOW - after only 3 months there were major indentations where we lay. We've had it about 5 months and my back aches are worse than before. Don't fall for this one.

what steps have you taken with Englander to get satisfaction?  I also have a Englander and have been told the depressions are within the normal for a mattress and there is nothing they can do.

These people wouldn't have complaints if it wasn't for the misleading advertisements, and deceptive comments by mattress sales people.  Those of us that don't have the experience that you do rely on the people at places like Mattress Firm, and Simmons to sell what they advertise.  They're your best friend before we buy a mattress, and the minute we walk out the door, our purchase is now our problem; regardless of any "warranty."  If you think these actions are the purchasing parties' fault, maybe it's you that should "wake up."

I bought a Chandelle Simmons mattress that is suppose to be the same as the Sheraton Dream Bed 2 years ago. It has a 2 1/4 inch indentation. The warranty guarantees that anything over 1 1/4 is covered. The warranty card also shows a picture of a wood frame bed WITH SLATS. When I bought the mattress, I specifically made sure my platform would be covered because I saw these complaints ahead of time. The warranty even states" "Examples of proper support for queen..." and a picture of various bed frames, one with 5 hardwood slats! Further, the 'law label' on the mattress says this mattress is intended to be used without a foundation".  An inspector came out and the bed was in perfect condition, except he said that Simmons changed their warranty and no longer accepts slats. Same deal.

A warranty is a legal contract. A company cannot legally change the warranty after you've bought the item. That's like buying a warranty for a plasma tv and then Sony saying "sorry, kidding, we don't cover plasma".  Check your warranty cards folks. Check the "law tag" on the mattress - they call that a law tag for a reason. Ask for the legal language from Simmons that shows the change in warranty coverage. Have your company go to bat for you. Simmons needs to back up their claims, bottom line. If this isn't corrected, I wouldn't be surprised at some point soon to see a class action lawsuit.

I bought a pillow top crystal air mattress and we have only had the bed for 1 and a half years and it seems that the pillow top has just dissapered. I have never seen anything like this. I just called the store that I purchased the mattress at and the manager of another dept took my name and number and she is going to pass it on to the store manager for him to call me back. I have an idention in my mattress that you would not believe. I weigh 130 and my husband 150. I have tried to rotate the mattress and that has not worked. If they want take this mattress back and give me another one I am going to take the mattress over to the store and sit outside with it to show people what the store has sold me and will not take back. I paid 1,299.00 for the mattress and box spring. I purchase the mattress from JC Penney in Atlanta and you talk about putting a store on blast that is just what I will do and I shall make sure that I let everyone that comes in that store just how I was treated. I have had 4 back surgeries and I be damn if I will settle for this mattress. You all should not stop until you get a new mattress, I won't.

We have had a simmons pillowtop mattress for a year and half.  We had an inspector come out 3 weeks ago
because of a large sag in the mattress.  Just heard back, they will replace the box springs!  THey are admitting a problem with the box springs yet won't replace the mattress.  The mattress is already ruined due to faulty box spring??  anyone else get this response from simmons?

Same problem as everyone else.  Simmons mattress bought 3 years ago has a 1 1/2 inch indent and after a night of sleeping the indent goes to 2 1/2 inches.  My back and hips are killing me and if I had wanted to sleep in a dent I would have kept my 25 year old mattress.  I have a metal frame bed and slats that are part of the metal frame.  If the Mattress King does not exchange this mattress I will never buy from them nor a Simmons again and I will tell all my friends on Facebook etc about the pillow top problems.  I also was promised by the sales guy that it would remain firm but conform a bit to the body.  Since I purchased this mattress, the guy at Mattress King tells me they no longer carry that mattress and they suggest the new one from Simmons that has a foam core and springs.  Surprise, Surprise.
I think Simmons should be dogged on facebook and twitter--then see what happens.

That is not true because....we still have a Queen Size Simmons from 17 yrs ago that is a pillow top upstairs that we slept on until 2 yrs ago that do not have impressions in it. We bought a new Simmons King Size 2 yrs ago & put in our downstairs bedroom & in 2 yrs it is showing depressions on both sides of mattress & our backs hurt every morning, our bedstead is all metal as is the base. Sounds like Simmons has let a lot of their customers down lately.....new management???, unmotivated workers???, whatever it is, it'll all come out in the wash eventually. So put that in your pipe & smoke it!

P.S. Both bathrooms are down stairs.....we're both afraid of falling during the night if we sleep upstairs in our only GOOD Simmons!

I just sent in my warranty request form today - I purchased the expensive Simmons Black label - Rosalyn - paid $2940 for mattress + an additional $450 for the boxsprings just two years ago from Mattress Firm.  I thought I was buying one of the best mattresses on the market (the sales person never said one word about pillow tops having issues of indention - according to him, it was a premier choice, and frankly I was replacing a previous Sealy pillow top that was almost 17 years old that had zero indentions after 17 years as I gave it to my son for his first apartment - he loves it). I am not an idiot (to the smart mattress salesman) -- I am a CIO at a major medical center and I have plenty of experience with pillow top mattresses (we also own another Sealy pillow top that my other son has slept on for the past 6 years and it doesn't have the first indention in it).  My almost $3000 mattress now has almost what appears to be a large hole (about 2 1/2 - 3 inches) in it (I guess you call that an indention!) right in the middle of the location of where my back hits - funny i don't have anything sticking out of my body that would cause an odd hole indention - if it's an indention from my little body, why isn't it shaped like my body?  If I move over to the middle of the bed, I roll back to the hole.  I wake up every morning with a terrible backache and neck pain.  After sending them $25 just to get someone to come out, they had better address my concern.
