Simmons Mattress Company Refuses to Honor 10 Year Warrant After Only 2 Years
My mom had back surgery and bought a new mattress thinking that it would be better for her back than my parent's 10 year old mattress. So they purchased a Simmons pillow top from Mattress Firm. The mattress had a 10 year warranty and Mattress firm offers an additional 5 year warranty. After not even two years the mattress has already began to sag, leaving two large body impressions in the bed at all times (including when no one is in the bed).  My parents felt that there was nothing to worry about seeing as how there is 15 years warranty all together from the manufacture and the distributor.
My mom contacted Mattress Firm and they sent out an inspector to examine the mattress.  When all was said and done the results from the mattress evaluation concluded that the mattress was still in satisfactory condition and that there was no problem with the product and that it would NOT be replaced.
I personally spoke with the representative at Mattress firm and she informed me that the mattress is supposed to conform to the body.  This is just fine but the problem is that my parents are in fact conforming to the mattress.  If the mattress is supposed to conform to the body then shouldn’t it return to the original shape when the person(s) get out of the bed?  Also Simmons tried to say that the warranty was voided due to conditions concerning the frame.  The inspector said that there were “slats” inserted under the mattress and that these inserts did however void the warranty.
I decided to do some investigating of my own and I went into a Mattress Firm pretending to buy a mattress.  It’s funny what a sales person will tell you when they are trying to sell you a mattress but it all seemed to change when you try to get them to honor the warranty of their product.  I specified that I had an antique bed and that I explained the type of mattress frame that I currently owned.  I told him that I had “slats” inserted under my current mattress and for some reason my mattress had still began to sag and that is why I was in search of a new mattress.  The salesmen named Tim told me that it is ALWAYS recommended to insert slats under the mattress b/c they provide additional support.  He reiterated this to me several times.  Then he handed me a booklet with Mattress Firms selling factors.  It listed 5 or so factors convincing me to buy from Mattress Firm; the last one being that they offer an additional 5 year warranty on top of the manufactures 10 year warranty.
This is such a sad situation that my mom bought a new mattress thinking that it would help her back after surgery and it is actually making her back worse.  I sleep on their old mattress that is now over 10 years old and there isn’t a thing wrong with it.  Price is suppose to be a reflection of quality and my parents were fooled in to thinking that they were paying more for a quality product when in fact this is NOT the case.  Their old, cheap mattress is holding up much better than the new Simmons mattress that they purchased which is not damaged and the manufactures will not honor their warranty.

My mom has been forced to sleep on the couch every night because this new mattress that is not even 2 years old is not sagging and hurts her back because during the night she continues to roll into the permanent body impressions that are now molded into the pillow top.  Not that this should make a difference but my mother is only 5’ 7”and weights 145 lbs.  She is not over weight by any means, or by no means that should cause the damage to this mattress.  They rotate it regularly and have performed all necessary actions to maintain the life of the mattress and these actions still have not made a difference.
I need assistance in getting either Mattress firm or Simmons to honor their warranty.  If the mattress looks like this after not even 2 years, then what on earth is it going to look like in 10 years?  The purpose of having a mattress is to sleep on it but apparently sleeping on it may void the warranty too so what is the point of offering any kind of warranty if the warranty isn’t going to stand in the end?

6 months and I was sagging into the Simmons pillow top.  $1,500.  what a waste of money.  Simmons "expert" came out and looked at it after 6 months and said it was fine.... NOT EVEN A YEAR!

    To hell with pillow top
I just bought a pillow top last week and already I have an indentation on my side.  This is bull because my last mattress I bought did this and the salesman told me that this should not happen to good mattresses. so I bought the mattress he recommended.  Its only been 8 days and im not happy.  I will be taking this junk back.  Im not saying he lied, I just think I got a bad mattress.

We bought a beautyrest black in 2009 from sleep country USA.   The salesman went on and on about the high quality foams used in this mattress, the higher gauge steel used in the springs and the bamboo cover.   I have to admit, the bed felt great on the showroom floor, so we spent $2500 for it.   the mattress started rutting after 6 months, and we ended up junking it after toughing it out for 18 months.   We bought a very firm non pillow top Englander mattress to replace it, only cost $600, then went to Ikea and bought a topper.    It's lasted us two years and so far no rutting.   My advice, is to avoid any pillow top mattress, especially Simmons.   Don't waste your money.

Well are just starting with the warranty issues..The company went out of business..we filed a warranty
with simmos.  We have pictures of a 3 to 4 inch dip on both sides of the mattress. They sent someone out and behold they said it was 1/2 in..on one side and 3/4 inch on the other..also something with the frame...the frame is what all the pictures look like is supposed to be under the box springs..it also states that not having slats will cause the mattress to sag in the middle.???? I'm not done fighting this..I have a 10 year warranty and I will fight for 10 years..small claims court..anything and everything I have to do..we can't not sleep on this mattress..getting back aches and kidney pain,

You don't have any center support on your frame? No vertical leg supports and steel slats? And you wonder why your bed is sagging? LOL!  Good Lord people use some common sense.

I purchased a Simmons Classic non-pillow top inner-spring mattress with matching box spring a few months ago.  I bought this mattress because, in Mattress Giant's showroom, it seemed to be supportive. I made it very clear to the sales person that I have lower and middle back problems and must have a supportive mattress.  The mattress seemed okay for the first two weeks,  then began to sag leaving very deep body impressions.. The mattress is no longer supportive and the sagging more pronounced. I wake up with a nagging back ache. I have never had this sort of problem with a mattress in my entire life. Reading through Simmon's Warrantee, it's clear that it's not worth the paper it's printed on. It basically guarantees nothing. Fortunately, I financed the mattress for twelve months having made two payment to Wells Fargo Financial. Kinda hate to have a smudge on my credit report and have never before had anything repossessed but don't want to pay $945.00 for a product I cannot use. They can come get it.  I expect the usual run-around from the dealer when I make a complaint..

All these new style mattress suck! I have tried them all (Simmons, Serta, Stearns & Foster). You are paying for the name. Next bed I get will be an old-fashioned spring supported bed from a small biz store if they still exist!! I am tired of waking up with back and neck pains because of the weak support. Cant even cuddle with the wife if I wanted to because it will sag so bad! Jeeeeez!

I just bought a Simmons Shakespeare Lucetta Plush Super Pillow top king mattress and I am really confused.  I told the salesguy at the store that I cant sleep on firm beds, so he recommended the Lucetta.  I sat on the bed and was so comfortable with the soft pillow top, so I decided to purchase it.  Well I have had it for two nights and its so stiff and firm.   The tag on the side of the bed says its plush and super pillow top?!?!?  Do i need to wait for it to get soft?  Did they sell me the wrong bed?  I called Mattress Giant and the salesguy told me to give it a few weeks for it to be soft.  Does Simmons just not care? Could use some advice....

I should be plenty soft by now. The research I've done on it indicates it will start out firm but will soften up quite a bit.

We bought our son a Simmons Beautyrest Pillow Top mattress just 2 years ago and there is a "sink hole" in the middle of it now!  And our son has been away at college for over 9 months of those two years.  The place we bought it from came out and took pictures and measured this "sink hole" and today they said they would not replace it.  UGH!  We spent a lot of money on what we thought was a good mattress ... my son broke a vertebrae in his back playing football, so needed something supportive.  This mattress is the pits and is now in our garage.  The so-called warranty is a joke!!  I will never buy Simmons again!  BUYER BEWARE!!!!!

Dear Mr. *(&&(*^^ I will never buy a simmons again !  this is what they told me after 2 years of use .

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to assist you.  Simmons offers a limited warranty and strives to be as fair as possible when evaluating warranty claims.  In assessing your claim, we found no structural failure in either the mattress or box springs/foundation.

In addition, the compaction of the panels in this style of bedding is to be expected. The compression does not affect the product's durability.  As with other beds of this type, the thicker and more luxurious the filling materials, the more susceptible they are to compaction.  Please note that this should not be considered a defect.  The mattress is contouring to the shape of your body.

As a result of these findings, we are unable to offer a replacement because the product is performing normally.  We appreciate you giving us the opportunity to assist you.

    Sincerely,
    Simmons Corporate Warranty Department

I bought a pillow top mattress from forty winks along with a whole new bedroom suite just under 2yrs ago. $2500 later (just for the mattress) plus the other $2500 on the bed frame and bedside tables

I was ensured by the sales guy that this mattress would be the ideal product for my back injury... And let me tell you it was for the first 12 months! They also recommend that slat beds will uphold the mattress longer as it provides that extra support! well what a load of ****! It has basically sunk like a black hole! I've been waking up with an even worse then I did before, back ache and my hips are so painful of A morning I can barely stand up! I even asked the manager of the store if he'd had complaints about these mattresses over time and he assured me that it wasn't anything to worry about as the warranty will cover any faults!
My parents bought a pillow top mattress as well after me bragging how awesome my bed was at first. Their new fabulous mattress didn't even last 2months before it started giving them back pain!
Luckily they kicked up enough of stink they got their money back and ended up with a latex mattress for half the price and hasn't given them any trouble!
As for me I'm about to get the department of fair trading involved! This is [***]... We pay good money for quality so we expect it! As for that [***] up the top saying its common sense.. I would love to be a fly on the wall in your store coz I guarentee you don't tell your customers that! You got some nerve mate let me tell you!
And this mattress war is far from over! Con artists!

Bought a Simmons Beauty Rest Lucetta Plush Firm   Felt great in the Store. After being delivered I found one side was comfortable but the other side was not.   There must be some manufacturing defect.   I know they won't give me my money back. There is no integrity left in this world.  You pay top dollar and still get screwed.   Thanks for nothing Simmons

I bought a Simmons PillowTop Aug 2011. It was comfortable for a few months then the sag or the "dip" started to develop. In Jan 2012, I filed a claim, a technician came out to inspect the bed, then a week later the mattress was replaced. The new mattress was comfortable for a few months then the sag/dip started to develop once again. I couldn't believe it. I filed another claim but was denied bc it was concluded that the "indentations" were "normal. I filed another claim but was denied bc it was "too soon". At least 3 months should pass before filing another complaint. I couldn't believe it. I had to suffer a few weeks more! The sag/dip was getting deeper and worse, my back ached ALL OVER, I would wake up in excruciating pain. The dip is more than two inches deep, can be seen even when not in bed, seen with blankets and comforters over it, that's how bad and deep it is. It's hard to move in bed bc somehow, someway, you're drawn back into the "dip", its almost like quicksand, it's hard to get out of that one spot. Some nights I would sleep on the couch. It's been a nightmare. I hope they replace it again, not with the same type, though... Im hoping for store credit so i can get a different mattress. I seriously feel this particular make is defective.

My daughter bought a Simmons bed 7 months ago. Within less than 6 months the pillow top shifted terribly. She and her husband only weigh a total of 265 lbs together, so neither of them are large people. One of them has a medical condition that causes night sweats. Due to this condition there is some discoloration of the white material.
My daughter called Simmons warranty department to discuss replacement of her matress under the 10 yr warranty. She did tell them of the color issue and was told her matress is no longer covered by the warranty due to the discoloration. If is had discolored the matress, then there was enough moisture to get into the matress thus voiding her warranty. She was also told she could not steam clean it to try and return it to the original white color, because the moisture would compromise the matress also voiding the warranty.
I am having a difficult time grasping the fact that a large company like Simmons will not replace an $800 matress due to some discoloration, when it is only 7 months old and the pillow top has completely shifted out of place.
This was a large purchase for a young couple and it saddens me that they trusted the Simmons name, believing in them and their product to have such a ridiculous thing happen after such a short time. I will say, lesson learned. I will share this story to anyone who will listen and will NEVER purchase a Simmons product. Hopefully the store she purchased it from will come through and help her out.

Wow all of this sounds like ours . 2 years old and we are seeing the same holes in our mattress and it's killing my back.  It's not just simmons thats garbage , Sealy is also garbage as this current mattress replaced a 4 year old Sealy that had the same issue. They are all making garbage which is even worse now that you cannot flip them over because they are to  cheap to make a double sided mattress anymore.  I guess the next one will be a Sleep Number bed and we will see if that holds up any better.  The rest are garbage.

Yeah, no help.  Their warranty is a sham.  Have they EVER replaced a mattress?  I would love to hear from anyone that has gotten a mattress replaced under simmons warranty.  if anyone has, it would be great to hear how on earth they didit?  I'll bet that 95% of their warranty claims are denied... And there are tons of people complaining about the sagging-assed crappy 2 THOUSAND DOLLAR pillow top simmons mattress they bought...

I cant believe there has been no class action lawsuit for this yet.

I just started the process and I wondered the same thing.  Is it even possible to collect on the warranty, and if so, will they simply replace it with another saggy mattress?
