I rented a car from Europcar in April while in France. I was not satisfied with the service offered and the additional charges I received afterwards.

First, I had to wait more than an hour to get my car which I rented and paid for well in advance. I was on a tight schedule and that delay unacceptable.

Second, When I returned home, I received a bill from Europcar where they charged me for two extra days, and some damage charge. I tried to investigate what damage was done to the car that I needed to pay for but got nowhere.

In the U.S. we can "dispute" a CC charge. I too was charged an additional fee after the rental for dropoff at CDG. This was not supposed to be. So I merely contacted my CC company - Bank of America - and disputed the charge. I am happy to say that it was removed and I have not paid it nor do I intend to.

I also received an additional charge for "traffic violations". I never received any violations, moving or parking. I believe this is just another way Europcar tries to cheat customers out of their money.

The bogus "traffic violation" charge seems to be a common way Europcar tries to get more money out of their customers.  I was also billed 25 euros for an administrative fee for a traffic violation that my wife supposedly committed when we rented from the CDG airport in Paris in August this year.  No notification whatsoever from Europcar, the 25 euro ($35.95 USD) just suddenly appeared on my credit card statement.

I only learned what the fee was for when I emailed them and asked.  They said I would be receiving the actual citation in the mail that I'd still have to pay from the French authorities.  After two months of waiting and no citation I disputed the charge with my CC company.  I have an idea that they know about Europcar's questionable billing and they said they'd dispute the charge on my behalf and give me credit for it with no further action required by me.

I want to know how Europcar continues to get away with these fraudulent business practices.

Europcar quoted me £90.00 for fully comprehensive insurance package at the check in desk, i asked if this included VAT and was told yes it was the FULL COST. I then looked at my Credit card statement a week later, they had took £121.90. I contacted them about this and was told i signed for it. I looked at my invoice and there it was, £121.90. Please do not take NO NOTICE of the service representative and the prices they give you. Check and double check your invoice. Europcar did not want to know about my complaint and then ignored all my communication. In the past 10 years i have spend roughly £6000 with this company and they would not refund the £21.90 just to keep a valued customer happy. I now use enterprise. STAY AWAY FROM EUROPCAR THIEVING B******S.

I have just used Europcar and would also say I would never use them again. They add all sorts of additional charges we weren't told about beforehand and because it invovled car seats for my two young sons I have no choice at the time. I will be chasing them through their UK headoffice though. I couldn't believe the appalling service I received from them

There is not an office at St Pancras, just a pick up point.  Europcar wait at the time you have specified for 15 minutes and if you are not there they leave.  No where can I find any details informing me of this and as such the car we were to pick up at 10 is still no near to being sorted at 1.30pm.  I am sitting waiting for my partner to return so we can finally go on holiday with this first day completely wasted and both of us in a mood!  No one is answering the phones and they are not a company I shall be dealing with again.  One frustration after another for the past 3 and half hours and we still have no car.

    Do not use Europcar.

I agree with these comments. Europcar seems to have bad record. I booked a car with them only for me to get there to pick up the car, I was told I needed to prove who I was by presenting my bank statement, despite I had other documents in my name which proved who I was and my address. I was unable to get the car and even though I asked the attendant to give me ten mins to nip home and get the documents, she refused to wait. Now I have been charged £100 for a car I did not even use and when I asked for a refund I was told I had to wait 14 days. Thats the kind of company they are quick to take your money but slow to refund for a service they have not used.

We hired a car for South Africa through Carhire 3000 and this turned out to be with Europcar. All was well, but when we got home, there was an unauthourised  debit on our credit card. I contacted Carhire 3000 and received a list of 'the cahrges'. They had charged for filling up with fuel, when we had already done so, and also charged for a valet of the car.
Considering 3 people had been travelling for 2 weeks, the inside was immaculate. Sure enough, in the small print, they can charge for a clean/valet at their discretion. Carhire 3000 got the valet charge dismissed, but said I would have to pay for fuel. I see this as theft and now think od Europcar as a company of thieves.
DO NOT USE EUROPCAR ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD OR EVEN ON THE MOON!

We didn't actually hire a car through Europcar -but after the rude and unhelpful staff at Europcar Torino I would certainly never recommend them to anyone! We had booked a car through Avis Torino only to find that they had relocated without a forwarding address. Europcar was located about 50 metres from the address we had and I thought they might be able to give us a forwarding address. No such luck. The staff said they wouldn't assist us as Avis is their competitor. It took a very kind taxi driver who located Avis for us by searching Google on his phone.I thought if this is how Europcar operate there is no way I would ever do business with them.

It is such a pity that I did not take the time to read all the comment prior to renting a van during the rugby world cup in New Zeeland. Back in South Africa my cerdit card was debited with R 20000. After various phone calls I was directed to their claims dept in Australia. They told me that there was EXTENSIVE DAMAGE to the van. A claim number was given to me. After more than a month my query has now been transferred to their customer care dept as " there was not a 3rd party involved in the claim". It is a big scam. When we dropped the van at Auckland airport there was nothing wrong with the van.

Their slogan is something like "we care for the earth", but their customer care is THE WORST that I have experienced. Do yourself a favour and don't use Europcar

I rented the car in Spain at the end of September 2011.  Three weeks later I got an Europcar invoice from Milano, Italy. (I was not in Italy at that time) I complained and asked for detail.  Never got any further information what I asked.  Then I got a speeding thicket from Melbourne two days later. (Never been in Australia yet)  I made an investigation request to to Police and now waiting for report.  I am just wondering who is liking customers detail?
