Turned Over To a Collection Agency for 46.00

I am DirecTV customer. My account became past due for the amount of 46.51. That's only one month's service. They suspended my service. Then a few days later I receive a letter from a Collection Agency 'Collectech Systems' trying to collect for the amount of 46.51. Then yesterday, I receive a call from what is identified on my caller ID as DirecTV. Well it's not DTV, it's this pinhead from Collectech Systems. I called DTV and spoke to them and asked them why they placed this with a 3rd party collection agency for 46.51. Man, I could have been in the hospital or something. Anyway, they said that DTVs company policy is when an account has a pastdue balance of $15.00 or more then they turn it over to an outside collection agency and it gets reported to the credit bureaus as placed for collections. I told them to come and get their equipment of my property! Pretty expensive price to pay: Losing a customer for 46 bucks. No wonder why so many of my neighbors have "DISH Network" (who I already have a install date with)and not "DirecTV". So beware people before you decide to get hooked into a 3 year commitment with these snakes.

Wow Scott, thanks for embodying the "respect" we have come to expect from Direct Tv representatives.  Predatory collection is just one example in the long line of unconscionable practices Direct Tv employs.  Turning people over to collections may be your "job", but if Direct Tv continues to alienate people and provide terrible service, you will not have a job.  Bottom line - you should be more respectful to your customers, judging from the spelling and grammar in your message, your career options are probably extremely limited.  We would not want you to be poor/broke, evidently that's not an "excuss" for late payments.

DirecTv does more than report you for mere dollars that are overdue, they sell settled debts and OLD accounts to miscellaneous credit collectors for their own profit.  (By the way - any amount under $100 cannot be reported to your credit report so tell them where to go and laugh while doing it.)

I had a DirecTv account 12 years ago (yes, that's a 12) which was taken out of my name and placed into my ex-husbands solely after my divorce in 1998.  He thereafter remarried and retained residence at the address on the account until he passed away in 2008.  His wife still lives at the address.  I Quit Claim all interest in the property and related accounts and utilities associated with the property by the divorce agreement and Quit Claim Deed with DirecTv receiving copies of such documents at the time of divorce and moved across the state.

Three years later they hunted me down over his $200 and some odd change balance attempting to collect from me although he and his wife were still at the address on the account.  Their collection agent, the Law Office of Mitchell N. Kay in New York, was sent copies of those documents and a letter of dispute once again.

Now, 12 years later, I, once again, am receiving collection notices from another one of DirecTv's collection agents, ERSolutions for the same balance I have no interest in, addressed to my former married name, 12 years later, long after the statue of limitations has expired.  I explained this to the dummy on the phone and she stated, "Well... we might not be able to report it to your credit report but we can still try to collect it."  Wrong sister, you contact me again and I'll turn you over to my former employer, the State Attorney General ;)

Dear Scott West with DirecTv, there are far more reasons than people simply not paying their bills for past due balances.  Often it is the incompetence of the business an their employees that cause unnecessary headaches to consumers. I do truly hope you haven't lost your job in this economic climate by now.  Because let me be the first to tell you as a professional, none of us is safe.

    Get this...
I have switched to DISH TV last year, because they are cheaper, and more professional, and after a fallout with direct tv because I was being forced to pay a bill in which I had no service almost 2 weeks of that month.
That being said, I owe $200.
In an effort to get this balance off my credit report, I am trying to do the right thing and settle this balance.
The phone # of credit agency on my report has no record. Direct tv themselves, can't tell me what collection agency holds that note.
"Write a letter" they tell me, to their collections dept in Colorado.
That sucks! Ask me again why I HATE DIRECT TV!!.
How many of you think I'll write a letter for a lousy 200 bucks?
It will be negative on my credit report whether or not I pay that balance, until 2015 anyway.
So much for trying to do the right thing!

Dear SCOTT WEST--no one blogs about money DIRECTV steals from former customers.  To this date, over one year after closing down my DIRECTV account and Fed-Exing back the $100 program box (which was not easy because your Trained Telephone Clown made me spell "Meadowlands" 9 times and still never sent Fed-Ex to pick up the box)--when that dust settled, DIRECTV owed me $18.25--which they still refused to pay me, stating that "your account has been turned over to the Fraud Section."

I am pleased to inform you that I will be reporting the $18.25 as a THEFT OF MONEY on my 2010 IRS Tax Return, because DIRECTV indeed committed THEFT!

Directv owes me money! I had a $500 balance automatically withdrawn from my bank account. I have not had Directv since last year! I called and they told me the money withdrawn was a "System error" They told me it would be put back within 14 days. 30 days later the money was still not put back. I ended up calling them a total of 5 times and each time they told me the same story and gave me deadlines as to when it would be refunded by check form this time. Last CSR rep told me no later then Saturday the 15th of January. Well it is the 19th today and they sent me a statement stating I have a credit WITH NO CHECK!! It has now been 3 months since they took the money. I called today and they told me they will put it into Escalation que. Why wasn't this done before? It will once again take up to 12 days. Heard that 5 times now. I asked to talk to someone in finance and they told me there is no number there. They contact finance by letter?! If I owed them money not only would I be in collection with hundreds of dollars of fees!! I told them this and they should pay me for my troubles! Of course they don't care. If anyone is thinking about Directv DO NOT DO IT!! The reason we left is horrible customer service and all the hidden fees that kept showing up on our bill. I have now contacted an attorney and I am gonna get money for my trouble!! By the way, if you mention an attorney when speaking to them they will disconnect the call.

    know my rights
Watch statutes of limitations.  Many of these firms have their accounts audited by in-house auditors who advise that they short billed customers.  So the firm turns these short billed accounts over to a collection agency to imtimidate "little old ladies" into paying $50 - $100 "delinquent.  However, many of those customers have never received the proper collections i.e. phone calls, letters,  written bills.  Many of them have not used these company's services for years and we are talking 10 - 15 years etc.  If 10% of the "short billed customers" pay these so called delinquent bills, the company makes money.  Many of these are also beyond the statutes of limitations.  One customer also had a credit report and a FICO score over 700 - yet according to Direct TV she was a "deadbeat".  Why - because they messed up their billings and tryed to collect over 6 years past the end of the account?  Watch these types of companies and stand up for your rights.

I called Directv and ask them to disconnect the service, but was told that because I had a balance they couldn't disconnect.  When I called back after getting a bill they sent the box to mail their receiver and controls back.  Before I could get than done they submitted a bill to my bank for $181.00.  I called Chase and told them not to honor it because I did not authorize the payment, I was told by Chase that Directv told them that because I pay on line through the bank they can do that.  I call Directv and went off.  The overdrew my account and racked up additional charges and I'm now in the hole with the bank for $307.00.  This cannot be legal for them to just submit charges you do not authorized.  I told them that they are going to get sued for submitting unauthorized bills.  Has this happened to anyone.

I would never recommend direct tv to anyone. I had $220 pulled out of my bank without my authoization and have ha to place 7 phone calls in a week to them regarding this. First I was told by two different people that it would be in my bank account a little over a week ago. When it wasn't I called back again and was told to give it a couple more days. Three days later and still haven't received any money from them. So I called back yet agin only to spend 2 hours on the phone wig 8 different people and finally I just cancelled. I ended up fighting with a supervisor who then told me the following Monday it would be in my bank. Of course Monday rolls around and no money yet again. I called only to have a rude employee tell me it would be 30 days because I cancelled. I told him I would not have cancelled had they given me my money back. Finally I asked for a supervisor and he told me it wouldn't do me any good because they will just tell me the same thing.

Finally after 30 minutes on hold and a screaming baby in my arms I get through to a supervisor and they disconnect me. I called back and got a lady who swears it didn't go through because of this or that and it will be in within 48 hours. They have 12 more hours to put it in my bank and I will be calling at the 48 hour mark if it isn't there. They tried telling me they won't give me my money until I send them the boxes. Why on earth would I give you your boxes back when the whole reason I cancelled is because you stole from me. On top of that you still owe me $220 so why would I give you anything.

I absolutely despise direct tv and would love to see them go belly up. I will continue to tell anyone who will listen just how horrible direct tv is. By the way those who still have them be careful of them trying to lock you in a contract after yours expires. I had them for 3 1/2 years and only signed a 2 year contract. They are still trying to tell me that I have a contract with them. I'm very close to calling a lawyer to get this settled.

In response to your comment, a bill for whch I had been told had been zeroed on not one, not two, but more than three occasions was sent to CBE.  The fact of the matter is, which customer service agreed through their records of my phone calls with customer service, I did not own Directv.  I have never had service at this address, which they confirmed, yet they still sent a balance due to CBE.  This site is not about not paying your bill, but it is about being treated fairly.  So on behalf of all those who have been treated unfairly by Directv, stop hiding behind your authority and do a job that is honorable to your profession!!

DirecTv is the worst company I have ever done business with. I had their service several years ago and cancelled early because it didn't work when it rained or snowed and often didn't work when the weather was clear. DirecTv charged me $76 for early termination of the contract. If the service actually worked to a satisfactory level I would not have cancelled but I see no reason to pay early termination for an unsatisfactory product. My credit card company removed the charge from my card and DirecTv has been selling the debt to numerous collection agency's and screwing with my credit report for years.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH DirecTv!!!

I had directv service a few years ago I cancelled service after my 2 year contract due to the horrible service, I sent the equipment back, and a year later I get a call from some collection co. I explained my situation so he did a 3 way with directv, c/s rep said I didn't turn in both the boxes she then said I owed for a movie that they did not charge me for and they hadn't billed me because they was not aware until they took the card out of the dvr, remind you the card was in the dvr they claim was never received, once I brought that to her attention she put us on hold to get her supervisor, and we became disconnected not only once but a total of 7 times, months went by and, the same thing occurred all over, now it's showing on my credit report and I have no idea who to contact...
