I found a charge of $29.95 on my checking account. Originally it was listed as "Health Plan". I would not have signed up for that as I have Medicare and private health insurance therefor I do not need or want anything from this company.

You are not an idiot! It's known fraud policy to make you guilty - you will not fight!
I got the same problem from MVQ*ValueDiscountClub. I called them to stop my strange "membership", but they took additional $24.95 for "the rest of month" and Capital One Visa didn't protect me!
I'm surprised that all our government can't cure this well known practice.
I think, 20 years in jail would be good for them.

MVQ Has been charging my AMEX company card since 2004 $35.95, I thought it was an airline insurance policy. I called them and they could not explain what they did for that money and had a hard time finding my membership. Who are these people, they should be charged with fraud, I am just as angry with myself but when you are running a business you assume there is a reason for the charge and do not have the time to check it out. I lost thousands through this scam, they told me I joined through AOL, I never joined ???

Their promises are designed to lull you into inattention so they can slip through more fraudulent charges, and to string you along until they run out the 60 day FRB Reg. E or FCBA dispute periods.

It's a charge cramming racket, with only the appearance of any "product" to deflect prosecution.

Under pressure from Senate Commerce Committee hearings, VISA International recently implemented a change to their merchant agreements that required that the pop-up offers used in these scams had to require the consumer to separately reenter their card number.  It is now a violation of the merchant contract for a merchant to just pass VISA card information to some other company.

Problem is, it appears they already got your card number prior to the change, and set you up for autobilling.

Still, file fraud ocmplaints with FTC, your state Attorney General, and with your bank.  File your fraud complaints IN WRITING, and insist that your bank also send you a fraud affidavit to fill out and return.  In addition, file a complaint with the office of Sen. Jay Rockefeller. http://rockefeller.senate.gov/contact/email.cfm

NorthStyle has numerous complaints in connection with "discount membership" charge cramming.  Just Google them.
