DO NOT PAY THESE PEOPLE!!! I took a job with them in Kansas and in order to keep my job we had to use practices that were bordering on illegal and I believe that some of it was illegal. I worked for a debt collection agency that followed the Fair Debt Collection Protection Act and telling people that they are paralegals investigators and using aliases is illegal and deceptive and against fdcpa. I refused to use their practices and when I didn't collect 10,000.00 dollars worth of debt in my first month I was fired. I believe that they are buying bad debt. It's resale debt, debt been collected, and I believe some medical that is medicare and medicade fraud. I am trying to figure out a way to stop this.

At a loss for words (Well, not really)
I would say it is quite clear that those seeking additional information on this company are going to stumble upon this thread and subsequently see the feeble attempts by the management at UMA to redirect the problem on disgruntled employees.

What I still find humorous is picturing Jordan Akins wearing his cheap suits with a belt and suspenders.  He would compare himself to Donald Trump, refer to himself as "president" and often suggest its soooo difficult being a CEO.

Here is the bottom line: UMA is being operated by an ambitious young man, Jordan, who may not have intended to be unethical but due to his inability to effectively coordinate basic business functions he is struggling to stay afloat and this has therefore created a vacuum sucking up everything good that was ever visible within the small, insignificant yet ambitious old debt buying LLC.

Now I will check this site in a couple of weeks when I have nothing better to do. By that I mean that I have depleted all options of entertainment and will type the three ugly words UMA into my search engine one last time so I may view the hideous remarks made by Jordan or one of his deputies replying to this post with the intent to discredit everything I said by saying something intellectually inadequate for a person "operating a business".

My name is Jordan Akins and I am the President of United Management Associates. Typically I do not respond to internet posts of this nature. However,  after reading what has been written, I feel a responsibility to respond.

For those of you who have ever owned and operated a small business before, I applaud you! Being a business owner, CEO or President isn't an easy task! I refuse to believe, as the previous poster (At a loss for words (Well, not really) has implied, that I am the first person to ever admit that my position can be challenging and even difficult at certain times.

A lot of responsibility is placed on the shoulders of individuals in these types of positions. It isn't easy in this day and age to run a business, yet alone expand one.

You have everything from the modern day work ethic of those you count on most to the economic times and rising expenses working against your goal at all times.

I do not always have the right answers, but I am not certainly always wrong. To  make the statement that I am incapable of effectively coordinating basic business functions, I disagree. After all, you are no longer with my company, and given your input on this forum, that was an effective decision.  :)

P.S. I'm not Donald Trump and I don't want to be, nor have I ever compared myself to him. There is CLEARLY no comparison between him and I.

On another note, you should be thankful my suits are cheap, as you likely haven't worked for a "President" who sacrificed as much as I did to ensure you had a position at our small but growing company. It doesn't always work out when we hire someone new. I wish it did. If it didn't, it truly isn't anything personal, it was a business decision and I sincerely wish you the best of luck.

I have nothing foul to say about anybody who has ever worked for me in the past and I wish people like you would quit complaining about people like me who did you no harm by wearing cheap suits, admitting that I had a difficult and challenging job at times and by continuing to grow my business by trial and error.

So please tell everyone why your company UMA is no longer around. We would all like to hear that. But we do know you started a podcast with a girl named Amber. You tell people they can buy, sell and trade dept on there free. Very funny how the only debts are on there is posted by your cleaning company Meadowlark Commercial Maintenance where Jayden is the CEO.  I can't wait to see how long your cleaning company lasts. You are hidding from something Jordan, but itwill catch up with you.

Yes a lot of responsibility is placed upon your shoulders.  How somebody handles the weight that this entails defines a leader.  You however rely on deception and intimidation.

-You changed commission systems based on what you could afford.
-You promised certain wages but never followed up on your word.
-You intentionally misled new hires on their commission potential by using Jargon that implied they would receive 20% of what they collect without explaining it to them.  Those that asked specific questions were deemed trouble makers and were more often than not humiliated.
-you would sit with select new hires and dial consumers on speakerphone in a very unprofessional manner (trying to impress the female new hires)?
      - You offered incentives that always got removed (20,000 dollar car, 500$ bonuses)
      - Should I even bother about the FDCPA? Nope....
      - You fired people then dropped their last paychecks to minimum wage.
      - You changed schedules almost every week and would forget to inform employees. So people would drive 30+ minutes to find out they don't work.
      - I witnessed gross employee misconduct that resulted in harassment. Unfortunately employees were unable to speak to HR (joke) because you advised everyone in a meeting not to.
      - How about intimidating employees by cornering them, claiming they have sensitive consumer information then calling the cops on them because they quit because they felt threatened by you and realized you were never going to be an honest man?
      - how about the employee working another shift without clocking in to receive an hourly wage because you had the poor woman convinced she will receive a phenomenal commission check? "If anybody sees ***** she's not here" said Jordan.

I have 20x more stuff I could add to this list as well as specific names of those who were directly involved.

Trial and error you say?  Well, when you are causing such a wake of destruction on people's lives I wonder how you can justify your actions? You mentioned how you have sacrificed. Did you mean sacrificing your morality?

I do not think you are an evil person. People can see you are an ambitious/motivated person and you know what??? They followed you regardless. Whether they followed out of hope or desperation (or both) I don't know.

What I hope you recognize through this trial and error process. You don't need to mislead people to get them to do what you want them to. Try being honest. Try sticking to your word. Try making your policies transparent. Try removing your right hands who are in fact the ones responsible for some of the above mentioned issues.  Don't stick to your mindset that the employee are always wrong. Try to identify what you are doing wrong. You are the leader.

      Lead.

United Management Associates was collecting on debts for the Law offices of Daniel slane. WE had to say that we were investigators for the law offices of Daniel slane and that there is a potential lawsuit pending against them. We were encouraged to use misrepresentation which is a FDCPA violation.  I have copies to some of the handed out material that instructed us to misrepresent our character, legal status and intentions.

UMA is located in Wichita, Kansas.  Why would I make this stuff up? Why would a dozen more ex employees say the exact same thing and be willing to back up my claims?

Then lets ask why would Jordan look at this website, create fake aliases to try and discredit me and play it off that I am just a disgruntled ex employee? Well, it's because he is worried that he pissed off enough people who are now willing to speak up.

Yes they say they merged together or something. The office in Ohio claims to have an attorney that works there and for them. Its all lies. They have no grounds to file a law suit on anyone. I don't even think there is a real attorney there. Look up collection laws is your state.

Those comments are coming from Jordan, and Jayden. You know there is no other employees that work there that like it. They are only there because they need a job. I wonder how the management team is doing. I wouldn't be surprised if they are the only ones still working there. And the Dan Slane thing is a joke. If Steve Sly was an attorney then he would know that the stuff Jordan and Jayden want people to say is a clear violation of the FDCPA.

At a loss for words (well, not really) replies to GOODLUCK UMA
I think you mean Siobhan and Jayden.  Siobhan is the type of person to say really nasty immature things while Jayden is a quiet observer who is likely e one posting things like,"I have worked there for sometime and have never had a problem with them".  You are right though, the two of them, especially Siobhan, has no other options for employment that would provide them with the same amount of power. Siobhan enjoys threatening people and is rather proud of her ability to do so effectively.  She would tell people to sell their plasma or get student loans to pay her before she pursues legal action.

Agreed, Dan slane thing was a Joke and I knew it was destined to fail. That's why things got so shady, Jordan was holding onto his dream with a death grip and didn't care what he had to do to get there.  Steve Slyh represents all that is wrong with business ethics. He encouraged and also manipulated Jordan to use the "going grey" approach. I remember listening to an audio tape of him advising us to use the approach that nut knapper uses. Which was threaten threaten threaten, misrepresent, threaten some more and claim you are an investigator working for the attorneys.  What attorneys? Who would sue for $314 dollars across state lines?  I heard employees say that it would cost about 1200 dollars in legal fees if the consumer didn't pay them.

Violations of the FDCPA were inevitable.  You are also well informed. Jordan doesn't realize how many people he has pissed off by screwing people over.

Sounds like the "rent-a-shingle" version of the more common "process server"/"arbitration firm" shakedowns.

Often seems to have a Buffalo connection, either in some aspect of the people behind it, or as a source for brokered OOS portfolios.

Corona Scam portfolios traced back to Buffalo.
Recently shutdown Orlando area shakedowns' portfolios traced back to Buffalo.
Similar one in Henderson NV was run by ex-Buffalo managers.

      Any Buffalo connection?
What "defect" in the "debt" is motive for the violations?

At a loss for words (well, not really) replies to Seen it before..
There was a supposed buffalo office that was mentioned but I believe it was associated with the law offices of Daniel slane. UMA was just used as a disposable tool to make 3rd party collections for The law offices of Daniel slane (primarily collected on cash central payday loans).

The demographics that are being intimidated by these people are unfortunately poor, uneducated and do not know any better and they are taken advantage of by the threat of legal prosecution.

You sound more informed than I am in the background network of these ridiculous places. I am surprised they are not being fully investigated and shut down by the FTC. (Referring to 3rd party collections).  Steve Slyh was the contact for the Law Office of Daniel Slane and he has had a history with making short term business deals and moving on.  Perhaps he does this before a an actual investigation unfolds...I don't know.

What was motive  for the debt collector to use illegal intimidation?
Were the debts assigned or bought?

Were Cash Central payday loans made in compliance with the state laws of the borrowers?
What state was Cash Central actually located in?
Or were they nominally located out of the country?
Did they engage in loan "cramming"?
