The woman I spoke to could barely speak English, so I asked to speak to her supervisor. He went through the same speak about how I had been chosen to receive a grant for $9000 and I didn't have to pay it back. The money was sitting in the federal reserve and it was mine free. They just needed either my bank account information or my credit card information. I asked him a lot of questions and used the time to look up the phone number they called me from. It was a cell phone in the Washington DC area - 202-210-0054. He then tried to have me give him my credit card number and when I said I was comfortable with that, he told me I was wasting his time. So I hung up on them. Why can't the government stop this!

Yup - same story just happened to me with the number 202-000-1111 and 202-738-4662.    I'm really surprised to see so many people actually believed this.   The guy on the phone could hardly speak English to me and he works in DC for the government?  Come on.

I just received the same call from a woman that could not speak fluently with the same scam.  $9000 grant from federal government. phone# 202-210-0054 - all I needed to do is give them my bank acct info or credit card so they could load the money then I was to call another man with my verification/confirmation #.  They would not give me the phone # until I gave them my account information.  I said no and they directed me to a website to check them out. www.usgrants.com - this also asks for information about yourself but gives nothing about them.  This is not an official US Government site because it does not end with ".gov", also it is not a secure site because it does not have the "https".  They said would call back after I checked them out on line.  I am going to block their number.

I received the same call.  The number that was uses was 202 111 8822.  I was to call back this number and give them a special code.  The number was 202 738 1532.  The special code was HRD1004.  I called and was asked for my checking account.  Ha Ha!!  So I suggested he give the money to charity as I did not need it. He hung up!  I traced the first number and it is in Washington D C, but the second number was untraceable.  Please be careful.  The government does not hand out grants for no reason and one must apply for it.  I wish we could get these thieves arrested. I am so sorry for those who were unfortunate enough to fall for this.

I see by the dates of these messages that this scam has been going on for at least a year! Why don't these guys get shut down? The number I had to call was 253-216-8095. Yes they are all a bunch of shady foreigners that can hardly speak English scamming US citizens out of our money. And it sounded as though there were a lot of people talking in the background - quite a big scam operation probably making thousands of $ every day. When I heard about the western union and that I had fill out some kind of application to the Federal Reserve I told them that the government has all my information and if they are contacting me to tell me that I am eligible for a one time grant of $9000 they can send me a check in the mail. Otherwise forget it.

My call came from (213) 246-6756.  I was told that I qualified for a free $9,000 grant for being a good citizen.  Curiously, I looked it up online and found a lot of links warning about this scam.  I relayed that to "George, from the U.S. Government," and he immediately took offense that I was calling this a scam.  He demanded that I could not speak like that and asked "where is the proof?"  I told him that the burden of proof was on him to illustrate how it was not a scam.  I also stated that the U.S. government has my address and can mail me the check.  We got "disconnected" shortly after.  I'm looking forward to the "$9,000 check" when it arrives. :)

Rightly so another call from a Spanish lady at best claiming that I have randomly gotten selected for a $9000 for a federal grant and she was going to start explaining the process ..'and I think they might be doing this on a grand scale
Cause it looked like several people were talking in the background .. I told her I don't want the money and hung up reason : she couldn't even say my name correctly , the ringer : marked UNKNOWN by the iPhone .. And I am not even a U.S. citizen... Please don't be fooled by these calls you need to apply for a grant and the U.S government will never ask you to send them money via a local exchange now will they ask you to send your bank details over the phone

Be vigilant people and stay happy

just got the same b.s. call, the they used is #202-301-2642 &#202-683-9887 was the call back. I made the mistake of giving my bank info so now I'll have to change that, but I figured I would check it out after the call. Once they came up with the cash thing I knew it was a scam. Like they say nothings free.

My husband got the call... I suspect they have a way of targeting people. They told him because he was new to the U.S. And didn't have a criminal record and was working.

So we called back on a three way call and I asked for them to mail us a check. They got mad and hung up. We called back a few times. Once they recognized the number they wouldn't answer any more.

My heart goes out to anyone who fell for this. But if you file a complaint with FTC, Federal Trade Commission. They have a fund that may reimburse you.

    Good Luck and God Bless.

This is a scam, got the call today, made a mistake giving them my AMEX credit card information, then found this link. Now I have blocked their numbers and called AMEX for a replacement card. Tell them you want to do a good thing and donate the money to them, it will piss them off big time. Cheers!
