Digital Star unauthorized charge

Complaint

Country: United States
A preauthorization for $74.95 from Digital Star with a bad phone number (208-123-7377) showed up on my debit card account 1/29/12.  Called bank fraud department and had the account killed immediately.  They stopped the charge since it had not completed.  Do not know who Digital Star is or what the charge was for.  I use the card for online purchases mainly through Amazon.  No purchases in the last 30 dqays.  However, I placed orders in the last 60 days from a company called Turncraft (woodworking plans), Personal Creations, and Entirely Pets. I wonder what companies others have used recently.

Thanks for posting. i checked my bank statement today and couldn't identify the charge for $74.95 (plus US Exchange) made on 03/02/2012 so i plugged in Digital Star 44208123 and found this.  Called Mastercard and they are doing an investigation and reversing the charges.  i would have thought it was a purchase i forgot about if i hadn't seen this thread, so thank you.

This is unbelievable that this con artist has been doing this for God only knows how long now and from what I understand it has been reported to the authorities on several different occasions but yet it is still happening as I speak. Thank God I check my email all day long and the charge came through on my debit card for paypal but paypal says once the process has been initiated then there is no way for them to stop the charge from going through which in my honest opinion is completely absurd to say the least. Anyway I do admit that paypal is very good about getting the funds back to me promptly but on the other hand this is the second time in several months that my paypal debit card has been hacked. It seems like the security on this card is very poor either that or I am just one of the lucky ones. LOL Hope everyone here gets their issues worked out and I honestly hope to God that this piece of shhhiiittt gets whats coming to him big time.

Yup it got me too!  Not impressed to say the least!  On my credit card that I very seldom even use...basically to pay my virgin mobile phone each month and I bought plane tickets on WestJet back in the summer.  I'm in Canada.  I called my bank, CIBC, and now have to wait til they send me the paperwork to get it cleared ... but my card was cancelled...I couldn't use that card in store as my chip part didn't work, so definitely wasn't from an in-store event.  Oh the joys of tonight .... also noticed that after I paid my car loan off, ScotiaBank charges me an extra payment ... which I have to wait til next week to get that money back ... Yup tonight sucks!

I haven't ordered anything from Amazon for a long time - until last week. Just recieved a push notification from Chase that a charge for $149.99 had been posted to my account. Sounds like this has been going in for more than a week now. Sucks.

The same thing happened to me on the 10th of Feb. I called my bank, and they said it was a purchase of theatrical producers tickets in the UK. I hope they get this stopped soon!

Same  thing happened to me on 02/08 - however, I think it has something to do with Paypal and my bank tells me it will take weeks for me to get my money back. :(

Had  a charge of $76.99 (74.95 + US exchange rate) from Digital Star +44208123737 on my Visa. Called and had charge reversed and card cancelled.   I am a bit confused because I ordered a pillow online for a different amount from a company called ZAFU-ZAFU and initially input my Visa # but changed to Master Card before completing transaction.  The charge on my MasterCard went through as 'Paypal Zafu.Zafu.' Just wondering as others have mentioned paypal.

What can be done about this?  Why hasnt this been on the news?  Seems like a pretty big fraud happening here?

The banks have a mixed interest here, which is reflected in their typical dispute classification policies.

On the one hand, they don't want to lose money, and if a customer brings it to their attention, they have an obligation to send a dispute back through the system, until that time it isn't really their money on the line other than their employee time spent "investigating".  Their management systems are more designed to manage "cost centers", than to fuse disparate fraud information into a coherent picture.

You would think that their risk management departments would take a broader view, but recent history suggests otherwise.

If you want it in the news, which would force the "leak" to be plugged (to avoid embarrassment if nothing else), why don't you contact Bob Sullivan at msnbc's Red Tape Chronicles?

I just had this charge on my card 149.99 with the same DIGITAL STAR 442081 information associated.
I called my bank immediately to contest and they told me the only information they saw on it was a a "Theatrical production company" based in Great Britain.

Not sure what else can be done beyond that though finding you all on here actually makes me feel a little safer. Yeah it sucks but it looks like some major fraud that get sorted out just hope the headache from it isn't too bad.

I have mobile alerts for my checking account and I received a text @ 7:11pm about a debit mastercard withdrawl of $149.99. I promptly logged in to my online huntington account to see what happened. The culprit is Digital Star. It has not cleared yet but I just got off the phone with customer service and closed the card and ordered a new one. I'm going into a banking branch tomorrow and filling out the fraud papers but it may take 7 - 10 business days for my account to be credited. I think this issue needs to be addressed on the news and by the police. My husband says that the charges are multiples of $74.95.

Today Huntington let the charges go through and added the international fee in. I'm so outraged about this [***]!
