This number has been calling for a few days now. I called back and heard "you've missed a call from your bank or service provider". I hung up. The next time they called I answered. An auto-voice asked me to press 1 if I was the person they named, 2 if I was not. I pressed 2, and they continued asking for other personal information. They said it was Lloyds TSB Card Services.

I have now received (approximately) 8 calls from this number. Each time a voicemail has been left, meaning I have had to spend some of my money from my contract checking my phone. I am extremely dissatisfied by the expensive and time-consuming method used by Lloyds.

I have also had several calls from this number. I went into Llyods and they told me they do not use automated messages to contact customers, that the calls are fraudulent and to ignore them. I have also reported it to the Police and obtained an incident number in case of future problems. Hope this helps...

genuine or not - NO ONE should call you and ask you for security details.

Received a call today from ''natwest''. Hung up before giving details, if it was real then they would call you in person surely? If they call again i wont be answering.

I hate to spoil a good story, but I got a call from this number purporting to be from MBNA.  I didn't respond, but called MBNA to discover that they did indeed use this service and wished to validate the authenticity of a recently issued credit card cheque.

Seems they subcontract this validation to an outfit which seems to be used by other financial institutions.  I think this is a very poor way to go about it, particularly in view of the quite legitimate concerns that people have over scams, and the Bank's own exhortations to us never to reveal security information to callers.

    My 2 cents . . .

I have received approx 4 calls today & answered the last one & it was an automated response saying they were from EGG bank (who I do bank with).

Would definitely not give any details out to an automated system.

I've had around 8 calls in the last 24 hours to two different mobiles, both claiming to be Lloyds TSB looking for Susan Shepherd, whoever she is. Driving me mad.

I've also had two calls from this number in the last 45 minutes claiming to be from Lloyds TSB - when I pick up and speak, it's automated and asks me to press any number to continue.  This is on my home landline, which is registered with the anti nuisance calls thingy as well!

I just had a call from this number claiming to be from my cc company, Egg. The system wanted my dob at which point I put the phone down. From calling Egg afterwards apparently the call really was Egg - well actually a company called 1stAlert acting on behalf of Egg. They had seen an unusual transaction on my account this morning that had triggered an alert. The transaction was legit made by my wife.

It's very worrying that legit companies are making unsolicited calls in which they ask for personal details. It would be a lot better IMO if they simply told you to call the number given on the back of the credit card rather than asking for personal details.

I've been getting calls to my mobile and landline. Called RBS and EGG they know nothing about it.
I have not answered the calls yet, but did call the number back and there was a VM left.

It's not a BT number, but goes through Opal telecom.
I have emailed them to see if they can get the phone number cancelled and the 'company' that owns the number refused any further business with them.

I don't know if I'll get a reply, but if more people contacted them and mentioned that it's a problem it may get delt with.

Apparently BT doesn't have any record of this number being a problem, but then again it did take me a while for them to actually allow me to register it as a complaint.

    Scam?
I had several calls from this number today.  An automated message said it was Lloyds TSB and it also said my name.  I put down the phone, did 1471 and then rang the number and it said "your bank, financial organisation or utility company has tried to contact you and will ring back".  I also received the same call from another number (0845 603 1755).  I checked the Lloyds website and these do not appear to be genuine phone numbers...

This is not a legit company its a scam. Any bank would not use an automated service to contact you, someone from the call centre would phone you or contact you by letter if you had a serious problem with your account which I know I don't as I only checked my account the night before I received this nousence call.
It pis*es me off how these people get the details and is worrying how much info they have about us.
Can't believe they think people would type in thier personal details over a phone on an automated service. These fraudsters would try anything to try and scam money from someone.

I have also been getting a number of calls from this number again with automated voice message. I have spoken with my bank who know nothing about it, also with my service provider who are investigating as they are receiving a number of complaints. I was also advised to ring the police who then left me a message sugesting I ask my service provider to block the number which they are unable to do! Having now found this site, there are clearly a lot of other people experiencing the same call levels as myself from Opal Telecom but nobody seems able to prevent them, but more worying is who have they clearly purchased the telephone numbers from and who may they sell them onto!

Some updated information! O2 are my service provider who have been investigating for me and although the number was opporated by Opal Telecom it has now been sold or passed on to Telecom Direct who I beleive are part of Carphone Warehouse! I have rung Telecom Direct (01235 442300)who at first denied having anything to do with the number and then told me it is being used by a credit card company based in London to suposidly check fraudulant usage of credit cards i.e if you make a large credit card purchase they are ringing to check if it is genuine. I have requested my number be removed from their system so will see what happens in the next few days!
You may want to do the same!
