Unwanted calls from 08456306967
Complaint
Akkila
Country: United States
This number has been calling for a few days now. I called back and heard "you've missed a call from your bank or service provider". I hung up. The next time they called I answered. An auto-voice asked me to press 1 if I was the person they named, 2 if I was not. I pressed 2, and they continued asking for other personal information. They said it was Lloyds TSB Card Services.

If you do therefore get one of these automated messages - I would urge you to contact your bank asap - I left it a day before I rang and in that time the fraudsters tried to put through 4 transactions on my account.

Ive just had a lenthy discussion with my bank on the phone who can confirm that if any fraudulent activity was going on with your account you would contacted directly by a member of staff and no a prerecorded message.
There are people saying that these calls are real and are from 'First Alert'. TSB have again confirmed only a personal call would take place and they dont dish out recorded messages for this sort of thing. Although 'First Alert' IS a fraud warning system i fear the numbers calling are using this as a smoke screen to gain your personal information.
Once again, THIS IS FRAUD. If you recieve one of these calls just hang up the phone, and dont press any buttons. Do a 1471 and jot down the number who called you and call your bank and pass on the details to them.
NEVER TRUST AN AUTOMATED VOICE WHICH HAS CALLED YOU.
Looking at http://www.saynoto0870.com/numbersearch.php the number is related to EGG. There's a local number you can call to moan at them 01332 395919. Seems as if they are trying to contact someone regarding a suspicious transaction and have got the wrong number. Their "security team are looking into it and it should be resolved in 3-5 days". We'll see...
I also emailed my mobile provider (Carphone Warehouse) and without querying any further they promised to remove my number from future marketing! - (is this an admission?)
remember everyone can opt out of marketing calls through TPS http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/
I would still just hang up on the automated service though and ring your card services company instead of passing on personal details!
Changed my telephone contact details to my new house, and made two transactions within 30 seconds at a shop this weekend - 1st transaction less than £100, second was several hundred pounds. My card was rejected with a query code and the store had to phone up to confirm and get a code to override and I had to speak to them to confirm details.
Arrived home - there is a message on the answerphone from this number, and on getting to work another from the same. At least I know my contact details are correct now!
Obviously, I just hang up every time because a) I don't bank with TSB, and b) I'm not a complete fool....
A quick google turns up this:

Be warned, if you press any key other than hang up, you will get stung for a premium rate call.
However, I checked my account online and there were indeed several unposted (fraudulent) overseas transactions for £3K+. I called MBNA fraud department (0800 116 262) who confirmed my card had been cloned and was used overseas.
In light of the many telephone scams that exist today, I asked why they opted to use an automated call to alert you of the fraud. Apparently they use a mixture of personal and automated calls, and the reason for doing so is they don't have enough manpower!!
Vodafone are not interested ! nor are the Police
mum called the operator as i spoke to abbey who i bank with and they have no record of the number, yet the operator said that banks/building socities/unitlity companies outsource fraud investigations and don't even tell their call centre staff/front line staff of it! needless to say its been a pain, and even if they continue to call back, i'm not convinced that its legit and i'm not going to fall for the scam of "pressing any key" and then having all my credit swiped and running up the phone bill on the landline!
Thanks for your recent email.
Having tried the number you provided, it would appear this isn't a Lloyds TSB telephone number. I'm sorry for any concern this matter is causing you.
