I have received numerous calls from this "company", all of which start with a request for address verification for Process serving. Intimations that a law suit has been filed (the Company, to the best of my knowledge is in Florida, I live and own a business in Illinois). What process server doesn't have an address? These people call constantly and wont reveal the name of the entity for which they are collecting unless you "confirm" your address and last four of social. I am formally filing a complaint with the FTC and the Florida Dept of Financial Regulation, but wondered if anyone has had experience with these people?

What information do you have on them out of New Hampshire?

Is there a possibility of a California connection?
(A large california "debt collection" scam was just sued by FTC (filed 10-11-11), and reportedly raided on or about 10-13 or 10-14.)

Has there been any phone contact since 10-17-11?

What is interesting is that I had a debt from at least ten years ago that they got the information on? How was that able to happen in the first place? They said it was a company (that I was paying $20 a month to), and now the bill was a few thousand bucks... I couldn't help it, I started laughing! With all that I am reading, this is not just a small group of folks but more of an elaborate scam that is paying off by playing the numbers game in the amount of calls they do? Yes I gave my last 4 SS#s on the front end thinking it was something completely different, so I'm so excited to see where that goes! We all should start calling them several times a day to see if they know much about reap & sow? But then again, a crackhead is a crackhead...

actually you dont need any digits of any bodies social with accurint you can simply type in an address or reverse telephone number, also can search a name in a state and find people. People can do nothing with the last four digits of your social most of the time they have the first five and just need the last four to make sure it is really the person

"People can do nothing with the last four digits of your social "

      Sure they can.

They can look up a name and address of anyone, anywhere, get the first five, make a "debt collection" call and ask for the last 4 "to verify", and if it matches the whole number, Accurint will tell them.

They then have all 9 digits, even if they picked a person at random by name.

And they didn't even have to access a credit report, where the target could see their inquiry.

Accurint is ripe for use in identity theft under the guise of "debt collection".

A "debt collector" calling, and having your SSN, proves nothing at all.

Don't make a payment.  Paying on an old out of statute debt will cause the debt to be "reaffirmed"--the clock will start over on the debt.

If the debt is more than ten years old, it is like past the statute, and has stale dated.  That means that the new "owners" of the account will not be able to get a judgment or to post it in your credit records.

Looks like FTC is beginning to take an interest in this type of thing.

    The question remains:

    Is "Thurston" part of "Corona"?
MO matches, and they come on the scene at a time when Corona was expanding massively, including use of mail drops more distant from Corona CA.
Thurston may have a FL mail drop, but already there is a suggestion they are really in NH.
Thurston complaints have gone really quiet in the last several weeks.
Could they actually be run from CA?

I am curious why the writer thought these folks were from NH. Just because the call came from a NH area code doesn't mean its actually coming from NH. Thurston uses a lot of spoof calling tactics (these are services that allow you to make a call that appear to be from any number, even the white house!) and magic jack lines. I am amazed that Florida hasn't shut them down yet...

we have been getting these phone calls all of October, saying that we are being served and they need our address. They won't stop. What do we do? As to our knowledge, we owe no back debts, and they won't tell us who they represent. Please advise

I also started receiving these calls after signing a new Verizon contract. They not only call my home, they are calling my daughter's cell phone and my brother-in-law's cell phone. I left them a message and told them one more call and I was going to report it to the Sheriff's Office.

This 'Thurston' company has contacted me several times in the last few weeks threatening my husband and saying they were going to serve us.  Each day they say they are going to serve us, no one shows up. Now it is supposed to be this morning. I contacted the Florida AG and talked to them. I was told this company is  a scam, so don't fall for it! We owe no back debt. I filed a complaint the AG and the FTC. I am a retired disabled Veteran and this action is a disgrace to our country and the hard-working people who I chose to defend! Shame on them!

FDCPA requires that debt collectors accurately identify themselves, and that they not use deception in collecting debts.

Spoof calling is a common tactic in fraudulent debt collection.
