Do not...I repeat...do NOT buy a Bluegreen timeshare under any conditions. No matter how sweet it may sound, it is a rip-off. My wife and I bought one, and we are in a continual state of regret about it. It is virtually impossible to sell (the same amount of points we bought for $10,000 are selling for about $3,000 online), plus we have yearly fees of about $700 that must be paid for us to even be able to keep using it.

Here are some of the things you may not hear while you're in a Bluegreen presentation... we didn't:

-each year you will have to pay both "maintenance fees" and "club dues," which for us amount to over $700. If you don't pay, you can't use any of your points at all until you do pay.

-many of the resorts they tell you about can only be booked in 7-day increments, which means you'll take that trip and no others for two years because you'll use up all your points on that single trip.

-we just found this one out... if you don't have the points, you can't book a trip... for example, we get 12,000 new points in July, so I called to book something in August. Well, I can't do that until I "have the points." Of course, by the time the points actually show up, all the places will be booked for the summer. We're all paid up on maintenance fees and club dues, so we will definitely get the points, but too bad... we have to wait. The person on the phone even sympathized with me and said he understood what I was saying, but too bad.

-they say they will help you rent your timeshare, but this is a joke. Your timeshare will never rent for anything near what you need to maintain the fees on it, much less pay it off.

-take a look at this web site to see what points are actually worth if you buy them on eBay: http://popular.ebay.com/ns/Real-Estate/Bluegreen.html If you really desperately want Bluegreen points, don't buy them from Bluegreen.

-they tell you that you can book things just a day or two in advance, but this is almost never possible in real life. Things are booked up months in advance.

Owning a Bluegreen timeshare is like a weight that you have to drag around with you for the rest of your life. There are many places that will rent timeshares if you like that kind of thing, and you can usually get them fairly cheap and without any obligation for the future. When I imagine paying $700 a year for the rest of my life, it feels amazingly scary. Don't do it. You're locking yourself into something that will never end when there is absolutely no need to do so.

They give you the free trip, then take advantage of how little you've researched timeshares when you're in the presentation. They tell you this price can only be offered this one time, and that you can't take another trip. It's all cheap sales techniques, and they wouldn't be necessary if it were something people really benefited from.

We even looked on the internet during our sales presentation... if only I had come across a letter like this, we probably wouldn't have bought, and we'd be much better off. At least take a few days to think about it. If they can't give you that long to think, they're tricking you anyway.

Buying a Bluegreen timeshare is a terrible decision. They, like many salespeople, will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to buy, knowing that they will not personally be accountable for any misrepresentations of the truth later on.

One thing they promised us is that we could rent our timeshare. Now they've done away with that aspect as well, so you either use it, keep paying about $700 in fees each year along with whatever you paid originally, or you just lose the points. Every letter we receive is something else they're taking away from us.

The most recent thing that happened was that we had tried to rent ours out for 10,000 points (most of our points) before they decided to stop letting people do that. So I called today, 10 days in advance, to check and make sure it was rented, since this is the cut-off for when I can cancel without losing points. So the guy on the phone told me that yes, it is rented. And I asked, "Well, what happens if the people cancel sometime in the next 10 days?" He said, "We don't have any control over that, sir." And I said, "I understand that, but I don't either. So what happens to my points if they cancel?" And he said, "Well, you lose those points."

So some renter I don't even know can decide to back out at the last minute, and I lose 10,000 points and don't get to travel or make any money from my timeshare for 2 years! That seems fair...

Everything Bluegreen does seems to be a way to get themselves more money and screw over their "valued customers."

And Bluegreen, if you're reading this, don't bother calling me trying to get me to revoke the complaint... we're trying to sell our timeshare as quickly as we can and hopefully never have any interaction with you for as long as we live.

Had a nice week in the smokies for 499 bucks with 200 bucks free credit at Bass Pro..
Why would anyone ever buy into these? You can go on vacation every year for pennies and get free gift cards & gifts. Bounce from company to company taking their freebies and enjoying their properties WITHOUT EVER BUYING A DAMN THING...only cost ya a few hours of your time at their stupid azz presentations..I don't care how high pressure the salesman is..sorry but you aren't selling me anything..I buy nothing..it really quite easy :-)

    Mad Too
Owner.  Hate it. Mostly for the little things.  ie; I was 8 months pregnant and had food poisoning while staying there.  I went to the hospital it was so bad.  The next morning I told them the story and asked if they would just clean the floor in the bathroom. The said that couldn't be done without a $20 fee. No [***]....what are my MF for?  If I would have been staying at a regular hotel they would have cleaned the whole room.

When we talked to them about the situation they tried to sell us more points and Travelers Plus because then we could make the most of our points. That was the only way to make it  better...[***].

This is only one of many small things not to mention the big things mentioned by the other owners.

All the rest of the stories are true.  They are everything I hate about this.

I'm out $199.00 with this scam company for being a sucker and paying them money before I knew what I was getting into.  Supposedly a 5 night/6day vacation in Orlando, Fla. with some free tickets to some local amusements.  If those of you out there think Bluegreen is so great, then I understand I can sell this to you for $199.00.  Some deal.  I'll bet I get no offers!

    Want out
I have 6,000 points every other year, 2 free weeks for the next 3 years, a cruise, and anytime bonus nights, and 4000 extra points only to be used in White or Blue season.  We have used the time share once in The Dells and loved the experience.  the other time I sent me mom on vacation to Ormand Beach, which I had to pay a $500.00 fee to use it (it was one of those bonus weeks with RCI)  Anyways I have changed jobs and making a hell of alot less money and just cannot afford the $650.00 maintaince fee anymore.  If anyone would be interested in buying these off of me and taking over the MF shoot me an e-mail to landwadsager@yahoo.com.
My only complaint I have is that I can only book my vacations 45 days in advance.  By then there are no available rooms were I want to go.  The staff where we bought it have not been helpful since we walked out but I have figured out how to book it myself.  So again if anyone is interested in purchasing my points message me.

patty....if you have enough points , try renting 2 or 3 weekdays to friends or neighbors for short getaways.. I even had business cards made to do just that... you can charge a small amount per point where both parties will be satisfied..

i too am a bluegreen owner -- as gold .... I bought most of my points on ebay for almost nothing because of the people that bought direct from bluegreen and their high prices.. I rent out enough nights to pay for the maintainence fees and have just enough points left over to take two short stay vacations.. you have to learn how to use the system.. DON'T ever buy direct from bluegreen.. I am always offered point packages for free -- all i have to do is pay $125 to the title agency for transfer of the deed.I do not make any money on a yearly basis so i don't have the tax worry.... I just rent at a small fixed amount per point..

So what is the best channel for getting rid of the BG product?

My mother wishes to simply sell the 10,000-points timeshare. She cannot afford to pay the annual fees and I don't want this product based on my vacationing needs. Please advise, provide websites, or best-practices stories.

We are looking to move on this, thank you for your help!

Scarlettt, I have 8000 points deeded at Big Cedar. Would you seriously like to purchase them at a discount? I simply cannot use them any longer and would like to unload them.

Bluegreen is a rip off... I am very lucky and sold it to a retired couple ..just added their names to my deed and signed a paper that I would never use it ... They use all the benefits and nothing is in my name.. Sold it for what I had in it.

Just a note to say I too have an issue the with the way the timeshare is sold and the value obtained from the investment. The sales pitch was excellent. The presenter should have been given the academy award. A heart wrenching story, even tears that in hindsight were all intended to engender trust. After the presentation, the move to isolation where one salesman would be supported by a second both pushing to 'close a deal'. Fool that I am I let it happen. Worse yet however was that we made it clear that we could not afford the offer but rather then let us go they pushed some more, offering to sell a 1/2 share  where we would receive $8,000 points every other year. We were lead to believe we could accrue points so it seemed like it was worth a try. Sadly, we had no lawyer to assist at closing and there was not much of a chance I would adequately understand what I was getting myself into. Fool that I am I trusted the folks that seemed to be doing us a big fave by making these "special arrangements". Well, rather then go on and on about how foolish I was here is how it ended up. I am essentially paying off a mortgage at $154 dollars a month plus annual maintenance fees of $650. The day after I get my points one half of the points I held expire. It seems that I will never have more then 8,000 points at any given time and that won't even get me a weekend in a one bedroom unit. I am truly an idiot, but Blue Green is driven by their sales folks and they have no conscience and but one thing in mind. Make the sale. It does not matter how or to who. Nevertheless I acknowledge that I am the idiot. Only folks that have " DISPOSABLE " income should get involved, and there are some.  Read the posts, they are easily identified.

    cant get a straight answer
Ive owed points, 20000bi ann since 2008, NEVER been used.  we were told no MF, book anytime, any where you want an RV set up, you tell us when and where and it will be there.  We've tried every year and no vacation.  we pay 1000.00 a year for MF.  Ive got it on the market to sell, for almost 2yrs now.  now we cant use it, my husbands a disabled vet and its so hard to travel with him so im to the point now that im just gonna stop the autopay for it and let them win.  its sad something that was to bring you some joy makes you cry over the lies and stress.  everytime i call them to ask something its not what i was told at the start, middle, or now.  Malory in TN told us flat out, "If you ever want to sell it, call me and let me know, we will show your package to someone and sell it first from here." cant even get her to call me.anyone want this package email me shnnnsht@aol.com.  to those that "have it all figured out" im so happy for you that you have the time to learn is so well, i on the other hand am my husbands only caregiver, and we have children, i dont have the time or the nerves left to deal with this crap, maybe you can buy mine and enjoy more vacation time.:)
