Complaint

I recently received a phone call from 1-888-279-9221 and also 1-877-855-4547 that told me I had won a $1000 online shopping spree. All I had to do was answer a few questions; little did I know the questions were about my bank account information. Beware, everyone, if you get a phone call from this number(s). It is a scam. After doing some research on the company, I discovered that they use your bank account information to rob you. The report I read was written by a woman who had the same experience with this company. She was told that she would receive magazines in the mail. She received no magazines but money was still withdrawn from her account.

For those that get a phone call from this number, DO NOT answer.

A common deceptive tactic with fraudulent telemarketers when they can't get the victim to agree to an order, is to get them to "agree" to receive just some information "so they can make up their mind", or claiming they "can cancel within 30 day after you review the terms".

Then they cram through the order and charges as if the victim had actually agreed to them.  They might even create a doctored recording editing their "aggreement" to receive information" into a different script of whatever terms they are cramming.

Attorney General fraud complaints have generally been effective against magazine subscription scammers, since they usually don't want closer scrutiny.  Their game is intimidating naive victims, not fighting prosecution in court.

I didn't think of that, but it makes sense.

The first move with this scam is getting your foot in the door, and there are already a variety of tactics they are reported to use for that.  Claiming "your friend John" recommended you "for a great deal" would serve the same purpose.

MAKE A COMPLAINT TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, AND READING AMERICA WILL MAGICALLY RESPOND WITH A CANCELLATION! Hahaha. I got mine taken care of that way, and if they keep trying to call me or bill me then I will be able to reopen the case. Hopefully this takes care of it for GOOD! They even let me keep a subscription to some of my magazines just with the money I've already paid. Hopefully this works out like they say it supposed to.

Legally you cannot enter into ANY "contract," verbal or otherwise, if you are under 18.  If your daughter is a minor, that's one way to get out of it because her contract is void.

There is no "contract" for many reasons.

    1)  You are a minor, and have no legal power to agree to this alleged "contract".  As a "matter of public policy" any such contract is therefore void.  (They even claim they don't sign up minors, so they know it's illegal.)

    2)  They set out to defraud you, deliberately failing to disclose the terms they now claim were agreed to.  Failing to disclose such "terms" in their offer, they nonetheless took money out of your account that you never authorized, which is theft.

    3)  Even though they took your money, they have delivered NOTHING.  That is fraud.

    4)  They are sending you invoices (demands for payment) for merchandise at terms you never agreed to.  That is mail fraud.

Contact your state Attorney General for assistance.  They are reported to back off immediately once they know a state Attorney General is interested.  In addition, file a complaint with FTC, and file a mail fraud complaint with the U.S. Postal Inspector.

Their address has been posted. Is there no one that owns a gun? In the name of god and the nra, a few ofthese guys turning up dead might change some of their minds. YOUR GOVERNMENTS WONT PROTECT YOU, that is why jesus created guns.

Forget the FTC or the BBB. The agency you want is WWW.FCC.GOV which actually does prosecute people that violate the no call list or solicit your cell number. make it easy on them, give McCabes name & address and company name and phone numbers involved.

They tried to defraud you, and you blocked your card to prevent fraud.

File complaints with FTC outlining what they promised vs. what they tried to take, and stop worrying.

There are no indications they have used their deceptive telemarketing "recordings" in any court.  They are probably too well known to get away with conning a judge.  There aren't even any complaints indicating they have passed bogus "accounts" off to any "debt collector".  They are just looking for suckers to bully with implied threats.

If they try again, file complaints with FTC, and your state Attorney General.

MAJOR DECEIT AND SCAM that I also fell pray to.  There are thousands of complaints dating back to 2003.  AND THEY ARE STILL AROUND ROBBING PEOPLE!! I am writing a cease and desist letter.  Unfortunately, most end up closing their bank accounts to avoid continuing withdrawals.  Posting and filing complaints is about all there seems to do.  Good luck.  My eyes have been opened.

[***]... It's funny how you dod not record the first part of your spill.
You only record what you want to use as threatning.
