    Hello,

I would just like to go on record as a former Independent Contractor for this company.  I no longer work for Smart Tools because of its aggregated bad image and my perception of an unwillingness or lack of interest from those responsible, to do the things necessary to help change that image.  Needless to say, this made for a very unhealthy work environment.  While working there I did have some customers praise the program saying that it was, "exactly what they were looking for" or on occasion share some story to me of their success.  Unfortunately, it was nothing compared to the percentage of people who were hyper cynical, rude and did not take the opportunity seriously - I even received a few death threats. Ultimately, I did not get the support I needed to stay and be a productive member of the staff.  Now, with all that being said, I believe that Smart Tools is NOT a scam and that they do provide a pretty decent opportunity to make money if you are willing to put in the hard work... and believe me it is hard work. Good luck to all that may pursue this endeavor or any other!

Thank you for posting an honest review.  All things have problems that has to be worked thru, and finding and opportunity can be really hard.  To expect no problems is asking almost the impossible.  I just want to find something that is legal and finding people money that they was not expecting sounds pretty exciting.

A double bind is an emotionally distressing dilemma in communication in which an individual (or group) receives two or more conflicting messages, in which one message negates the other. This creates a situation in which a successful response to one message results in a failed response to the other (and vice versa), so that the person will be automatically wrong regardless of response. The double bind occurs when the person cannot confront the inherent dilemma, and therefore cannot resolve it or opt out of the situation.

Double bind theory was first described by Gregory Bateson and his colleagues in the 1950s.[1]

Double binds are often utilized as a form of control without open coercion—the use of confusion makes them difficult to respond to or resist.[2]

A double bind generally includes different levels of abstraction in orders of messages, and these messages can be stated or implicit within the context of the situation, or conveyed by tone of voice or body language. Further complications arise when frequent double binds are part of an ongoing relationship to which the person or group is committed.[3][4]

Double bind theory is more clearly understood in the context of complex systems and cybernetics, because human communication and also the mind itself function in an interactive manner similar to ecosystems. Complex systems theory helps us understand the interdependence of the parts of a message and provides "an ordering of what to the Newtonian looks like chaos

The double bind is often misunderstood to be a simple contradictory situation, where the victim is trapped by two conflicting demands. While it's true that the core of the double bind is two conflicting demands, the differences lie in how they are imposed on the victim, what the victim's understanding of the situation is and finally, who (or what) imposes these demands upon the victim. Unlike the usual no-win situation, the victim has difficulty defining the exact nature of the paradoxical situation in which he or she is caught. The contradiction may be unexpressed in its immediate context and therefore is invisible to external observers, only becoming evident when a prior communication is considered. Typically, a demand is imposed upon the victim by someone who they respect (a parent, teacher or doctor), but the demand itself is inherently impossible to fulfill, because some broader context forbids it. For example, when a person in a position of authority imposes two contradictory conditions but there is an unspoken rule that one must never question authority.

3 major contributors to the conscious mind's inability to define an element or resolve a problem.

1.Sensory Overload-  Sensory Overload occurs when a person's senses are exceedingly stimulated and ultimately overloaded with external stimuli i.e. sights, smells, sounds, etc.  When this takes place a person's mind will be unable to process the massive infusion of information received.

    2. Conflicting Information- when the conscious mind receives conflicting information it is labored with the task of quickly resolving such conflicts.  If such conflicts cannot be resolved quickly then the conscious mind will become confused.  If this state of confusion lingers the subconscious mind will activate to protect the conscious mind from experiencing confusion-based trauma brought forth by undefined elements and unresolved problems.  In such a case the conscious mind will shut down and the person's subconscious mind will be initialized as the primary resolver of the undefined elements or unresolved problems.  Again, conflicting information creates confusion in the conscious mind.  Confusion is a form of psychological trauma.

    3. Fear- The third major contributor to the conscious mind's inability to define an element or resolve a problem is the intellectually stifling emotion of fear.  Understand that fear, and intellectual process, are mutually exclusive.  The emotion of fear shuts down the intellectual process and triggers a physiological response in the body.  This physiological response bypasses the conscious mind and initializes the subconscious program of flight or fight.

You have described some of the psychological basis underpinning many frauds, scams, and shakedowns.  Those engaged in these scams, phone extortion shakedowns often attempt to obtain an emotional reaction from the victim, through harassment and abuse, as a means to make the deception more effective and to provoke an impulsive response such as handing over the money they are after just to stop the abuse.  You are getting a packaged, scripted version of the same sociopathic behavior common to elder and spousal abuse.

Once you recognize the common patterns of frauds and scams, the intended emotional responses are replaced with rage, which is our hominid emotional defense and response to deception.

For  analytic techniques useful in counterdeception, see analysis of competing hypotheses.  https://www.cia.gov/library/center-for-the-st ... hofIntelNew.pdf

Add the deceptive hypotheses to the possibilities, and weigh the evidence against the alternative that it is being controlled or constructed for purposes of manipulation.  Evidence of control  and manipulation reveals the capabilities and intent of your adversary, and should result in a  reappraisal of all other evidence with respect to the possibility of deception.

And  have you considered  the alternative meaning of  the name, viewed through the cynical eyes of a  scammer:  tool rhymes with fool, and is a slang synonym for fool, so a "smart tool" might as well be a dumb fool.

I just cancelled my membership of about two hours.  There were no problems with cancelling and they were very pleasant.  I'm going to go on their website and look at it more.  No complaints have been placed on this website in a while, so maybe things are better at the company than they used to be.  If I get in and it works I will come back here and let you know what happens.
