My daughter and I both received calls today from these people saying I owe on a payday loan? I was completely confused, but they scared the heck out of
both of us. Threatening lawsuits, incarceration, etc. I asked them to fax information regarding the debt and they could not do that. They also wanted met o okay money be withdrawn from my account. They have my ss #, this scares me! I faxed a letter to the fax number they provided asking for information as to where and when this debt happened. That only angered them and my daughter then received another threatening and harassing phone call.

They aren't real debt collectors.  You don't owe them anything.  If you did owe someone a loan, even a payday loan, you wouldn't owe it to them.

They are running a criminal extortion racket, reported to be using access to old payday loan data as well as consumer credit report information to con consumers out of unowed money through illegal threats.  They are often reported to have thick Indian or middle eastern accents, to have ridiculous phony english names, and to use ridiculous sort of legal sounding names, like they are some strange "law enforcement" agency you never heard of.

One lady reported on this site that they were calling her trying to reach someone she never heard of, and when she told them that, they threatened to come over and "kill her baby", which they could hear in the background.

These are criminals who have been using phone threats to con people into sending money for several years.  There are several warnings out on them, starting with the West Virginia Attorney General, BBB, and a number of other sources.

They can't do anything but call and make vile threats.  Call the police, and if they keep calling, tell them you are recording the call to use as evidence.  Or just hang up.

Here are more details from your report.  Your experiences are typical of this gang.

    https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-424-354-4277

Note that there are no other complaints against this number.  A real debt collector would have months of complaints, since they aren't trying to hide their identity.  These criminals keep changing their numbers to avoid getting caught.  There are reports they may be using disposable cell phones, or spoofing caller id.

Criminals, yes.  But only phone thugs.

Their only weapons are lies and threats, and they don't want to be found since there are people looking for them.

Been in the telecom industry, I can tell you spoofing is illegal, you can always use other resources to follow thru. You may want to contact The US attorney general, the FCC as well as the FTC. Also if this is interstate you can actually contact the FBI.

Based on the law, they cannot contact you at your place of business. They are only legally able to contact you at your home; you can also send a stop and desist letter via certified mail.

Record their conversation, when you speak to them if you do, many of them have no clue of the law and make drastic mistake threatening people.  They can't make any statements in which they can destroy your credit, call your family, call your work and or tell everybody that you have debts and you do not pay, this is protected by the law. IN this case now you have the upper hand, as now they open the door for a lawsuit, almost any attorney will take this type of cases on contingency. Is an infringement of your rights and punish by law. This people use scare tactics to scare people and even collect many times the same debts that have been paid previously.
The reality  nothing that they can do, if you do not or can't pay, they must take you to court and get a judgment against you, then they need to be able to collect.
You want to get even, call then day in and day out, to their numbers use redial, and have anybody that you know do the same, do it day in and day out, that will shut down their PBX system, if they do it to you do it to them.
Yes annoying, but effective if hundreds of people do the same and saturate their phone lines.
Remember their 800 are free to you, they pay for it, call put them on hold and have your friend do the same, do this every day as much as you can. IF they have the right to harass you, you have the right to do the same to them. They called you first!

Here are some of the biggest scan bags in the industry, and believe me they are all scan bags at the end. They count on you to be afraid of them.

Call their 800 numbers is free to you but not to them.
They use many spoof numbers if any, as many times they use no caller ID on purpose but they leave you a number to call. Always keep the recording particularly if they are menacing and report does to your police local department as now you have a legal record.

If you want to negotiate a settlement call your original lender directly, do not with this scan bags, they are in commissions or percentages based. Many banks and lender will negotiate up to 80 % of the debts, make sure they do not report it to the IRS if not they can make you pay the taxes on the remaining amount, and make sure they clean your credit, get it in writing first.

    Don't get mad get even.

People which do block the caller ID and or use Spoof numbers always have something to hide, that is the only reason they will use a Spoof number (Fake number / Voip Number / Or PBX number whit no actual connection only rings and then dies)   Report them to the Authorities, this business practices are illegal and punish by law: if they use spoof numbers, Obscene and rude language, threats, harassment, all this are felonies and punish by law. Report them to your Local Telecom provider, your local District attorney, the local police department, your local senator, record the conversation and keep any and all voice mail left, don't be afraid, they can do absolutely nothing to you till they take you to court if you owe them any money, is futile to argue with ignorant people.

Problem is, based on a number of consumer complaints, it appears that "American Law Division" isn't even an actual debt collector.  They are entirely phony, trying to scam money for fake, make-up "debts", with highly illegal threats.

Everything they do is illegal, but they set out to commit crime from the start, so they spoof and they keep changing phone numbers, to hide their true location.

The same or related scammers appear to have been operating under this and several other names for several years, in effect using the debt collection industry's reputatioh for abusive tactics as "cover" for their own abusive tactics.

The FBI recently reported that complaints of using the name "FBI" in connection with frauds has been rising.  Some of that may be due to these scammers, since a recent trend visible in complaints has been for them to shift from the earlier bogus but unbelievable names they were using to names of actual government agencies, including "FBI".

Single federal lawsuit against "American Law Division", recent May 14, 2010.

California Central District Court, "Nature of Suit: Other", not "Fair Debt Collection", "No "LLC" or "Inc." in the name as would be expected.

Who are these people, and where did they find them.

I have been receiving these calls as well they are so difficult to understand on the phone until they tell you their bogus name. The persons name that called me was Mark Brown he stated that he was a lawyer with American Law Division 530 776 5326, he stated that I had gotten a payday loan and didnt pay it back in Dec 2009 and my credit union returned it and I now owed $443.00 the original amount of the loan was $300 and the rest was charges that I needed to pay immediately. He gave me a case number and he knew personal bits and pieces of information about me like just the last 4 # off my ssn#,the credit union name but not the account, the month and year the loan was supposedly been taken out but not the actual day. He then went on to tell me I needed to pay with a debt or credit card when I told him that I didnt have either one he said I needed to go to wal-mart to get a prepaid card and call him back with the number and also he dictated a letter to me that I was to write and fax over to him @ 206 457-1971 along with a copy of my drivers license and a copy of the card used to make the payment. Whenever I questioned him about any of this he would get irritated and start yelling and telling me that I must listen to him and do what he said and when he said -if I didnt want to do it I needed to get an lawyer when I said that I had one and I gave him the number to the court house we hung up. His supervisor called back pissed off becasue they said I gave them the wrong number and I a was a liar and I needed to tell Mark Brown that I was sorry because I hurt him and I was going to pay for my lies so I asked him was that a threat he said yes (I have this all recorded on my answer machine) I told him that I wasnt telling anyone that and I hung up.  He called 25 times after that and I just let the phone ring. I filled in a report online for the FBI and called my local secret service agency and spoke with someone there and they took a report. I was bothered by the call and to just make sure that I didnt have any returns from any payday loan company I called my credit union there is nothing there it never happend.
These people just know how to get under your skin but dont be tricked if you have any doubt start with your bank and go from there. Im pretty sure they will keep calling but there really isnt anything I can do about it but either listen and then hang up
    Stay strong

    Other complaints.
    https://complaintwire.org/Complaint.aspx/IDDUf49WgwDukQjMvFILqA

They are just overseas criminal con artists and extortionists, who have gotten access to some old payday loan data and possibly consumer credit report data, and are using it to con people.

"The persons name that called me was Mark Brown"
They make up America sounding names.

"he stated that he was a lawyer "
He is not a lawyer.  He is a scammer.

"he stated that I had gotten a payday loan and didnt pay it back in Dec 2009 and my credit union returned it and I now owed $443.00 the original amount of the loan was $300 and the rest was charges that I needed to pay immediately."
Whether or not you owe some payday loan, you don't owe it to these criminals.  Many complaints against them include that people know they have never even had a payday loan.  It's all fake.

"He gave me a case number and he knew personal bits and pieces of information about me like just the last 4 # off my ssn#,the credit union name but not the account, the month and year the loan was supposedly been taken out but not the actual day. "
The "case number" is all BS.  The rest is often reported in other complaints against them, indicating that they have gotten access to some old payday loan data and possibly consumer credit report data.

"he dictated a letter to me that I was to write and fax over to him @ 206 457-1971 along with a copy of my drivers license and a copy of the card used to make the payment. "
He is trying to sound all "legal".  All BS.

"Whenever I questioned him about any of this he would get irritated and start yelling and telling me that I must listen to him and do what he said and when he said -if I didnt want to do it I needed to get an lawyer when I said that I had one and I gave him the number to the court house we hung up. "
They are looking for people to intimidate with threats.  They feel safe, calling from overseas, so they have no fear of making ANY threat.  Some of their own bogus addresses, as seen in their BBB reports, are also county court houses.

"I needed to tell Mark Brown that I was sorry because I hurt him "
A "lawyer" with a thin skin, calling making threats?  Poor guy.

"He called 25 times after that and I just let the phone ring."
    Good.

"I filled in a report online for the FBI and called my local secret service agency and spoke with someone there and they took a report."
That, and publicize the scam, is about all they can do.

"just make sure that I didnt have any returns from any payday loan company I called my credit union there is nothing there it never happend."
With these jokers, there never is any debt owed to them.  They are just criminals.

If you review their various complaints over more than a year, you will find that their numbers frequently change, often after about a month or two, and that the area codes are varied.  They may be calling from overseas, probably India, using VoIP.

they have been calling me for about 2 months now. I was not returning the calls because it just wasn't right to me. He said he was a detective and that I was going to jail because I owed on a loan. Then he said if if didn't return his call "God Bless Me" whatever that meant. He had an Indian accent. Then I came into work one nigh tand they had called my job but wouldn't tell my boss who they where just "American Law Division" and left a number 213-373-1768. I called them back and asked for them to send me written proof of this loan. The man got irrate and started yelling at me, told me he was filling a suit, and the hung up on me. I didn't think to record the call, but I will do that next time they call me!

So everyone listen to this.  these scum bags started in august with calling saying they were from a company called, national crime center and that i owed a loan with cashadvance usa. i got so scared that i contacted cashadvance usa through email and to my avail, they noted i did not have or ever have an application or loan with them.  when the man called back, i told him that and he said, " well, why would they sell me the account?" i told him to tell me the name of the company who sold the account and he said it was bahamas marketing group and paydayusa. so being the resourceful person i am, i googled both names and guess what, neither name was valid.  now, we go into September and now they are calling saying they are from american law division and his name is sam backstrum. now, sam backstrum said he worked for national crime center in august.  now, i'm receiving calls from tabulah who works for bci(bureau of criminal investigation) imagine that!! i have filed complaints with the FBI, US attorney general in PA, FTC and BBB. i was going to have my cell phone # changed, but, then thought why give them the satisfaction.  I just don't answer the phone when i see 213-373-1768 or unavailable show up on my caller id. i called 213-373-1768 last night, and guess what it said, "the extension @ 716..is not available and then there's a beep like you are supposed to leave a message.  sooner or later they will get tired and they will stop. so i can't wait until next month to see what name they come up with next.  btw, the other # to look out for-409-221-3206xt 2060. fax #206-338-3069

Today I got the same thing. The man spoke with a heavy indian accent and threatened me with a lawsuit. He wanted me to fax my info along with an agreement to make monthly installments. He gave the name of Mike Johnson and the number he gave was 424-785-1075

Today i received a phone call message at my work and it had the number 424-785-1075 and his name showed to be Mike Johnson and it was urgent. When i called this number he did not say his name was mike johnson and he spoke with a heavy indian accent. He said a lawsuit was pending for theft by deception and i must pay 532.89 that i had no idea what it was. He told me i had 30 minutes to send a fax with a promissory note, my id and debit card info. The bell in my head was ringing louder by the minute so i checked this so called American Law Division and found nothing other than this. While i was talking to this person the signal was very wavy like an overseas call. I got another phone call from him and i advised him he was a fraud and do not call me again. My bank was notified of this scam and they are working with me to locate this Scam.

I have received several calls from these people...always a different number.  The one this time is 424-785-1075.  Always say for USA Cash Advance, and going to arrest me and facing federal charges.  It is a scam...have received calls from other numbers, always same accent and silly american names.  Always request proof, but never get it!  Don't give these people any money...just keep reporting them to any government agency you can think of.
