My husband and I joined LA Fitness and then we got him the Body of Change membership, which is their personal trainer thing. Well, he was given a new trainer every time and then, the last trainer of his got fired and no one ever called anc scheduled sessions for him.

Meanwhile they continued taking out $100 a month for the membership and the service they were not delivering. We even called and complained about the service, The customer service person said they will handle it and scheduled a session for us. When we showed up, nobody knew we were coming and there was no one to do the training session.

At the end they made us pay a $500 cancellation fee for over 6 months of undelivered service.

They are criminal and deliver none of what they promise. Please let everyone know - DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICES, THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF !!!!

LA Fitness makes you mail in a form to their headquarters to cancel a membership.  They do this becuase it will likely delay your cancellation by at least a month.   In my case they kept taking out the fee,  when I called them they said they never got the form.   This gave them 2 more months.

I went through hell as LA Fitness "lost" my letter and as I was given a PO Box number, I was unable to send a certified letter. Reading through the internet I found this email address:

    orlandog@lafitness.com

I sent a quick note saying I would like to cancel my membership and attached my name, key tag number and phone number as well as an explanation of why I didn't have their form (the website wasn't working), and within a few hours I received confirmation that the membership was cancelled. THANK YOU ORLANDO, whomever you may be!

had to contact the general attorney

I had an 18 month battle with LA Fitness.  talked to corporate and sent 10 certified letters.  Had to contact the General Attorneys office in my state and have the bank close my account and launch a fraud investigation.  Finally received a refund.

Could anyone wishing to make a formal complaint email me at kimberlymerlin@gmail.com. I am contacting the DA in Los Angeles after signing the contract for personal training services. I relate to all these other complaints. I was coerced, told it would only be at this rate for today & had no idea I signed a yearlong contract until it was too late to cancel.

I'm taking my complaint to the attorney general.  I'd like to hear from those folks in PA.  My son has a disability which is in the form of a chemical imbalance (thought disorder).  He was taken advantage of in the Downingtown location.  He thought he was signing for 2 mos and they got him for 1 year $4,000.  His income is only $7,000.

As an ex-employee I can tell you why you get a different trainer. The trainers only get 7.50 per half an hour. At other clubs they get a much larger cut. That and copertate treat their people in the clubs like crap so there is no reason for them to stay

Actually your the problem. Since I worked there I have seen people straight up lie to people with LEARNING DISABILITIES and thats one of the reasons I quit within a month!

They lie and say they didnt get your cancellation form. And a lot of the times, trainers just leave with a message and the person who sees over it doesnt help the people who are auto-matically charged.

If you pay for a service you should get it. And actually since I am a major in psychology and law, a contract with a company that does that does not actually stand up in court. Its as long as you can prove you were pressured (which sales does do a lot!) you can get out of it, its the #1 reason for mal-pratice law suits.

Regardless, its wrong. ANd I hope that pple read this before they sign up thats why I'm here!

I have the same problem now. Always read LA Fitness contact in detail. I opt for the personal training sessions with them. The sales guy said that you can cancel/hold the account any time, but now I hear that I have to continue for the entire one year term. If I cancel I have to pay the 50% of the remaining session fees which would be in thousands. Again if I hold, I can do it for couple of months, but the contract end date would be extended accordingly. So there is no cancelation without huge cancelation fees, which they will not tell you anytime. Read the contract many times and don’t do the mistake I have made in a hurry. Getting good shape is every body’s dream, but I don’t like the fact that some people are using this normal spirit to do nasty money making business.

Some body please suggest if there is any consumer forum or legal firm who can help us in order to not pay the cancellation fees and also not have the credit history damaged. In order to stop their dirty business, the only thing can be done is to stop their way to make huge money in form of unethical penalty fee and also without damaging the individual credit history.

LA FITNESS CONTACT NAMES/NUMBERS/EMAILS to cancel memberships!!

LA Fitness tells you the "ONLY" way you can cancel your membership is for you to physically go into the gym and they will print off cancellation forms, which you will have to mail out yourself.  I sent my cancellations forms almost 2 weeks prior to having them take out the monthly gym fees. I felt this gave them enough time to cancel at its entirety BUT that didn't happen. I was so aggravated with the run arounds. I finally was able to get names/emails/numbers of individuals at LA Fitness headquarters who can make sure your membership is cancelled.  I do have to say "Orlando Gonzalez" was extremely professional and very cordial. He immediately reassured my memberships would be cancelled AND he would make sure I was reimbursed for the monthly fee they had just taken out.  Here is the information:   Orlando Gonzalez  (949) 255-7277  orlandgog@lafitness.com  and Aylin Medina (pronounced Eileen) (949) 255-7330  aylinm@lafitness.com

    False promises
They just keep stringing you along on everything. The local gym kept saying I would hear soon and that never happened. One e-mail to orlandog@lafitness.com and aylinm@lafitness.com and the cancelation e-mail came right away. Thank you to all the people who posted the info before me

Hello All!  I, too, am having big time trouble cancelling my personal training with LA Fitness.  I had surgery on both hands and obviously cannot work out for a while.  I asked what they needed to cancel my training membership and they told me, I could bring in a doctor's note and it would be cancelled.  I brought first note in, they said there was no date on it and it would have to be at least a minimum of six months in order for them to cancel. I then brought in a second doctor's note that noted I couldn't work out for a minimum of six months, like they requested.  I was told membership would be cancelled.  The next month I see a charge for personal training deducted from my checking account and I called and they said they were trying to call me, but my phone was busy!  Come on!!  I have a cell phone with call waiting!  Anyway, the manager said he couldn't cancel it because corporate said the injury wasn't permanent.  Where in the contract does it say that it has to be a permanent injury?  Anyway, I am so angry with them, I have filed complaints at Better Business Bureau, Consumer Complaints, and anywhere I can.  I am interested in getting a class action lawsuit together and have filed a request on lawyersandsettlements.com if anyone is interested in joining me!  Something has to be done!!  They probably have been getting away with it because nobody has really stood up to them.
