They have sent us a box of toner we did not order!  They are trying to charge us $1361.88 for toner that only costs $122.50.  Luckily I caught it.

I also got a package from them. I'm trying to send it back and they said they will pay for the shipping. I forgot to get their account number for UPS. I'm trying to contact them again but they won't pick up their phone. I dunno what to do.

It's a scam.  They just sent you the package as part of a scam to defraud you.

Why do anything?  Give them 10 days to pick up their package, or you will dispose of it in accordance with postal regulations.

Why would you lift a finger to help them?  They will just use it to further claim you "agreed" to something, maybe a "restocking fee", or maybe that you "ordered" it, returned it, but it arrived "damaged".

Postal regulations state that unordered merchandise is a "gift", and that sending "invoices" for unordered merchandise through the U.S. Mail is prohibited.  The same applies to unordered merchandise sent through common carriers, like UPS.

If you have further problems, file a mail fraud complaint with the U.S. Postal Inspector.

Thank you for the info!  I called the number on the invoice several times and no response.  However, I did reach someone in acct.  They say no problem in returning it, UPS will pick it up from our location in 2-5 business days. I am also a little leary on if returning it will be that simple..we shall see..

Our daycare is going through the very same problems with United Business.  They sent us unordered merchandise our opening week with fake names of persons who ordered the overpriced stuff.  The mess was sent back months ago.  They have called and left numbers to return and no one has yet to answer.  Now a so called investigator is threatening to garnish wages.  WE have turned this company over to our BBB, California Attorney General and Alabama's Attorney General.  The stuff they sent can be purchased at any Dollar Tree for $1.00 NOT $217.99!!!  You all beware.

I was told the same thing, but they don't ever send anyone & wouldn't give me their shipping account number.

Just received an invoice for $686.87 for a toner that normally costs $89 including shipping. I wonder how many companies pay invoices such as this without verifying an order.  I will report to the BBB, the Attorney General's office in CA. and also the printer company.

i cant believe these people have not been prosecuted yet if there have been this many instances that they have scammed people.  Cant anyone out there put a stop to this...its against the law...it recently happened to me last week.  A lady called my place of emploement to inform me that the price on toners had significantly increased but i would not be charged for the increase on my current order.  I informed her that she was speaking to the wrong person as i have nothing to do with ordering any type of supplies.  well the company received a toner monday along with an invoice for $819.00 and worse part is my name is on the invoice saying i ordered it. Of course we are all taught in the professional world to say your name and how may i help you right?  Hopefully my supervisor believes me and i dont lose my job because of this insanity

They targetted our new office manager (it is easy for them to say that the previous person in that position placed the order) and then sent us unsolicited toner followed by mailing us a bill for a hugely overpriced amount.

We turned the matter over to our office of legal affairs.  We have been advised not to respond to the company in any way and should they call us demanding payment, to forward the call to our legal office.

If you are a smaller operation you may wish to do the same thing with whatever legal counsel you have on retainer.

The company did the same thing to us the other day.  They shipped toner to our company and invoiced us for $647.29 when I called back to tell them no one had ordered this item and they were not a preferred vendor of our company the gentleman tried to give me a name of someone at the company who ordered there product, this name happened to be mine! Long story short I told me them to send me a shipping label to ship the product and ifnormed them we will not be paying the invoice.

Absolutely same experiences as ALL of the above!  The last box that arrived, had no address that I recognized and no business name, but still I knew it was them, so i wrote REFUSED in big black marker underlined twice and luckily UPS took it back.  I know they got it because Karl called me to complain that I'd done that and go on about how I still owe some $500 for who knows what from last Fall.  He said my "credit card was denied for the full amount," back in November,  so I still owe the balance !  I figure if I just continue to send their stuff back they can't possibly scam me any further.  However, if it's true what some people on here say - that if you receive it (unsolicited) it's yours no matter what they try to bill you, maybe we should all start keeping their stuff and hurt THEM a little bit in the pocketbook!  You'd think they'd quit sending us free stuff, right...?

I have a good feeling some strange package is coming soon to our church. Somehow they knew what model copier we had, what my contact information and name was, and our church address. They must of somehow gotten the list from our copier service provider who has the maintenance contract on our copier. Who knows, anyway, all I have to do is ignore the package and not even open the invoice? Or should I try to send it back,

    Thanks,

They probably got some call through to someone who just happened to answer the phone, and pretended to be your copier company.

Report fraudulent invoicing or using the U.S. Mail or a common carrier (UPS, FedEx, etc.) in a fraudulent scheme, to the U.S. Postal Inspector.

If you didn't order it, then you have no obligation to buy it, nor are you obligated to do anything else with it, including return it.

Tell them they have 10 days to come get it, after which you will dispose of it in accordance with postal regulations.

If it does arrive, send it back and don't sign for it, but if it is delivered anyway, don't sweat it.  File complaints with FTC, the California AG, and the U.S. Postal Inspector, if they call demanding payment on unordered merchandise.

Same call etc as everyone else from 818-742-6049, I get John...too bad I can't attach the VM because I can get tape for .81 a roll.
It's amazing that they don't get the hint...we've passed this guy back and forth for a year now, it's a record around here (see below).

Oh well...if you want you can call back on his number of 818-785-4574 (Van Nuys) and see if he wants to buy something from you.

If you want it to stop write down this phrase: "Put my number on your don't-call list" unless you use this exact phrase (per FCC regs) they can keep calling.

Or, do what we do when they keep trying...one person take the call a few times and keep putting them  off and ask for a call back in a week or so. After three or fours times suggest they speak to another person and hand off the call to someone else and as the saying goes...rinse and repeat eventually they give up and go away.

Do Not Call list does not apply to business lines.
      That's what they hide behind.

However, using the US Mail or aa common carrier in a fraudulent scheme (shipping and billing for unordered merchandise) is mail fraud, so report it to the US Postal Inspector.

Under postal regulations, unordered merchandise is a "gift" to dispose of as you see fit.  You have no obligation to lift a finger to return it.  If they call about it, tell them you have filed a mail fraud compliant with the US Postal Inspector, and their junk will be held for their pickup for 10 days, after which it will be disposed of in accordance with postal regulations.  They don't pick it up, they abandoned it.

File additional fraud complaints with FTC, your state Attorney General, and the California Attorney General.
