I recently purchased a starter kit for the Chaz Dean Wen product through Guthy-Renker.  The product itself builds up on your hair with continued use and no longer works after a month.  Also, Guthy-Renker does not adequately advertise that upon purchase of the starter kit you are actually comitting to 3 additional months of product delivery and an additional amount charged automatically to your debit/credit card.  It is not clearly stated on the G-R site nor on the Chaz Dean homepage.
Guthy-Renker and Chaz Dean are obviously working together to defraud the consumer marketplace in this situation.

DO NOT ORDER THE WEN PRODUCT OR DO ANY BUSINESS WITH GUTHY-RENKER.

    Great I read this stuff too late.  I ordered but was already charged more than I repeatedly asked the girl if that was ALL I was going to be charged.  I called to stop everything but now I'm concerned I'll be charged. I told the lady that I cannot afford for other payments to be taken out and she said she removed my card number.  Do you think she was lying?  Now I'm really scared.

    Thanks for the last advice, from Lucinda. I was going to contact the federal consumer protection, instead I am going to call the Attorney General's office. Does anyone know the number for the office located in KY?

    Wen didn't work for me, so I returned it at my expense. They, without my permission, sent a second order and charged my credit card over $98. They promised to refund my money when I returned the unwanted product, and that they would send me a postage free return label. It never came. Every time I call they tell me it is on the way, but it never comes and they still have my money.
    Be afraid, be very afraid when dealing with these thugs.
    After the fact I learned that there is a difference between Chaz Dean's web site and Guthy Ranker's
    Use Dean's.

    I learned abut Gunthy Rinker a long time ago and would never order from them again.  EVER!!!!!  If you like the shampoo go to QVC.  Your pick what you want and no hassle.  I love this shampoo.

      I'm not an idiot.  But I did not see that I was committed to buying more products and they would automatically deduct it from my account.  I normally catch that stuff.  I enjoyed their product but that trick turned me off.  I'm sure I can find similiar results with a different brand.  I've definitely learned my lesson.

      They are basically the same company (based in Iowa) that operates the online sales for Proactiv Solution and they too are a SCAM.  I received stuff I NEVER ordered from both companies within a few days of each other.  

      They show billing a credit card number ending in four digits that I do not even have or recognize...they couldn't even spell my name right on the order.  They must have MADE UP the order entirely.  I have my bank and Equifax helping me keep an eye for fraudulent credit card activity but so far nothing is showing.  I also filed an online complaint with the Better Business Bureau for that area (Des Moines, IA)  BIGGEST ONLINE SCAMMERS EVER.  RUN!!

      All of this is true. I ordered the product, and it didn't work out for my hair type. I cancelled within 30 days using their automated system. They still charged me, but never sent out a kit. I called about the charge (I tried to give them time in case they were going to reverse the charge again) and was transferred around for 40 minutes, hung up on, had to call back, etc. Now I have to fill out a form saying that I never received the second kit (which they never sent) and send it back so that I can get my $70 back. The whole process will take weeks. The most annoying part is that I went through the EXACT SAME THING with Proactiv, so I should have known better. I don't think it's the people who work in customer service, I think that it's a (purposeful) computer glitch that they blame on idiot customers. I have a PhD. I'm not an idiot. I wrote down all of the dates and confirmation numbers for cancellations and it meant nothing.

      Poor record keeping system and can't cancel without problems.   Returned product and canceled, told all was ok.   Then got a bill, called and told all was taken care of again.   Repeated this several times with each employee not being able to find what was done before.   Now have gotten a bill from a collections agency.  

      Would not start with this product, or company unless you plan on using and paying for it the rest of your life.

          delilah, you sound ridiculous. How are you going to call the police on someone posting on the internet? What has C Mcdaniel done illegal? This is an online forum that reaches people across all borders where anyone can get online. Which police will you call? For which country?

          delilah, it's not very effective to try to intimidate people from free speech online when you don't know what the eff you are talking about.

          If you do work for Guthy-Renker, I hope you will wake up one day and say a prayer to find a job with a respectable company. They suck. And you further justify all the comments online that say that G-R employees are duped (or paid) into making positive comments on threads like this and defending G-R and Chaz "Makin-Millions-By-Being-A-Royal-Jerk" Dean.

          If you don't work for Guthy-Renker, then you are a liar who is so sucked in by this product and company that you'd waste your time online defending it just like a little puppy dog.

          So, you are either a duped employee who dupes customers or a duped customer who lies. Either way, sad.

      I am a very happy wen hair care and proactiv user. I have been with guthy renker off and on since 2001, only taking time off because of a backstock of product. When ordering off the tv, it does say on the screen about auto home delivery more than once. When ordering online, it tells you before placing your order in bold, normal sized letters. You can place a one time order with the conplany, but it is more expensive if you're not a member, as it should be. On every invoice you receive, it lists exactly what dates you will be billed and the amount, as well as your next shipping date. I'm tired of hearing about this so called "scam" everytime I go to encourage people to try the products, which are great products that actually work once you give them a try. a company shouldn't get a bad name due to a large amount of people who can't seem to actually read about what their buying before they buy it, or do what any responsible adult would do and check out the invoice that comes with a package. the only issue I have ever faced with the company is supply and demand related. products are sometimes backordered for extended periods of time, which again, should say something about how many happy customers they have.
