SST bought my Washington Mutual Card. I already have an account with SSN because they bought my Providian card two years ago. The service is so horrible that as soon as I found out that they took over my WAMU card I paid off the balance.

A month later I received a statement with a $4.00 finance charge. I couldn't believe it. I called them and they explained that the finance charge was back-billed!? The guy threatened to send my account to collections if I don't pay. What make this situation ridiculous is that if I pay online, their online system doesn't except payments that are less than $5.00. If I agree to pay by phone they charge $10.00 to do it.

The only option I have is to mail them this payment that I don't think I even legally owe. Oh, and one more ridiculous thing, if you pay online more than $200, they will hold your payment before crediting your account for 10 days!

Their customer service is rude and it's hard to get to anyone there. The best way to get to SST is to call 1-800-388-1806 and choose the option that says your card was stolen. They will get to right away. Then ask for a transfer to customer service.

For every one else whose account was transfered to SST Card Services Run from this company. Close your account. Don't activate your new card, and just stay away from this dirty company.

Everyone on here is rediculous!!! U just don't want to pay your bills. I have an account with them and love them. I pay my bills though and get so tired of people trying to get out of what they owe!!! Hello if u have a credit card balance and u don't have a 0% apr then of course your balance will keep going up unless u pay every month and include any extra that u have earned in interest. I swear people should have to take a common sense class before getting a credit card. If u only paid back what you spent how would credit card companies ever make money. A credit card is no different than a loan. Read your terms and agreements. And don't say " no one ever reads the fine print" cause we do and if you didn't you deserve to pay every cent they can get out of you just for being such an ignorant person.

I have to agree with Bill's posting on 16 Dec 2008. I to had a Providian CC and it to was sole to SST. I religiously pay my bill and have had no problems ever. One thing that needs to be said and this is true with any credit card. I always pay more than the amount due and the balance does consistantly go down. I you pay just the amount due it will take a lifetime to pay it off. All credit card companies are businesses and are there to make money anthey make that by charging interest. EXAMPLE: if your balance is $3000 with an interest rate let's say 26% your interest would be some where between $70 and $75 with a minimum payment of about $90. That means that your balance would only be reduced like $15. At that rate paying off the balance will take forever. So pay on time and pay more than what is due. IT WORKS!

This company is ridiulous. Usually, I would agree with Bill (above) but this time I just cannot. In efforts to clean up my credit, I cancelled this card over a year ago and ALWAYS pay more than the min due, and continue to get unexplained charges. I encountered the "cash advance" mystery too. I have copies of every statement since I got the card. When I strated to notice the cash advance fee, I called. There has never been a cash advance or a balance transfer made. I was told that some stores charge it that way bla bla..but the account had already been closed a year and no new charges when it started. Best I can see, they just split the balance and started to charge part of it as a cash advance. This allows them to charge the "fee" that is in fact in your card agreement. It is illegal and I refuse to pay the fees. It is not because I don't want to pay my bills. If that were the case, I wouldn't complain..I just wouldn't pay. (That makes the comment about "people just not wanting to pay their bills" ridiculous to me..fact of the matter is, no one has the right to force you to pay for something you aren't responsible for) I assume they do not do it to everyone or they would be too easly found out. If they do it to enough people though, and in some way try to round about explain it, at 5.00/mo for enough people, that's a hefty profit. Honestly, most people don't feel like reading the fine print in the agreement, and assume all unrecognizable charges are legit, so they pay. It's wrong to do this to people. It would be like me charging everyone 5.00/mo to drive past my house..if you don't pay..I egg your car.If I live on a busy street, I can have a decent amount of free money. That is how bogus this is. Suppose I said to you that you just didn't want to man up to your responsibility and pay the drive past my house fee to keep me from throwing eggs at your car. Plenty of people pay the fee to me on time and have a clean car..so what's your problem? I deserve this fee because you drive past my house. Plain and simple right?
No. There is an honest way to make money (charging finance charges that have been clearly explained) and a dishonest way (charging fees without explaination and refusing to answer consumer inquiries). Now, they say I cann't get further explaination for the fees without paying $13.50 to get copies of all my statements and trying to recognize the origination of the charges. Perhaps, I have the wrong copies of stmts, you know, the ones they sent me.

I've noticed they quit sending me a bill.  For about the past 3 months.  I pay religiously every 2 weeks, but it's still fishy.

this company sucks!!!! I want to agree with the person who said just more than the min. payment and don't be late....here's the problem...I have never been late up until I moved, I was 1 day late, I never received my statement, & well overlooked it by one day, now, not only are they charging me a 40.00 late fee, but now they are charging me for being over my max !!! After looking over my statements from the last 2 years, they have frequently overcharged my account....This never would have happened with Providian....and I am not trying to get out of paying my debt, but my original card started at 9% and it has steadily increased to 30%!!!!

I had a Providian card that was sold to WaMu, then to SST. I paid off my card and closed the account, apparently as this was happening. My credit report for the last 3 years has showed that I owe Providian, WaMu, and SST EACH $1,750.00. When I contacted WaMu/Providian, they told me that they could not remove it since the account has been sold, but did send me a letter to show new creditors and for me to send to the credit bureaus. When I tried to contact SST, they told me that there was nothing that they could do because they do not have an account for me. There is an account number listed on my credit report, but they said there is no such account in their system anywhere. They refused to send me a letter as WaMu did. I have disputed it with the bureaus over a year ago now, but it is still sitting on my credit. Isn't there something that can be done about these people?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Sorry Bill, but I think that the "ignorant" person is you. Do you honestly believe that just because YOU don't have any problems with a company that they never screw anything up? All of these people complaining about different situations and you think they are all just trying to get out of paying their bills? Really? What about those who have CLOSED accounts that months later start getting charges for no apparent reason? I have worked for AMEX for several years before the massive lay offs that took place this spring. You are right that there are people out there who just don't understand, or are trying to get away with something... but a good portion of the time, COMPANIES JUST SCREW UP. Even seemingly good companies. They make bad judgment calls and choices on behalf of their customers... companies are only as good as the people running them. And those people... they have flaws too... just like the rest of us. Maybe you shouldn't make post calling people names if you don't know their situations.

While I do NOT agree with Bill, your post could potentially be helpful for most. In reality the best thing anyone can do for themselves or their credit is to carry two credit cards from different companies. Use one for all of your normal reoccurring charges, like food, gas, utilities, etc... and one for large unexpected charges that you can not pay off right away. The card that you pay all of your regular bills on, pay in full EVERY month. Make sure that if you do keep another card for large expenses that it is one with a low APR. and don't just keep bouncing the balance around from card to card with the 0% balance transfer offers on new cards. Opening and closing multiple accounts will reek havoc on your credit eventually. Be sure that the card you use for normal expenses has a good rewards program. My personal advise is to use a card that gives you points that can be transferred 1 for 1 into a frequent flier account or at least has a good ratio for flight redemption. That way you are not limited to travel but it is still a good option. You would be surprised what you can use points for now, almost anything you could want.

This company ripped me off.  They changed my payment in the middle of the term with no notice or even a reason.  I have "late charges" but they refuse to tell me what they are for.  The are trying to rip me off for $69.00 and they refuse to let me talk on speakerphone or record.

I requested copies of the transaction history and they refuse to send them?  This is like living in Russia.  How did these companies get to be so powerful?  Blame your "leaders" it was baked into this "cake" they prepared for us called the CRASH.

Hi my car loan got sold to these people. The only way I found out is off the internet. I pay my car payment every month. No one told me that the loan on my truck got closed and sold. The next thing I knew the repa man was knocking on my door. This company wouldn't even give me there address so I could get them a payment. I have never been treated so unfairly and poor in my life. I definately am going to report them to the Attorney General.

My auto loan was sold to them, and thats when hell on earth ensued. They absolutely do engage in illegal billing practices, giving (inventing) late fees, where i had to show the date i paid, and then the date my BANK can prove the payment went through to them, versus the day they CLAIM they got payment. So armed with the PROOF of my bank, I was able to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and FORCE THEM to return those late fees. But they of course begin doing it again immediately.

They are a disgrace, and should be shut down. EVERYONE ON HERE MUST go to the better business bureau and PROVE they are unfit for business by documenting their lies, the changing of stories they do (In one call, they changed the story FOUR times about what the 'additional fees' were for!)

When they tell you, "Sir, it doesnt matter when your bank says payment is mad, your loan is with us" let them know the Better Business Bureau does not see it that way. I OVERTURNED THEIR DISGUSTING illegal practices, and you should be CERTAIN to do the same.

lets start a website called destroysst.com
