Just received a phone call from Kingston Surrey County, Jamaica 876-413-3198. Told I won $2nd place in a sweepstake that I never entered. Was told that entry was automatic because I paid my bills on time. Also was asked what color Mercedes I want since this is the bonus. This is no doubt a complete scam, so when they call me back this afternoon, I will bust their bubble. Just sharing FYI.

    Miss Scammed
I was a bit shocked when I found this page and began reading post from the last few years. This scam has been going on for years and still continues. The person who figures out how to give us control over this problem will become very wealthy from selling their invention.

I had just received several calls from a private number telling me I had won a 2017 mercedes, that I need to go to Walmart to pick up a receipt. It is hugely irritating to me when I'm called "sweetie" from a stranger, and he called me that over and over many times. On his 9th call (the only other time I answered), he said it once again, and I hope I left his ears ringing in agony.

After I hung up on him the first time, he called back 2 more times but I ignored it knowing it was the same "private number" calling. He called again the next morning but I didn't answer because it was "private number" again. I guess he was determined to get through to me because 3 hours later he called again, only this time the caller ID said "unknown" number. I answered. I couldn't believe my ears as he was trying to assure me it wasn't a scam and at the end of that sentence, he said "sweetie".

First of all, if I was winning a new car, why wasn't it a 2018 Mercedes? Second, what official from any sweepstakes would call someone "sweetie", ever? Third, why the heck are we meeting at Walmart? Oh yeah, Walgreens was the alternative, and he knew it was closer to my home. I wasn't taken back by the fact that he knew that. Most of us who live in a city, live within a few miles of either, or both, stores.

After all this happened, I found myself fantasizing about how I could do things differently, should this happen again. I could pretend to go along with him and ask a police officer to escort me to Walmart, and bust the person I was to speak to, which is probably the "fall guy" to the actual scammer who's hidden away somewhere. I could have pretended to go to Walmart and let him think I was there, while still at home just to see what was to happen next. I could go along with everything he was telling me to do, but keep asking him to repeat because I didn't understand, and I mean to the point that he begins to get frustrating and tired of repeating. Say what? No understand!

I must be bored, right? Not really. I just wish there was a clever way to turn the tables or catch these jerks. I feel for those who fall for these scams. Seems like this issue has gotten worse over the years, which tells me it must be paying off for them.

Come on Tech heads! Please, come up with a good way to deal with this problem, especially targeting private or unknown numbers. It's a growing problem that needs to be addressed. Personally, I would prefer it if only the numbers I put on my contact list, were the only calls I can receive. What a lovely thought.

    Robert
So I just spent the last hour, yes hour.  ( I had some free time) with this company as "Robert".  They have called me for the past couple weeks looking for a Robert. I keep telling them Robert does not live here over and over. Tonight I i called John Millar back (  I blocked my number by using *67 before calling)  and rambled politley non aggessivly over and over. Left lota of messages. ( ramble talking about the winnings, ect.) To the point that I get a message that the call has been rejected. There is a Susan Davidson, who called me last week. I used her number to for John. To my surprise John was there. ( of course he hung on me) and yes I did call the number over and over until it to was rejecting calls.
I don't know if this will work but next you get a call from this company  if you have time like me. Block your number by dialING *67 ( the) - number  that called you,  and ask for John Millar, if a guy answers.  Susan Davidson if a women answers. And please let them know politely to call me  "Robert" back.  Robert is patheticly waiting for them to call back.  See how many times you can call befor the call is rejected.  PLEASE I DO NOT IMPLY USING ANY VULGARITY OR HARASSING MANNER.  Maybe they'll get tired of this hoax.  Maybe. But it's a try.

Acquaintances of mine have been scammed by these people, but continue to communicate with them. What’s the end game? How far has this gone with anyone? They communicate via Facebook and text. They are communicating with a woman- her number is from Connecticut.

1-876 is a Jamaican exchange...they also call with "call from UNavailable"..best thing to do is just hang up ... they will tell you what you want to hear, give you the impression that they are interested in you...anything to keep you talking, and let your guard down, and give them more of your personal info...they also use stateside phone # s.  and other "throw away" # s, that you can call back, never get an answer...if you get a call form a # you don't recognize, let it ring til it stops, see if they will leave a voice mail, then check them out on internet!  My story is too long, but because I did not listen to my friends, thought I was smarter than them, I have lost my wife's confidence, had to file bankruptcy, lost my house, and my credit score has gone down the tubes,  not to mention the stress and heartache that comes with it!  We must stop this greedy , selfish, uncompassionate assault on older people whose main income, like small, a fixed income, but also on others, too.. By the way, do not give out any personal info!!! even if you don't have much money, they will use your personal info to open checking accts, buy things, etc, and even sell your info on the black market!

I got a call from Richard Mark staying I won 6.9 million dollars in the mega million sweepstakes. I told him I believe it when I see it. He never asked me for money but did give me a password and said if I’m asked  and I can’t give it someone else would win it. Told me I was going to have a good Christmas. I said yes if it’s real. But it sounds like a scam to me. He again said it was real. I said when you and your security walk up with the check I would believe it and not until then and hung up

I received a call today saying I won 5.5 million dollars and a new Mercedes Benz.  He said he sent me mail and phoned but couldn't get through.  The funny thing is I have entered many many sweepstakes.  He did not ask for any money and he asked I wanted to get the money privately or publicly.  He give me his phone number and badge number.  It was hard to hear him because my landline phone is not working right., I cannot hear the other side many times...What do you people think???

Got a call from James Wallace. I won 32million dollars a 2023 Benz and 7,000 a week for life. These same people call so often I can tell them what they are  going to say. You can't really block them because they just use a different number. If it sounds too good to be true it is.

My caller has been calling me at least once on every week since the first of February. His name is Michael Edwards phone 1 876 545 9870  and also 1 530 882 2260. He says I have won the MegaMillion and to get the money I need to buy a Vanilla Visa gift card and give him the PIN # to pay taxes and I will be getting 5,000 a month for life plus a white BMW 2022. He gave me a claim number and the check number. I have not bought the Visa card or given him anything, but he has not given up and still calls. Maybe I should tell him he has been recorded and is being recorded again the next time he calls?? I told him I would not pay to get money.
