We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

Thk U thk u thk u for still attending to this your site!  the moral support is priceless.  I did not mention Tampa FL because some posts' content had me paranoid to reveal that. Our location seems to have their bases covered pretty well, like a 3-day cancel policy; they will & do call back, they actually have fair to good customer service but everything in our contract is all on their side.  We've bought 2 items and that's it. One was in their showroom and the other arrived within 3 or 4 weeks.  Standard S&H fee plus taxes.  That ordered item we later saw online, free shipping for about $55 less. Our DB location does their homework. They apparently have complied with the rules and restriction laws (as far as I know). So, so disgusted we spent so much money for DB membrshp without doing our homewk.  stupid stupid stupid.  oh well..Since I haven't put all my info together for the letter to them yet I certainly don't want the owner to have a heads up..  I'm on the war path.  so to speak..  It's going to take tons of work to search for prices, proofs and comparisons to DB's offers but I hope to try.... sorry so long-winded, goodnight..

Thanks Trudy for looking out for the site & hopefully getting rid of the spam. Yes, it's annoying and off topic.

    HI ROGER!!
IT'S NICE TO SEE YOU STILL STICKING IT OUT HERE!!!!!!
IT'S A MUCH TOUGHER BATTLE THAN I THOUGHT, PEOPLE DO NOT SEEN TO BE AS UNITED AS I HAD HOPED, BUT THAT ISN'T A GOOD ENOUGH REASON TO STOP US!!!!!

I SWEAR THAT I JUST SAW A RESPONSE FROM YOU, BUT IT APPEARS THAT IT GOT ERASED WITH THE ALL OF THE SPAM SCAM,
I KEPT REPORTING IT, LIKE I HAVE WITH OTHER HORRIBLE COMMENTS IN THE PAST,
& am very happy to say, that this site is still going strong,
& the owner of this site is so powerful
& I am so greatful for the power that the site owner has allowed us,
it is so very valuable, that is why I try to help strangers if I can,
where ever I am, if I can...
it's a small world & I may have helped the owner, somewhere on my travels,
that's my philosophy input for the month........

Anyway, keep up the good work, Roger!!!!!!!!!!
    talk to you soon........

    Go Trudy!!
You continue to impress me with your generosity in helping others. I know people might not be seemingly united, however, this is a big world wide web! It seems there are a few that keep coming back and commenting. Really, more people read than comment, so I KNOW we are making a BIG impact! I am sure people are listening to their friends, relatives and co-workers horror stories. Remember that if you tell two friends and I tell two friends and so on, exponentially I believe we will win this fight. DB is going down in the end. I am so thankful for this website and truly appreciate the fact that DB hasn't bought them out or threatened to sue.

Thanks for the suggestion to report. I did the same as well everywhere I saw that SPAM. I also sent a message on the Contact Us portion of the site menu. I am very pleased that they took all of the information that wasn't on topic off. I will follow-up with a thank you.

You are truly a special person Trudy and I (along with many) are grateful for your service to this community. Keep up the OUTSTANDING work!!! You are the BEST!

Direct Buy verbally misrepresented what they could do for me. I was very misled with the product they were selling. I have not been able to access vendors, have had trouble navigating their web, the prices have not been the lowest. I wasted about $3900. I asked for a refund and was told that it will NEVER happen, because I signed on the dotted line. I tried to resolve this and was insulted by a team member their.

Does anyone have any information on the current financial health of Directbuy?  I figured they would have been out of business by now.  They still have to sell enough memberships to keep paying their leases and employees.

I believe the Tampa FL store is thriving.  the owner seems to have all his bases covered.  they carry hundreds and hundreds of items.  I've purchased two items but found Sears had the same thing $3 more but we chould p/u there not the warehouse of DB.  we save S/H on that item because it was in showrm.  Second purchase came within 3 - 4 weeks but we found the same item online cheaper than DB.  Does anyone in Tampa want to picket tAMPA'S  store one SAT a.m. when they schedule their presentations?? I think that's the way to go here, finding price comparisons and writing the ltrs, etc isn't my forte'.  We were duped sept '09.  I need resolution.. Out $5,490!

If I were anywhere near Florida, I'd be out there with you picketing. I am truly hoping for a class action settlement. You should call the toll free numbers and talk to an attorney. It doesn't cost us anything, they do the work and when the case is settled, we all get paid back for our misery. All of these attorneys know DB is a scam and that's why they "work for free" until the case is settled in our favor. Getting our money back is important. Be careful with the picketing, I wouldn't want you to get arrested. I believe if you are on public property (on a sidewalk near DB), they can't touch you as it is "freedom of speech". Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

You do need to be on public property.  And you need to be careful of libel.  However, you can still state facts... such as "DirectBuy:  Defendant in several class action suits."  Or "Research DirectBuy on Internet before going to Open House."

    HI,
I'd love to see your letter. Can you post it? Or is there a url site on which we can find it?
We paid in full! A friend just alerted me--and wow--are we sorry. Should have walked away when the high pressure began.

    TRUDY
    HI DUPED2
ALWAYS check with the police before picketing, the rules are very specific
AS FAR AS I KNOW, the only people allowed to picket are the actual people who got scammed......ask police for those details
REMEMBER,  DB IS SCUM & THEY WILL PROBABLY BE VIDEO TAPING YOU,
& THEY WILL TRY TO PROVOKE YOU INTO DOING SOMETHING ILLEGAL
SO THEY CAN CRY INNOCENCE!!!!!!!!NOTHING SURPRISES ME WITH DB ANYMORE
REMEMBER THAT THEY ROBBED YOU,SO how willing do you think that they will be to cooperate???????????

This is not to discourage you from picketing, but to make sure that you
are both physically & emotionally prepared to stick it out,

REFER to JIM PICKETER HERE ON P. 1 (Near the bottom of the page)
    HE WAS SUCCESSFUL!!!!!!
HE send Registered Mail First & after it was ignored, he went to picket with a copy of his letter, to prove to DB & to Police, that he was the victim,

so dress for the weather, fully charged cell phone, comfortable shoes,
water to sip & a strong willed mind,
GOOD LUCK, & DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!

don't plan to give up, No Way.. Sad to say that this is overwhelmingly tedious work, info, lots to read, what to do, what not to do, ad nauseum... but in my case, need money back bad.  ... Not robbed but certainly DUPED. Need to stategize to rest my case...tired.  Need more time and energy to fight DB's racket.  Most people who throw in the towel don't have the time or stamina to buck DB.  Some people bite the bullet and move on. thx for info & advice..  I may need a lawyer, that and/or a miracle. (preferably the miracle as I do believe)

Don't give up.  That's what they are hoping you will do.  Make life miserable for them and don't stop until you got your hard earned money back!

    duped2-
Get up off the mat and fight, fight, FIGHT! I know it takes time & paitence, however, in the end, it's total worth it. If we don't stand together, DB will continue to wear the general public down and more people will be duped. Did you call any of the class action attorneys we have listed? If they get "passionate" class members who want "action" they are more than willing to get in there to do the fighting for us. If you get your own attorney, it's just more $$ that you will need to pay up front with no guarantees. This is why Trudy and I are trying to get people to go the Class Action Lawsuit route. By joining a class (or classes), we don't have to pay anything, ever. The attorney's fees are part of the settlement they get when the sue DB. There is power in numbers. All of the attorneys can be reached toll-free (no long distance charges on your phone bill) or you can also email them & tell your story. We all need our money back from that scummy company. Keep batting away.....we're all going to hit that homerun & get our membership money (plus damages) back someday. I am truly sure of that. Keep warning everyone you know to stay away from DB!

    Don't give up.

Yep, spoke with two lawyer ofcs referenced on this site.  Craig Morgan, he's already filed law suit & just likes to read & check out our complaints, does not email back.   the class action suits can take years to settle...I was told. the suit in Indiana is for a DB that was skimming the top from rebate merchandise.  has nothing to do with my membership fee.  Izard or Izord lawfirm (there are way too many pages on this site to look back into) whatever the name  ---Spoke with that law firm, she said when and if the suit is settled we may get something back.  nothing again to do with our 'sign up dues'.  I need to  conduct a lot of d_ _n paperwork, homework, research, etc. and try to recoup some monies.  what a pain! will stay posted as this is still fresh ... man, why did we sign up!  Bad Kharma

if and when I do 'picket' & most likely all alone or if can talk hub into it, -not likely-, it'll be on the main highway on a Sat morn before the presentation speel.  other than that idea, I can slide around the showroom joint and try to connect with other duped members who MAY have the time & motivation to join me.  we'll see +

Try contacting your local media, especially a tv news consumer advocate. Also try your state Attorney General & local government. If you have a local newspaper or popular blog, please try to post or write an op ed piece about your DB experience. You can reference this site to show that you are definitely not alone in being "duped". We're all in the same boat. Action is much better than being silent. It may take years to get our money back, however, I will continue to fight for this cause in knowing that justice prevails and I believe DB will get their just due in the end. A lot of people just get tired and frustrated. Please continue to let everyone know that DB is a scam and you'll never get the savings they promise in the advertising. We may be the flies biting the horse's patoot, but if enough of us band together, we can bring them down. Good luck.

good plan, but try and find a  tv station that does not put ad revenue  in front of  integrity.

a good example is all the bogus products   on late nite tv  every night.

Too bd  20/20 or 60 minutes does not   feel it is worthwhile  to look into.
