We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

picketing a db store is good, slander is bad. handing out flyers stating the db concept eg: pay upfront for all merchandise inc shipping and handling [all estimated prices with the customer responsible for paying any increases] etc etc will get open house attendees attention for sure. just keep following the yellow brick road [as db would like you to do] or keep follow trudy's advice.

    Mikey-
I know, it's a shame 20/20, Nightline or 60 Minutes won't do a story on this company......I have tried to get them to bite. Perhaps I will try again. They can't get away from all of the shady things they have done to us over the years. They will get it in the end. Thanks for staying up on this site and for warning others to stay away from DB. We need to continue sticking together.

They are pros at sales and have obviously co-erced many into buying into an outrageously high fee for a 'membership' to their exclusive  buying 'club'. yee haw.
It's not at all that glamorous, nor professional when you get in there and learn what goes on and what they're all about.   Most all of us on this site feel so totally taken that we cannot believe we fell for & pd the sign-up fee.  hook, line & sinker.
It put me into shock after we shelled out over $5,000 the day we joined.  I didn't sleep well that night thinking 'what have we done'?  A 3-day cancellation time frame on contract is not enough when you're reeling from a bad decision but still hopeful it'll be worth it.
We NEVER spend so much money without some time to think it over. They don't let you sleep on it.
They lay on the pressure to sign-up and jib the victims by saying what our presenter claimed, "why would you want to pay retail when you can get it here wholesale'.. sounds good huh?  then you have to look through a bunch of old catalogues or search the tiny but voluminous pics on your DB internet site.
I've gone to get help at their showrm with the catalogues then race back home thinking I'll be more comfortable shopping online home but end up putting off their horrible shopping experience altogether.
Showrm has a limited amount of stuff and it's all ritzy pricey glamourous products.  You can get all caught up in the thrill of it all the day of presentation, specially when you want to remodel and update. I'll never spend another dime at DB and Want our MONEY refunded!
SO SO DUPED...dangit  Still plan on doing what I hafta to get refunded.

WoW! I am in the same predicament as some of the others! I want out as well. I have written to The Coporate Ofice at Directbuy and have received no response. I, too, have been threatened to be turned over to a collection agency. Help. Please continue to post information on how to get out!

    Hi
A friend of mine got scammed into this DB stuff, I could not believe they wanted you to pay such exhorbitant prices for a membership to get a discount on items---if you think about it logically it screams SCAM. Well she and her hubby were pressured into it and now of course have huge regrets. For one, they do not give discounts, we both did some remodeling, I just shopped around for our stuff to try and get the best prices. Not only is our kitchen more high end, but we ended up spending way less than they did. In fact we both got the same cabinets and she payed about 20% more. I can't believe that this company is even allowed to operate---they tell such lies. I still see their commercial on tv and after all I've heard, it just amazes me they aren't out of business. I feel real bad for the people that got scammed, I hope they can get their money back.

We dupters need to unite: us Tampians, Tampa FL or Pinellas Co need to get on this site, find other disgruntled members and picket the stores Sat's am, before presentations or threaten to the owner and presenter inside the store of a picket.  I  believe I need to make an effort to talk 1st to the owner.  Then the certified ltrs, threats of picketing and bad publicity.  tv, radio, signs, signs on our vehicles, anything to have our contracts rescinded and obtain full refunds.  Alway go to the last page of this site for current info.  Ck out Trudy and Roger's instructions.  Narrow it down.  Especially prepare paperwk of proof their prices are not cheaper.  We have two so far and I'm going to contact 8 on your Side.  ABC news.  It's a longshot. Also I've gripped on a site called Insider Pages.  I've logged onto it and have made a BAD review.  Go there and gripe about your particular location like OHIO. I'm in Tampa.  Keep trying and thx to this site it will give you the courage & support to recoup the thousands of dollars we were conned out of.... more latah..

Lancaster PA Direct Buy - We canceled within the three business days and DirectBuy will not reverse the charges on the credit card. We're going through the Better Business Bureau with complaints to resolve this, but the company is still not reversing the charges. They say they will reverse the charges if we return our papers and materials, but we did that on the second business day. Seems like they might even have the Better Business Bureau scammed - so it seems like it is resolved to the BBB but it is not. They will have to be dealing with the credit card company who will fight to get the money back too, but I think they do that to keep the money. The idea of a picket and press seems like the way to go.

I believe you.. and I've read that the BBB will not help.  Call your credit card co.  credit union or bank and have them stop payment.  They should be able to benefit you for up to 90 days.  Go for it..!!!  Wish we would have been as smart as you.

[:>) What goes round comes round. Myself, the Dupe, will go about a refund legally.  I don't want my patootie in jail.  BE Smart & stay positive +

Let's go after them, don't let them get away with their shanigans to put money in their pockets.  They can get legitimate jobs like social workers.  Do them some good. LOL

yes, it sounds like your DB is giving you the run-around with the hopes you'll give up.  Your credit card co. or bank will step in and resolve this issue.  Yay -- Oh and please go onto the Insiderpages site and write a brief BAD review...

I've seen many people happy with their program. Y'all are just frightened which is understandable. $5K is a chunk. Instead of getting mad...use their program and save yourself a ton of money.

    Ms. Wooten
After joining DirectBuy I found out at orientation that the prices are misleading.  By the time I pay the freight, handling charges & taxes, I would have come out ahead buying retail!  I sent DirectBuy a certified letter stating this fact and that I didn't want to be a member of this club.  They have ignored my request and tell me that my first installment is still due!  I refuse to pay these crooks!  How can I get in on the class action lawsuit?

I joined in July 2010, sent them a certified letter within a week that I didn't want the membership.  I did pay $500.00 deposit and asked that it be returned.  I am in WPB, FL.  I was advised that I cannot end my membership and my first installment is still due in August!  Please help, I am a single mother who though she could save some money on things around the house, boy was I wrong!
