We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

    Debbie M, Very interesting...we joined three months ago and have NEVER ever recieved anything like that. Took us 6 weeks to get a valid password to access their site....kept all the e-mails with customer service so prove we had no access for WAY WAY past the 3 day option to cancel.

    i joined Saturday August 28th 2010, i am freaking out and want to cancel, my wife and i went in for "an hour and a half" presentation and left 5 hours later because i wouldn't sign and i was uncomfortable, by the end i was shaking hands with these people and i can't sleep, i feel like an idiot, it is now 4:55 in the morning Sunday and i sent en email to the Direct buy email given on the franchisee's card and i will try to put together a registered letter based on what i have read on your board, the local office is not open until tuesday(saturday signed, sunday, monday, tuesday...is that 3 days or 4, i watched a CBC marketplace watch where there is or will be a 3 day cooling period.

    i am in Ontario, my wife and i are fighting about this, i can't sleep, and frankly we can't afford this $5000 membership

    I actually walked out at one point but my wife stayed, the salesman came out and said my wife was pissed that i didn't sign the agreement or support her

    I need out of this deal, i will work it out with my wife later

    I need more advice and nobody on here wants to answer my questions. Aren't you guys suppossed to be a support system. I love to get my money back too. I've sent a certified letter, sent my complaints to the news stations and the consumer complaint agency. I need to know where to go from here because this doesn't seem to be working. Someone PLEASE get b ack to me on what else to do!!!!!!!!

    I sent my Registered letter after about 4 months of non-stop run around,
    trying to get "full" written prices for exterior doors for my home,
    mfr. & installers do not work together
    sent to mfr. during the day (needed car to go there)
    told to bring my own peep hole to the mfr.
     "     pick a door lock & handle from a diff't mfr.
    tHERE was NO selection, o/s & disc. lists in the db warehouse.......
    IT WAS INSANE!!!!!!!!!!

    So I sent REg. explained my experience, asked for RESCISION

    acc. to Consumer protection act Ontario,, 2002,
    -promised EXCESS SAVINGS, THAT DO NOT EXIST
    (inc. my written proof of cheaper price from other Retailer)
    -undue pressure to join
    -contract written biased in favour of db
    'NO REFUNDS, NO CANCEL is  demanding that I give up my rights to complain
    -misrepresentation, main details of contract missing, If main details were inc.,...would not have joined....

    I rec'd response immed., suggesting that I contact db to discuss issues
    *********************
    I responded with a FAX, stating that anything to discuss must be done
    ONLY IN WRITING

    I REC'D Reg., with full refund immed.

    Hi Trudy!

    Okay my bad I didn't see your response. I'm just annoyed with the crap that I have to go through just to get my money back. I guess I 'll work on price comparisons and send it to DB. I'll keep trying to get a pro bono lawyer. You know DB said if the retail prices are cheaper that they would work something out with the manufacturer or corporate to lower price. I don't believe that. I hope this works because if don't I will have to take some other plan of action.

    Duh!!! so i am stupid, well i feel stupid for sure but people go in thinking one thing and come out with something different, i feel bad for the other people, maybe older people who feel that they got taken, don't know what to do and aren't able to get on websites like this and get help

    Trudy is helping me, i sent a registered letter(actually sent 2), i emailed the office, i actually just got off the phone with jacki who is the member relations person with corporate head office, i have spoken to the credit card company about the money, i have asked the local police about my rights to picket the store if they won't rescind my membership, i have been stressed out over the last few days because i was put in a corner, fighting with my wife and having the snake shrming salesman and the coolest sweetest franchise owner telling me that i would be making my wife happy and that i would be making the greatest decision for the future, it's tricky, its kinda weird really, you think you know that you will never make a stupid mistake that seems so blatantly obvious but you do, people should have the right to correct those mistakes, it's not like i bought the membership, spent $10000, only saved $2000 and lost $3000, i don't want to go any further with them, i don't wish any particular ill will to them or their families or business, i just don't have the money to put into their business and i want out, i wish i did the research before, i usually do, but i didn't, so i should get scewed for $5000, i signed, i left and an hour later i want out, i should be able to change my mind

    I also want to share my recent experience with Directbuy in Thousand Oaks.

    We had received an invitation to go to Direct buy of Ventura and check out their warehouse and enjoy walking around their showroom. We received over 5 calls to confirm our restricted appointment. I been reminded with every phone calls that we are not allowed to take any children or anyone else expect my spouse. We got there and they took us to a long lasting meeting about how great is Directbuy and what a great saving and they have supper friendly staff. 3 hours of the same info. Then when the meeting was over they told us that we can “enjoy” 30 days pass. Then a reparative took us to dinning area and had a form ready with our name on it. She asked us what we do for life, if we have any children or not and if we are going to have any in future and why and after 30 minutes she told us that what a great idea to join they club right now. Then we told her we need to think about it before we sign up and write a check for $4000 and we like to compare prices while we are there to make sure. She start arguing that it really depends on the model you can’t really tell the difference right now and we need to have the barcode … Then she became very aggressive, her face changed and told us that she’ll only let us compare if we promise to sign up with her right now and if not we better leave. She just left the table and looked away. What a non- friendly, rude staff…. I will write this review to as many as review website for people to know

    at first i was depressed, sick in my stomach and really really just stunned, then i started educating myself and i now i feel a little hopefull

    i have sent a registered letter within the first day or so asking to rescind my agreement,i have contacted a lawyer referral service, contacted coporate head office member relations and i am waiting for a response from the local franchise where i bought the agreement, i will let all of you know if i get my money back, if i don't i have a huge list of things still to do including filling a complaint with consumers services, hiring a lawyer, going to the newspaper, getting a sign on my car that says i was ripped off by direct buy and that billboard idea is a good one

    we all need to raise up our voices and warn people, to those who are members, bought some stuff and saved some money, congrats, good for you and i am happy for you, for the others, this is a sickening feeling and i hope we all get the desired results, to Trudy...Thank you

    i want this message to get to Trudy and anyone else out there, it is shayne here in Barrie Ontario, i don't want to jinx this but i did what Trudy said, i wrote a letter and sent it out registered mail, but before i did that i sent an email to the members services department asking to rescind the agreement and i actually talked to the members services at corporate head office in the US, well i got a response...the franchise owner wants to meet to "resolve" the issue, i want to go but i am nervous if that even makes sense, i guess i have to go but when i responded i told here we could meet if she would be prepared to let me out of the agreement and reverse the charges on my credit card, i will keep everyone up to date.

    has anyone ever tried to make the shopping experience a bad one to get them to remove them from the member list instead of cancelling the agreement, i just thought if i can't get out of the deal, i will go and shop for hours on end never buying anything but wasting there people's time and maybe telling potential future clients about my real life experience, i won't lie or say anything that would get me arrested or sued but just let the cat out of the bag on their policies and fees to potential clients, has anyone ever tried that???

     My Wife and I got scammed into the whole Sign now or forever loose your opportunity to shop with us, on Aug 25th. around 10pm. (actually signed with ast. manager because he kept telling us we can cancel it if we wanted and how it wouldnt show up on credit) They closed at 8 but stayed late trying to convince us to sign up. We were reluctant to sign because right now we are in the middle of closing on a home. They told us over and over how they wouldnt run our credit until Oct (we are set to close in Sept.) and how nothing will show up on our credit report/debt to income ratio so nothing would show up against our chances of getting our home because they said it was in house financing. They even went as far as to NOT TAKE DOWN OUR SS#'s. So being so exhausted and overwhelmed, we signed and left. Iv'e read up on the internet about people getting scammed and with having such a bad feeling about it the whole time I tried canceling today Aug 30th and they said no canceling. My wife called back and some girl said we had 3 days or we had to talk to the manager. We went to Direct Buy and the girl then stated there is no 3 day cancelation time and how the Ast. manager was gone for the day, nor was there any cancelation.

    My Question would be, Without having our social security numbers nor a copy of my photo ID, how can they finance us? or even pull our credit? Would you happen to know if we are basically gonna be out of a home now? They also said They were in house finance and looking at the contract its actually Versa Finance company.

       I will answer all your questions in time. I just want to say a huge thank you to you and Roger for now. I have written on this site under two different names as I am convinced that DB is watching. Let me just say...I've taken things really slow getting ALL my ducks in a row very meticulously! I've started the "ball rolling" s per the required process in my state. I will let everyone know how things work out and I will post many things when able...including still pics from video's shot, documents, etc......
       No one should underestimate  a really pissed off DB member!

    forgot to let u know but we live in Texas.
    Today we wrote out a 3 page letter at the BBB and we contacted the 3 credit report companies to put out an alert for credit checks, if they havent already done so, plus we put a merchant hold on DB with the credit card we used. We also contacted the FTC   (federal trade commision)?  for identity theft if they somehow obtained our SS# and they couldnt not help us because of our contract. I contacted Coporate office and they gave me the 3 owners names of the DB we went to in Coppell, TX.  Are they the ones we should address a letter too? I know you said you wrote out a letter on page 20 some.... but I am unable to find a letter. any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks so much for taking the time to list all of the DB vendors. This must be something new or only in your area because I don't ever remember getting this information when we joined.

    DB hurting a lot of people by selling their worthless "memberships" We all need to continue sticking together and shining the light on this company. Hopefully, we will be able to put them out of business or at the very least bring them to their knees.

    Thanks so much for sharing your story & posting the information on other websites. It's a collective effort to put DirectBuy in their place. They are very rude whenever you start asking questions or seem like you don't want to purchase their membership right there on the spot. They will ridicule, shame and make you feel worthless unless you pay up. It's really abusive and they need to be stopped. I can't wait for someone to take a hidden camera in to their so-called "Open House" Only time will tell....Thanks for warning others. I am so glad you didn't join.
