We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

not to mention their excellent customer service (for the most part), flexible return/refund policies, and no binding contracts or high-pressure sales pitch. Walmart would never tell you that if you don't buy this lawn chair right now, you can't return to the store for 7 years.

Just think about it people, if everyone in the neighborhood went to these pitches and refused, DB would have banned their own potential customers for 7 years. That doesn't seem very professional to me.

    DB HAS A 3 DAY COOLING-0FF PERIOD
    DIRECTBUY DOES--DOES--DOES---DOES----HAVE A 3 DAY COOLING-OFF PERIOD!!!!!!

    DIRECTBUY DOES!!!DOES!! DOES!! HAVE A 3 DAY-COOLING OFF PERIOD
DB 3 DAY COOLING-OFF PERIOD IS...IS...IS... DB'S OWN CORP. POLICY!!!!!!!!!
(It has nothing to do with the law (...you signed on their premises...)
The missinterpretation of the law...does not have merit

DIRECTBUY DOES NOT CARE TO INCLUDE IT IN THE CONTRACT/
WHEN THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH IT... by the time you find the references,
    the cooling-off time has run out...Brilliant scheme/scam...

IF YOUR Contract DOES NOT INC. IT...
IT IS AN ILLEGAL, OUT-OF-DATE, OBSOLETE, CONTRACT...

...db depends on you to missinterpret the
Consumer Protection Act/Unfair TradePractice Act (some Acts inc.both Titles)
the Gov't Consumer protection Bureaus do not care to understand the details...& CONSISTENTLY GIVE THE WRONG ANSWER...it seems, on purpose)
...to many people have shares/investments in db...biased responses...

You just don't know how bad I want all of you to be right.  I want this whole Direct Buy thing to be over with and far behind me.

We have a local resource guide called the Better Business Bureau of North Alabam 2010 Resource Guide and Accredited Business Directory.  The Following BBB Tip is titled "Understanding the Cooling Off Rule".  I'm going to type it out word for word.

Although the three-day "Cooling Off" rule has been in effect for years, your Better Business Bureau finds that many consumers are still confused about their rights.  Here is a reminder of where and when this rule applies.

Under the Federal Treade Commission's "Cooling Off" Rule, you have three business days to cancel any purchase of $25.00 or more that you made in your home or somewhere other than the seller's usual place of business such as a rented hotel room.  The "Cooling Off" Rule also provides protection for consumers who purchase items at a product party given in a private home.

However, as with every rule there are exceptions.  The "Cooling Off" Rule does not apply to: sales made at the sellers usual place of business; sales made totally by mail or phone; sales for real estate, insurance or securities; and sales for emergency home repairs.  The Rule does not apply with sales that begin as a retail transaction at a business establishment and are completed with the signing of a contract in your home.  For instance, ordering carpet at a store and signing the contract when someone comes to your home to measure floor space.  Also if you purchase a vehicle or other item at a tent sale, even though it may be held away from the sellers normal place of business, the rule will not apply.

In cases where the Rule does apply, the seller must give you the proper cancellation forms along with any contract or receipt pertaining to the sale.  The date of the sale should be noted on the cancellation form, which must read in part, "You may cancel this transaction without any penalty or obligation, within three business days from the above date."

If you decide to cancel the sale, sign and date the cancellation form.  Mail or deliver a copy to the address given for cancellation anytime before midnight of the third business day after the date of the contract.  Also, keep a copy for your personal records.  Since proof of the date you mailed the cancellation form to the company is important, send it from the post office via certified mail with a return receipt requested.  You do not need to give a reason for the cancellation.

To avoid having to cancel a purchase, be sure to completely read and understand the contract before you sign on the dotted line.

The next article is titled "What Does It Mean To Be A BBB Accredited Business?"  I'm not going to type all of this one, just a couple certain parts.

I was also duped into a contract with Best Buy.  I was allow to pay a down payment with a credit card, and i assumed I could continue my payments that way.  After receiving my papers I found out that was not the case. My contract was evidently sold to a finance company.  I was later told that they could not receive any payments from the credit card I used to make my Down Payment.  I there any way out of this mess?  Can I break this contract? I am not seeking any refunds, I chalk that up to my ignorance, and will it in the future.  Read every line in any contracts, and don't be duped by high pressure, smooth talking salespersons.

    I need help!

My wife and I as well got scammed into this costly program and have yet to find any products we're interested in buying being much of a deal through them. I'm not sure if we can recieve the $600 we've already put in but believe with the help of this website and hopefully the class action law suit ive found on the abington Cole site that we may atleast be able to stop payin those rip off artist. To think all we heard was you'll save $6000 a year through some magical $500 a month savings through our club membership we dont even spend that much per month on tvs, furniture, etc. I'm truly glad I found you and hope to get some resolution.

"trudy", stick to your recommendations for getting refunds, your advice to spend time and money to register a company to gain access to an open house is laughable at best. i think your fleeting fame here has gone to your head. being a know it all is not flattering.
