We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

Mastercard. Right now the credit card company doesn't want anything from us. If they need to sue DB, they will need copies of the cancellation form, PO receipt showing the date mailed and the receipt showing that DB signed for it.

The credit card co. said that if DB doesn't want to honor our recission, they can try to sue us, but the burden of proof will be on them to show that we didn't cancel within 72 hr. Since we have all the documentation, they don't stand a chance and if DB initates it, then they will be responsible for our legal fees.

My husband and I joined Direct Buy, ordered our kitchen through them. The cabinets are fine but the installation is horrible, he just hurried and was very sloppy, had to come out 2 more times, still have problems which I will try and get them to rectify, if you ever could get through to their phone which is never. Same yourself heartbreak and never, even join Direct Buy, spread the word

'trudy', stop giving these nice people false hope with your rambling on. the db contract is airtight and has been for over 30 years.

any refund of membership dues and cancellation of memberships is purely the mood of the day by the db owner and has nothing to do with your 'expert' advice.

all class action lawsuits are for the return of monies to db members that were kept by db owners that were received from manufacturers and distributors in the form of rebates and early cash pay discounts.

none of the lawsuits are aimed at getting memberships cancelled and membership monies returned.

    Have a question for Alphie.

I didn't bother reading all your posts, just a few where you started from page 57.  Back then you were asking for a contract, stated you've seen parts of a managers book, walked in off the street to a Direct Buy just to see if you could get in, and even offered to tape an open house.

If you are so sure you can help us by getting access to a contract, why don't you just purchase a membership and see if you can get yourself out of it?  Take your friend and go in as a couple and sign it together.

    Trudy,
We need to keep batting away! I am glad you are still here and helping so many! It's great to hear all about the WINS!! Thanks to all who have share their success stories. It helps people like Trudy and me to stay with this.

Yes, BBB is BAD BAD BAD! It's too bad you couldn't see the expose that was done. Basically they showed how BBB complaints magically disappeared off of their website and letter grades became A's & A+'s once the BBB got paid. Smells like a rat to me! They even had people register as bogus businesses like the Aryan Nation & get an A rating after payment. The leader of the BBB actually walked out on the interview. I guess it was getting to be too HOT in the kitchen, so to speak!

There is no new news from the class action lawsuits, so if people can call and contact the attorneys (I think they're tired of hearing from me!) that would be helpful. Let's keep up the pressure! Thanks to all who are warning their family & friends to stay away from DB!

I do not see my other post.  Hope this doesn't come up as a duplicate.  If it does I apologize.  Trudie, I need some help.  I did exactly as suggested.  I researched agencies in NJ, wrote an initial letter to the DB I joined.  I sent it certified, it was received and signed for.  I heard nothing from them so after 10 days I sent a letter to 4 NJ agencies including the BBB and I sent a letter to the main headquarters for Direct Buy.  It has been about 9 days and I have heard nothing from no one. I just checked the BBB site and it looks like the local DB went out of business.  They must have done it recently and they are not listed on the Main DB site anymore.  Does this mean I still have to make that payment?  Any ideas on how to proceed from here.

    HI Carol
if you owe payments to a 3rd party, you cannot stop payment
you can make a complaint IN WRITING ONLY, & follow-up by FAX
to whomever you make the payments too,
claim that this is Fraud because you are making payments,
for a co.  -out of business-
*they may ask for proof of the closure, find written proof of this,

YOU need to up-date this info, to agencies you have complained to

YOU said you sent Registered mail to location you joined
Take your delivery rec't to the post ofc. or call them,  ask:

Where is the letter you sent, was it received by someone,
was it sent back to the post ofc./ or find out where your letter went,
if the location was already closed????Did you clearly fill in your return address
LET ME KNOW, then I will know better how to help you...

My original letter went to the Direct Buy that we unfortunately signed the agreement at and was sent 10/18.  I heard nothing from them.  They were still open at that time.  It was sent Certified and it was signed for at their Eatontown location and we did recieve the receipt back in the mail.  On 11/2 I sent another letter to their main location in Indiana, one to the BBB in NJ, one to the local Economic Development Advisory Committee, one to the Office of the Attorney General and one to the office of the Consumer Protection Agency in NJ.  Yesterday I received a letter from the Attorney General's office saying they were sending the complaint to an office closer to me.  I tried to call that office today and they have not received it yet and asked that I call back Monday, which I will.  I did not hear anything from the BBB or the DB Headquarters.  The only reason I know they closed is I checked the BBB site Wed to see if they received my claim and that is where I see they closed.  I also checked the main DB site and this location is no longer listed as one of their locations. there.  They had to have closed within the past month.  I do not know where to find proof unless I can just print it from the BBB page.  They are very secretive about this.

    The Devil's Advocate
Reading my local news paper and casually surfing the internet and a thought came to me.  Thieves, murderers, kidnappers, and sex offenders all get identified once they are accused of a crime.  Alot of us are now victims of corporate crime.  Wouldn't it be something if we all identified that corporate crook who it didn't bother a bit to trick us into signing away all of our rights.  If you do it don't use your real name and don't do it under your usual nickname.  If you've already told your story on here to where it can be matched up don't do it at all.  New victims just finding us post under "Direct Buy Registered Liar List" and name the person who signed for Direct Buy on your agreements.  Don't have to list your store location just your state.

Example:  My Direct Buy liar was John Doe, New York.  2 days ago.

So now we can know who they are.  Never know one of us might be their future employer they are begging for a job with, own the house or apartment complex they just asked about renting, that police officer who might've let them off with a warning, that kindly neighbor who would have rounded up clothing and household goods for them after their house burned, that person who wouldn't think twice about dropping some cash in the jar of local Quik Mart because they have leukemia and didn't have insurance to cover treatments.  Never know, we might see some news story where they've been severely injured and somebody is doing a blood drive in their name.

My little monthly payment may be chump change to some but for others it could mean the difference in having enough money to cover utilities, provide enough food for your family, have your car repaired, being able to buy your child something special every now and then, not having to work two jobs to get by, meeting rent or a house payment, purchase your monthly medications, not having to utilize credit just to get by, having something left at the end of the month, not always living pay check to pay check, etc. etc.  You see Alphie, everybody on here is not some jet setter with a bottomless wallet who can drop 5 grand and recoup it 5 times over by dropping another 100 grand in your store to furnish their mini mansion.  Most of us are just hard working every day people who want to be able to provide to the best of our ability for our family.  We want all the same things that jet setter has we just don't make the kind of money that is required to have them. That's how you get us.  You know we want these things too so low and behold you throw us a line in the form of a phony sales pitch and a finance plan.  You prey on our hopes of living a better life than the ones we have and of course we can all afford this thanks to the thousands you are saving us...hey we might even be able to take all those thousands we've saved and know what, we'll be able to afford a better place to live too.  We're not the only ones.  You want the same things too.  Our dfferences.  We break our backs and work for the things we want.  You disconnect, make us faceless, pretend we're that jet setter your jealous of, and stand before us telling lie afte lie after lie and then brag to your coworkers what a tough but dumb sucker we were and you earned every dime of that commission.  Probably even take your tie and blot the sweat off your brow.

I'm not done yet. For all current unhappy members.  One thing is certain, none of us will live forever.  Don't put off today for the revenge you can have tomorrow.  Dig your agreement out and note the name of the person from Direct Buy that appears on your agreement.  Note that little part of the contract that states Direct Buy will act as your beneficiary and pursue your rights as it relates to the contract and where it states we may transfer a membership by will upon our death.  Let's all add one thing to our wills and leave our memberships to that person who appears on dotted line with us.  Wouldn't it a wonderful thing to know that one of our lasts requests will be taken care of by none other than corporate Direct Buy itself as it canabalizes it's little nothing pion employee for the remainder of what we owe.  We can always lie just like they did and and add; Mr. Direct Buy agent has agreed to the following terms as discussed and agreed upon such and such date etc etc.  I such and such being the recognized owner of this memebership hereby revoke my spouse from such and I am gifting full ownership to Mr. Direct Buy agent.  As previously agreed, Mr. Direct Buy agent will be able to utilize this membership in it's full capacity and as agreed he will be solely responsible for any fees, monies, or interest still owed by my estate.  In the event Mr. Direct Buy agent is married, for God's sake add his spouse.  Insert evil ha ha here and if you will now look towards my executor he will flip you the bird, ask you to lean back on his thumb, and you will now be instructed to crow.

just remember that he is not intelligent enough to even grasp the concept of what you are saying,

is when he recognizes his "real" name
in the "DIRECTBUY REGISTERED LIARS LIST"
