We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

I can hardly wait for my visit, I will give them a run for thier money and if they are preying on the disabled and the elderly well this one is and was happy to hear how they wanted to HELP me and my spouse. After reading this, how could someone invite us down there. I would pay not to go,now I feel an obligation. They will rue the day;)

Today I sent a cancellation letter to Direct Buy certified mail.  I hope they sign for the letter and do not refuse it.  I have also filed a complaint with the BBB stating they are falsely advertising-also stated in the letter to Direct Buy.  We'll see what happens from here.  If they do not give me a refund, I will go to the Attorney General as well as the media!

The biggest mistake all you people made was believing you could get something for nothing. Being typical humans when you realize you have been ripped off you blame everyone but yourselves. Greed will get you every time.

Filed a letter with the BBB  haha   they are nothing but a scam themselves. If you pay the yearly fee on time you never have a complaint against you. That is how the BBB makes their money.

This is true.  I have left messages for the BBB to contact me and so far, nothing. My husband and I signed up in Sep 2010 and we have tried to get out of the contract as we fell for pressure as well. I tried calling the DB and heard nothing back. I filed with BBB and they forwarded my complaint. When this company wrote back through BBB, they made fun of me, insulted me and told us we needed to 'stop complaining and start saving money'.  Of course, I wrote back and the owner replied back to me my 'invalid/false claims' rudely stating they were slanderous and I owed their staff an apology.  UNBELIEVABLE! This is by FAR the WORSE company I have ever dealt with...the BBB doesn't help what so ever. They are to be neutral but we know how they get paid. They are not there for the consumers. I want to add my name to the list of complaints to go National...or at least for the state of FL. I do not know where to begin. I thought I was going about this the correct way with the BBB, but little did I know, I was in for a HUGE shock.  I felt like I was talking with 13 yr olds. No professionalism. No common courtesy and No respect. I realized how unprofessional this company is...the tone of their response to me sounded as if they were going to file suit against me for "slander"!! I'm beside myself. Utterly shocked that  this company can get away with this.  I have not bought anything from them...nor do I ever want to. I would like to get our money back; but most of all, I want to get word out to everyone about the ethical poverty practiced at this DB Club. I pray for intervention. Everyone needs to be warned.

    Hi Trudy,
    Where is your site located?

    The Devil's Advocate
    I disagree.

My membership wasn't free.  The average membership of most of the people on this site averages about $5000.  With interest if they financed it's over $7000.  I don't know about some people but I work very hard for my money and I try not to waste it on stupid things.   My spouse and I didn't start out with anything handed to us.  We've worked for everything we have and we often do without buying things for ourselves so we can stay in a better position to provide things our children may need.

My spouse and I are very capable remodelers and do it your selfers.  Between the two of us, there isn't very much inside a house that we haven't remodeled, repaired, or built at some point or another.  Our home stays in good repair.  Before joining DB, we had just replaced our carpets with laminate, redone two bathrooms, and spent about two weeks stripping and repainting our kitchen.  I paint on average of every 3 years.

We did not buy into this hook line and sinker.  We needed alot of persuasion.  The problem is that now that we've bought and had enough time to evaluate for ourselves we just haven't found evidence of any signifant savings and we feel like we've been scamed out of $5000.  Would any of us stand for this if we walked into a car dealership and dropped $5000 for the car we wanted, got nothing, and then were refused a refund because we walked on their lot and looked at the cars?  I don't think so. If I walked into that same dealership and they showed me a red jeep, 4 x 4, leather, loaded, etc and I agreed to buy it for a certain price that should be the car I leave with if I purchase it.  Lets say I bought that brand new red jeep and after paying my money I get ready to leave and they bring me a 1977 wood grained station wagon but they stick me for $36000 simply because that's the amt I agreed to pay.  That's exactly Direct Buy has done to all of us.

Once again your tearing us down?  Why?

    HI Jade
BTW, this is not my site but it is the only safe one, where we do not need an internet address,
since you have been intimidated by the BBB/DB ...
I suggest being more discreet & not disclose specific details  cuz they do read this site...
BUT do not hesitate to ask as many ??? as possible,

Your welcome Trudy.  I thought the same thing.

BTW.  Thank you. I've read a number of posts from a number of websites.  This is the only one where some have been able to to get out of the contract.  I have had no success so far but I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet.

The true definition of Something for Nothing.  Direct Buy's Open House pitch.  We all thought we were getting something.  Once we signed and actually got our guides and agreements we all realized we paid thousands of dollars for absolutely nothing. Direct Buy was the one who got 5 grand for NOTHING.  Who's greedy now TBJ, Alphie, nickname of the week?

you must have me mixed up with someone else for this was the first time I visited this site. I saw the Direct Buy commercial on television and because I had been to the open house five years ago in Victoria, BC I wanted to see how many people had been sucked in by this company. I have been a carpenter for may years and of course was interested in getting products for up to fifty percent off. When I told him I wanted to take the contract home and read it his attitude changed. Of course the deal was only good til the end of that business day and I would not have another chance. When I got up to leave with the contract he grabbed it from me and asked me to leave. I must admit that I have had a lot of experience in writing contracts and much of the wording and what they were promising was completely different. I had red lights flashing in my mind the minute I saw the contract. Remember in the future if it has to be signed that minute, run don't walk away

Save yourself a lot of grief and let it go. Tick it off as a life experience and a lesson well learned and go on with your life. Something like this can become all consuming with an outcome that in the end will more than likely be not to your liking. Trust me, Ive already been there with a different situation and it took years to come to an end and it cost me more to pursue it than if I had let it go. Good Luck

trudy there is a lawyer referral service in the Toronto phone book and if you phone it they will let you talk to a lawyer for thirty minutes for nothing. Give it a try and see what the lawyer says. Wont cost you anything to try.
