We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

I was embarased in front of my wife that if i didn`t join i was to cheep.
Unfortunatly i joined to find that nothing thay said was true. I had built a new home & was not able to purchase anything from them. The cost of shipping & charges made it to expensive to use them. I tried to get out of my contract thay told me if i didn`t pay all of my payments thay would ruin my credit. [Direct Buy is a Scam!] I would like to get my money back.
Also keep them from doing this to other people. Please let me know what i can do. Email # RCElectric80@aol.com

Hmmmm.......who else thinks Ernie D. is just a DirectBuy muppet?  No way this website is going to give DB access to IT addresses and besides, most people post anonymously, on proxies or huge corporate servers, etc. Somebody must have a hand up Ernie's [***] (perhaps Bert, hehe!) which is still illegal in most states.  Perhaps somebody should arrest him and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law!

I was going to suggest the Consumer Protection Bureau of ON.
-But, I called just to make sure that they are still providing the proper advice that I had received, when I needed help,

UNFORTUNATELY, & not surprisingly, this is the CRAP that I got:

Moron want to waste my precious time telling  me that they don't have
control over contracts who (refuse to acknowledge db's OWN CORP. POLICY)
had to tell her that she should look up her own CPA of ON,
cause she is supposed to know that
A CONTRACT THAT FORCES YOU TO GIVE UP YOUR RIGHTS  TO COMPLAIN...(NO CANCEL)IS  vs. the CPA--
    & UNDUE Pressure to sign
& if it is written grossly in favour of db, it must be interpreted in favour of the consumer...
    NERVE TO SAY "Buyer Beware"
but she knows damn well that THE COMPLAINTS ARE MADE
"AFTER SIGNING"--if no one signed a contract with problems in it,
Super Witch that she is, would not have a job...
& if I DID NOT KNOW HOW TO INTERPRET THE LAW,
i WOULD BE IN THE SAME BOAT AS THE OVER 100 PAGES of complaints,
listed here, & I would not have got my money back
She treated me like I was Stupid
-Wants to know who I am, that is f€**, I am disgusted,
of course, SHE DIDN'T I.D. HERSELF!!!!!????????????????????
no wonder people don't get the help that they need
-stupid loser rambled on...buyer beware... and total nonsence,
antaganistic, telling me to put it in writing & fax it...
-i have to ask her what the phone service is supposed to do???????????
cause she sure as hell doesn't give a damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MY tax money supports this stupid disgusting airhead,
& SHE gets away with this

I THINk that everyone should call & START by asking for a name

    & demand help!!!!!!!!!!!

    MINISTRY OF CONSUMER SERVICES ON
    TOLL free
    1-877-665-0662

    SHE NEEDS to be FIRED
I DO  her job for FREE
would love a pay cheque too,
but I WOULD NOT have THE NERVE TO LEAVE ANY ISSUE UNADRESSED

AS if we are stupid enough to believe them

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP!!!!!!  DO NOT LET YOUR FRIENDS/FAMILY GIVE UP THE FIGHT, THEY GET AWAY WITH BEING SCUM,

I'd go with your credit card co. to recoup the payment. It's within a current time to start fighting back.  Get all the help you can with your credit card company or bank.  I hope you can recoup the money.  Their contracts are extremely hard to get out of.  Do it now while you're just within a recently joined time frame.

What does this mean? Can someone explain this to me. The following was on the membership agreement that we signed.

    MEMBER BENEFIT PROTECTIONS
Your satisfaction as DirectBuy Member is our top priority. While our genuine intent is for every order you place and every interaction you have with our club staff to go smoothly as in any business, problems do sometimes arise. Our Club staff and our Club Owners stand ready to help you resolve any problem you may encounter with your membership or with any order you place through DirectBuy, but if we are not able to achieve a satisfactory resolution for you, you and we agree to avoid the neddless delays, expenses, and uncertainites of court proceedings by submitting all such unresolved disputes exclusively to private, expedited and confidential arbitration with the local office to the Better Business Bureau under the BBB's Binding Arbitration Rules at www.dr.bbb.org. If BBB arbitration is not available locally, then you and we agree to arbitrate under those same BBB Binding Arbitration Rules before a single arbitrator through the American Arbitration Association. Whatever happens, you and we also agree to keep ever aspect of any dispute completely confidential between us.

    Confused?????
Not sure what this means, can someone please help me understand this?  Does this mean that they are admitting that they were wrong?  And if so, not sure how this is a settlement (given that they are still going to benefit with me remaining a member).  Here is an e-mail i received:

Most often, emails from DirectBuy relate to unique product offerings, but we are contacting you today to let you know that we have reached a Settlement in a lawsuit regarding DirectBuy memberships.

The lawsuit claims that certain DirectBuy marketing and pricing practices were unlawful. DirectBuy contends that there is nothing unlawful or improper about its practices and that its practices comport with lawful industry standards.

The proposed Settlement, if approved, will provide current and former DirectBuy members with certain benefits. Current DirectBuy members will receive a free, automatic two month extension of their DirectBuy membership, and the opportunity after that extension to renew their membership for either 28 months at the price of a 24 month membership or for 13 months at the price of a 12 month membership. Former DirectBuy members, upon filing a timely and complete Registration Form, will receive two months of free DirectBuy membership, and for any former member who paid the initial membership fee in full, the ability to renew their membership.

no charge for any other form of torture they care to give you
when they have spare time which they always do
cause no one works there except for the vultures who stole your hard earned money!11

    db are low life scums

    Hi, Trudy

My husband just joined last week and I did not attend.  He signed a contract and I told him that I wanted out because I was aware of there scams or whatever you want to call them.  You are never going to get a bargain paying 6000 overhead from the start. I asked that he call on Tuesday and they never returned his call saying only that she was on tour.  He is as of now disabled and drove yesterday and they said that she had left when in reality she did not want to see him.  Finally he told them that he was not leaving and all of a sudden she shows up.  This is suppose to be the owner.  She is the only one that he can speak to.  I want to press charges or want to find out if there is a class action suit going on in NY.  This location happens to be in Woodside Queens.  Please advise me as we are currently struggling and really do not understand how he fell into this trap.  We can barely make ends meet.

    Thank you in advance.

Seeing complaints here on how this contract can be so inescapable has got my curiosity peaked. I have never been a part of any deal that can't somehow be broken on some sort of technicality. Based on what I have seen on some vid clips of tv reporters investigating directbuy it seems like a 2 or 3 page agreement.

    Where's the justice?
I've been going back and forth with DB in Pensacola, Florida for several months. We have never made a purchase, nor do we plan too. I would like our money back, but tired of being demeaned and bullied by this company. On the 6th of January 2011, we received the same email as "confused???". Does anyone have any experience or insight on this email?

ost often, emails from DirectBuy relate to unique product offerings, but we are contacting you today to let you know that we have reached a Settlement in a lawsuit regarding DirectBuy memberships.

The lawsuit claims that certain DirectBuy marketing and pricing practices were unlawful. DirectBuy contends that there is nothing unlawful or improper about its practices and that its practices comport with lawful industry standards.

You may be affected by the Settlement if, as of December 14, 2010, you were either a current DirectBuy member, or had been a DirectBuy member at any time between October 11, 2002 and December 14, 2010, but were no longer a current member as of December 14, 2010.

This email, which is being sent to you by the Settlement Administrator, is a brief summary of the Settlement. More detailed information and instructions approved by the Court, including instructions about how to participate in, opt out of, or object to the Settlement, are available at the Settlement Website www.Settlement-Direct.com. "

Did all prior/current DB members get this email?

We appreciate any information shared and/or help offered. This has been a horrible experience for us and from reading some of the posts, I'm amazed and shocked this company is still around.

    Where's the justice?
I received the same email & have not responded. I don't want to be a part of a class action lawsuit that would "extend" the DirectBuy membership that I paid almost $6000 for in full & NEVER used. Their prices were never competitive and they also carried a lot of "old" model appliances. When you buy from DB, all manufacturers warranties are null & void. AND.....DirectBuy doesn't warranty the merchandise either. Therefore, if you get bad / defective product, you are stuck holding the bag. DB is a nightmare. I was hoping the class action lawsuit that Craig T. Matthews filed would have gone through. With that one, former & current members get their membership fees back plus damages (or interest, I can't remember which). You can go on the class action settlement site & read through all of the cases that were filed nationwide. If anyone else has any light to shed on this, please post. Thanks!

I called DB after I sent the registered letter and I also faxed the letter to them. I am within the 3 cooling day. I called to state that I have sent a fax and a letter. The reciptionist stated that they didnt receive anything. I reply nope I have all the prof that you guys got the letter and the fax too. However, she said I only got your email (as I sent them an email on the day got sucked into this)and she said she will be sending the cancellation letter today...I asked her to write me an email saying she will be sending a cancellation letter today Jan 13th.

Trudy what do you think? I am feeling like going in with my letters..is that a good move?
