Don't make our mistake

We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.
A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.
I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

No way.. Big mistake.. DB should go out of business. These are hard times & they still bilk people out of thousands of dollars..
BUYERS BEWARE - DON'T MAKE OUR MISTAKE..
My fiancee and I signed up for Direct Buy in July 9, 2011. After signing the contract we quickly realized that this was a awful financial decision. So I called the location and said I wanted to cancel my contract. The lady I spoke with said that there was nothing she could do and that the contract was going to have to be honored. That same day I called my bank and put a stop payment on the down payment for the membership. This was step 1 of 3. Step 2 I called their corporate headquarters and asked them what their cancellations polices were as a coporation?? She explained to many that they have a 3-day cooling off or cancellation period depending on the state you signed the contract in. So I wrote the cancellation letter to the location and thought everything was cancelled and taking care off. Well 3 months later I am getting a call from the fiance company stating that we own like 7k!!! dollars. I was beside myself, because this was suppose to be handled. Step 3 I called the owner of the location and they couldnt even find my contract, not to mention my cancellation letter. The owner wants me to pay him $ 1700 dollars to cancel my contract. I think this is a joke considering we never gave them a dime nor have we ever used their services. I feel like I have done everything in my power, and wanted an outside opinion on this.
Thanks,
BD

If we only knew then what we know now. glad, at least we didn't finance the money and our $5,500 is spent & long gone. They use sophiscated, high-pressure sales tricks so they can get those membership fees. Thousands of dollars to join a buying club is CRAZY... Go to court to get out of that financing contract/ sm claims..
It's over for us, the lawsuits are pending, don't hold your breath, but it's good to know of another DB store shutting down. Or else they'll go to another location and try again... ???? down w/ DB
Trying to do some research.
Must be the under 30 Internet generation. No problem paying $1000 a year for a mobile plan to send to send text messages. Where is the pay back?
Pay for a service with a payback mechanism giving a return over time when used, but too lazy to use it, and then complaining. Agreeing to a contract and then complaining.
Don't get a Gym or Yoga membership. You'll complain that you have to go there to use it?
When you drove there and bought the membership did you not realize you would have to drive there to use it? I've heard they have good prices. Not willing to drive half an hour to save a few hundred when buying something, that's nuts. I thought you can order through their web site, that's what their ads say.
I read some article (from legitimate news papers) where people have saved tens of thousands on remodeling. Is this true?
It sounds like most people on this site, bought something they wanted and can't afford. Is this the case?
If DB does not provide the services specified, the contract would not be valid. From what I'm reading this is not the case.
Does it work well for some but not for others?
Checked BBB, very few actual complaints about service or products.
I've read some people say it's a 10 year membership, others say lifetime which is it?
For $5K fee, retail gross profit about 35%, you would have been looking to spend 15K , or about 10K at DB (save 5K of the 15K) to break even. That’s what I figure.
I also heard they have different memberships starting at about 1K. I assume these have restrictions or limited use.
My analysis So far:
1. Need to spend more than 10K or at least 1k a year to break even.
2. Prices are good on most things but not everything.
3. Web buying available, but still need to go to store for major items.
4. Not good for poor people.
5. Can't cancel contract. Sort of like my cell contract (locked for 3 years)
I'm going to be doing a reno (50K - 75K). Investing 5K to save 20K+ makes sense.
I know everyone on this site is trying to recover membership fees. Mostly because they are not using it. Is there a reason why others who can get a real cost benefit should not take advantage of it?
We know, as do many, many others that DB pressures people to sign a contract for thousands of dollars before the chance of getting out their door, away from the presenters/closers or time to think it over the investment cost. They know if they allow people to have some private time to knock the idea around or sleep on it, they'll lose.
DB is not worth it. If the Mitt Romney crowd have the money to join and like it, fine. But DB will bilk anyone out of their money to get that non-refundable membership fee.
nuff said, nuff energy wasted. Hopefully this will help to run them out of town, close down and warn the people. They are scam artists...

I would like to know how to make this go away. I was not going to bother about the money that they already had, but with the stress and crap that has come out of this, I want it back. I have health problems and I cannot do this anymore. Any suggestions?
