We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

    My husband and I too were JUST PLAIN DUMB and signed a contract with DB.  I sent a certified letter less than 24 hours after signing stating that we felt pressured to make a decision on the spot (which we have never done before) and that we wanted to evoke our consumer right of rescission of our DB contract.  We were told we could not cancel the contract.  I live in Virginia and they say there is no law saying we can cancel within 72 hours.  There must be something that can be done to stop companies from trapping people like they do.  I am just sick over this!

      I'm so sorry for you... but there is supposed to be a legal 3-day cancellation fee.. take them to small claims court immediately but go prepared... jump while the fire's hot..  they're experts at keeping your joining fee... we too lost thousands...

    I truly have been physically and mentally sick over our STUPID  decision to join DirectBuy.  I wrote a certified letter less than 24 hours after we signed stating we wanted out.  They refuse.  We live in Virginia and have been told Virginia does not have the cooling off period.  There must be some way to stop these people.  To me they definitely use coersion  and a type of brain washing.  Somebody please stop them!

      time to   protest outside their business when they have visitors day,  get the local media involved ( unless the local media is [***] out to them by running their late night ads)

    I am trying to get out of Direct buy contract in memphis tn....can anyone help. I have never bought anything and I have been on web site once. I have tried to call finance company no return call etc. any help would be appreciated

    We have been direct buy members for over 10 years!  We love it and have saved so much money on the furniture and products we have bought.  I highly recommend our Direct buy and can't imagine how much money we would have wasted without our membership.  We do buy higher end products and I have shopped around.  I never buy anything without researching it heavily first. Our Direct buy in the North Dallas area has a very well trained and helpful staff.

    Thanks everyone!  I just got a call from Melvin who promised me the world.  When I asked him the company he told me DB.  After googling them I came up with thousands upon thousands of complaints.  We really appreciate what all of you have posted.  This company appears to be a scam.  When I told him my concerns his demeanor changed from friendly to aggravated.  Oh well.

    My husband and I have had a membership with Direct Buy for several years. It is DEFINITELY worth the price!  We saved enough money to pay for the membership within the first year. There are many local venders who we shop with through Direct Buy. We have never regretted the decision to obtain membership.

      it was NOT for us at all and they knew it when they weaseled the 5 grand plus from us that day.  definitely a mistake..
       $5,490 and third year they covered.. $200 ea consecutive yr after all that... Highway robbery !!!!!!!!!!

    Glad I read these. We just bought a new house, but needs lots of work so thought they'd be useful and are going to a presentation this Friday...the set up of it reminds me of the whole Time Share scene/scam.  Do they really give you the prizes they promise and is it really 90 minutes?

    Just got off the phone with Driect Buy's headquarters,  My complaint is that the Direct Buy I became a member of in Myrtle Beach, SC has gone out of business less than 2 years after I became a member.

    They told me they cannot return any portion of my initial membership as each location is a franchise.  They offered to give me name of the owners of that franchise so I could go after them!  What a bunch of bs!!  I signed on with Direct Buy, not some unknown person who owned the franchise.

    Anyone have any helpful advice?

      get the local news involved to expose the scam  on a national level,  you may not get your money back, but it will hurt the company.

    I agree with John Martin and Retired Army Gal. I signed up for the membership last year. I thought it would be great because in the near future i will start building my new house. I am a shopper. I work hard for my money and dot like to spend it, so when the guy from Direct Buy came out and said it was 4995 i got up and said thanks for your time. and he tried to convince me that it was a great deal. So I kicked in the car buying mode and wrote down a number and said thats what i would pay. and after goin back and forth and back and forth we agreed on 2195. I paid off the membership early because Beta Finance has rediculus intrest rates. But to the good stuff. I bought a Queen ComforPedic Loft Sparkling Stars Plush National Mattress. it is amazing. all the store and even online that had this matress were around 2900 BUCKS!! I paid just under 900 bucks. But I also had it shipped to the direct buy store. That alone almost paid for my membership For most of you people complaining about shipping. if you have it shipped to the store it is cheaper. I Know that requires more work on your part, but if your complaining about money its worth the effort. Also If your worried about sight unseen, just to let you know, they inspect the items at the store if you have it shipped there. i had a bed set that was shipped in(which i saved almost 1100 dollars on) and the foot board had a gouge in it. they sent it back and ordered a new one at no cost. also the shipping times. everybody wants everything now!!! they tell you most items have about a 3 week lead time up front. i got the bed in 5 days and the bed set in 12. not to bad? i didnt think so. it does help to rder online though. cause if you go to the store you have to depend on the person taking the order, then entering it in a timely matter not whenever they feel like it, and entering the order correctly. So to the people who have had a bad run, try putting in just a little more effort if you can and i bet you have better experiences. I AM NOT AN OWNER JUST A PROUD MEMBER OF DIRECT BUY OF SPRINGFIELD!!!!!!

      I recieved my invitation to go get their pitch. I was offered a Android Tablet and a $100 gift cert to some eatery. Didn't care about the certificate, but I did want the Tablet. After the hour and a half pitch. They put me and the wife in a full court press to joid. Lucky for me I saw right through the pitch. At one point, one of their Closers ask me if I didn't want their savings why did I come. So I told him. "For the free ANDROID TABLET". Buyers Beware. I don['t know even if I could have offered them less for their Super Gold membership, if I would have. Every other word out of their mouth sounded like a SCAM

    I have been a Direct Buy member for roughly 6 years. My wife and I joined because we were doing a major remodel on our roughly 2100 square-foot home.  We have Purchased cabinets for our kitchen, two bathrooms and our laundry room.  We have purchased appliances for our kitchen and laundry room and a bedroom furniture set. We are DIY people, and do our homework.  We had the same reservations about the up front fee and pressure tactic when we visited the show room, but were able to work out a deal with the owner to allow us to pay for the 3 year membership for a trial period and then pay only the difference to get the full membership after a few months.  We have developed an excellent relationship with the cabinet expert and the retail staff at our store.  We have saved in excess of $15,000 over the course of our membership.  I agree with the more balanced comments here.  This is not for everyone.  You have to do your homework, you have to have a relatively large project going on, and you have to be patient.  As for the people you deal with, I have found that the disparity in the expertise of the staff at our store to be no greater than at any other retailer I deal with.  Like many businesses, it seems to come down to the ownership and the level of customer service they are able to institute in their store.  I am glad we have a reasonably well run franchise in our area.  And, NO, neither I or my wide work for DB.

    I appreciate everyone that wrote on here. I won't lose my money. However, for all of you that lost money, I am willing to lose my time. I plan to go there and go through the presentation and ask 4 billion questions afterward. I hope that this will keep the associate from making any money and if enough of us just go in and waste their time then they will fold sooner than later. Hope others will join me.
