Don't make our mistake

We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

I just read all the complaints and I am scared!  We just made the down payment to join and am having second thoughts now.  Does anyone have any experiences with the Barrie, Ontario store? I would love to get your input before we are totally committed.

    Sorry to be a member
    Wouldn't recommend it at all.
You don't save any money at all. You can get the same prices out there if you just look a bit and save yourself thousand of dollars in membership.
Customer service o the store in elmsford ny is non existent.

    Don't make my mistake

so mad I never saw this forum before
DB is the worst mistake my husband and I have made! Today I was in there and i saw the owner teaching a new "recruit" how to sell to new prospective members, it made me so mad. Do yourself a favour and spend the 5K on beautiful things for you home direct from retail! I don't know how we could have been so stupid not to have done some research first before signing that ridiculous contract.

This is without a doubt the worst financial decision that I have ever made. We told them up front and flat out that we could not afford this membership and could we join some other time. We were told that we would never get the opportunity again. These are the very words that I fell for. That statement was a flat out lie. We were already financially strapped. Now our financial situation is worse than before we joined. We have not paid them since August 2012. That was July's payment.

I was informed that I had won. $50,000.00 kitchen makeover...that my name was already drawn. When i returned the call, my husband and I were informed we had won a $50 gift card and a $200 restaurant card, plus 2 airline tickets to anywhere in the US. All we had to do was come to the awards presentation ceremony and fill out a questionnaire.  We would then choose a golden key and attempt to open a lock. If our key fit, we would win the $50 K makeover... If not, we take all our other prizes and leave. BUT MY VOICEMAIL SAID I HAD WON THE MAKEOVER!!!  The representative assured me there was no sales pitch, they were not selling time shares and we had to pay nothing. I know it does not take 90 minutes to fill out a check list and turn a key. When I declined my "winnings", he hung up really fast!  I can't speak for anyone else, but they were scamming me!

We got a used tablet after 90 minutes presentation. They became very rudy when we went back to their store to complain.  Direct buy is a very bad business, we will NOT do business with them , nor people around us.

I am extremely angry with the automativ systems, I have called every number listed to included 0 for information and to no avail.  This is sad that the cost of membership and  I can not get  a live perrson.  I am attempting to "Renew Now" as expressed in my letter.  I am on the website and there is nothing on this page which indicate to Renew Now.  Futhermore, advance search resulted Now serching resulted in the same (nothing).  Contacting Corp office for some HELP.

Got an invite today in the mail, promising a free Droid touchpad and a C-note restaurant card. Big whoop - it's a tiny fraction of the enrollment fee. Now that I've skimmed the above comments, it seems very clear... anyone enrolling must (a) like high-grade stuff, and (b) already be planning to spend $20K or more on remodeling.  I think I smell "Amway"....  Being a cheapskate from WayBack, this club is definitely not for me.  Thanks, everyone, for all the advice both good AND bad.

It would be more satisfying ( and send a strong message) if some of the owners of  the sleezy direct buy   outlets  were  dealt with  off  their property ( by some really pissed off  customers  took it out on them)

Wow. We had a call from "Samantha" yesterday announcing that we had won a $25,000 home make over. For mere entertainment, I decided to call back (at extension 322 - giving the impression of a large, official, corporate office). The fella said "I am handling Samantha's calls right now". Then after 10 minutes of 'bla bla bla', it came down to the "visit" to go and obtain my 'golden key'. Of course, I declined but am now considering going. After seeing the posts above, I am intrigued to experience such a company.  It could be grand but maybe I'll just let them be.

My wife and I decided to attend a 'seminar' in Fresno CA. I was suspicious from the beginning. One of the salesman began sizing us up the moment we walked through the door. He turned out to be our group leader. I could not understand half the speech he gave because he talked so fast and glossed over so much of the statements made throughout that I decided then and there not to take it seriously. The showrrom was packed with what I would describe as fancy on the outside crap on the inside product. Impressive in scope and sixe but had a crummy feel to it all. Once we got through the talk and were handed off to the low salesman on the floor to breifly explain the cost to join he left and returned in a frw minutes and we told him we would not be interested at this time. He sarcasticly replied that he hoped things would be better for us in seven years when we could apply again if we liked. Thanks but no thanks. Then came the kicker. It turned out the $100 restaurant certificate was worth what ever the restaurant was offering at the time as a discount...$5 or $1.99 happy meal etc. In other words a ripoff. Then he handed us the ipad and told us basically it would not work unless we were careful to charge it overnight. I felt like I was being set up for a defective product from the get-go. I havn't plugged it in yet to see what happens but I am not expecting alot. Buyer beware. These guys are fairly typical sales pros looking to close on a purchase asap. If you look gullible the boss will take you himself or you'll be handed off the the new guy on the floor. Again, the salesman talked way to fast to be truely intelligible and wasn't interested in answering alot of questions other than the canned variety. I suppose there is a market for this type of stuff but only for those who can afford to let other people balance there check books for them. Good Luck
