We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.
A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.
I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

Congratulations on your refund! That's awesome news. You did the work & were diligent in moving forward with conviction. I know your refund brings hope to others. Woo-hoo, you won! Thanks for keeping us in the loop. It helps us go forward in the fight against DirectBuy!
You are truly the best! All of your dedication and hard work in helping others pays off. You're the "expert" and I know you're really hitting DirectBuy where it hurts.
There's another class action lawsuit in the California courts......DirectBuy is trying to get the case moved to a lower court (from Federal to California Superior Court). I am sure this is a delay tactic as well as strategic on DirectBuy's part. They'll do anything to keep the case "local" so they don't expose themselves as national dirtbags. The great part is that the attorney who is fighting against DB wants to file another case to keep up the pressure. He really wants DB to go down as much as we do. If anyone is interested in joining this class action lawsuit against DirectBuy, contact John Davis, Attorney at Law @ (619) 400-4870.
Keep up the great work, Trudy. Thanks for willingly sharing your expertise. It's nice to know there's still good people out there. Your generosity is heartwarming.

Built 2 houses during the 3 years of membership and only saved money on Kalco lighting (very limited internet availability at the time), Sherwin Williams paint, and a couple of local supply houses. (Electrical and plumbing). We tried many, many times to buy through DB, and were always able to meet or beat their 'manufacturer direct' pricing. Especially when you add their service fee, and inflated shipping. So from that perspective it did save us $$ by having their pricing in hand when shopping. Not real unhappy, but certainly disappointed with what we got for the money.
If you are in the States, you really should join any one of the class action suits. You really have nothing to lose, at this point.
Roger is your specialist & posts up-to-date records as soon as he hears...
As far as I know, there are 5 class-action suits & if I get any of this info wrong, I know that he will help me to correct it, list is in order of oldest to newest suits

There are some extremely serious charges vs. db that are above the obvious,
inc. the fact that there is evidence vs. them for keeping the bonus $ given to them by their listed companies & not passing on the extra savings to their members. There are other serious charges, & if you ask Roger, I am sure that he would be better at explaining them to you.
if you are in the States, as far as I know, you can join any one of them.
It does not matter what State you are in.
If you are in Canada, there are Consumer Protection Act laws to help you...
So don't hesitate to ask any questions...
There are some of us on this site, who are dedicated to helping others.
At the end of this site, we have a success story, where Dawn got her $ back, by following my advice...
So read the info & ask questions & act quickly...........
Don't give up
Thank-you so much for the praise & encouragement, your comments really mean so much to me & give me the motivation to keep on trying to help others.
I have made a summary of the info that you provided about the people to contact, about the class action suits, so it will be easier to refer people to. Can you please confirm the info that I summarized at the end of this site...Thanks again... Keep in touch
You are doing an excellent job & the fax you just sent is perfect timing, & they know that you are 100% right & have shown proof of everything.
I just hope that they have enough sense to co-operate.
If no response, your next fax should be on July 21, 2009 (10 bus. days)
Hopefully, that should not be necessary.
Near the end of this site, we have a new success story from Dawn, in Ontario, Canada. She actually got her $ back by following my advice...
So whenever you feel discouraged, you can read her letters and be positive that you wil join her with a refund, also.
DON'T GIVE UP...THEY WANT YOU TO GET DISCOURAGED & GIVE UP, BY IGNORING YOU.
Please contact me directly...I have many of the dame issues with DB and would like to know more about how you resolved the issues.
Thanks,
Gene

I sent you a Thank-you (after my comment to Dawn)because it's always really nice to hear from you.
I just realized that my Thank-you to you was delayed, sorry about that.
I have too many distractions lately. Do you realize that we have been on this site, for approximately 3 months? That's pretty amazing!!!!!
I never contact anyone privately & I am very strict about warning people to never give out their e-mail address (especially to DB).
From the very start, on this site, I have always responded the same way to every request for personal responses. Anyone who really wants to fight DB,reads through all the info & I don't have to repeat myself a million times. There are even people who I have challenged, as to whether or not they are honestly fighting DB, or do they just want personal info, to try to intimidate me.
I will still try to help you, if you tell me where you live, date of joining, & a bit about your situation.
Thanks for your messages. Sorry I didn't answer earlier as I have been ill lately. I am glad we're working together to "right the wrongs" with DirectBuy. I feel like we're the "caped crusaders" and need to lift one another up (especially those who have been momentarily beaten down by DB!). You are so great at helping others and have been so dedicated in this fight. I cannot believe that it's already been three months on this site.....Let's keep the "full court" pressure on. They will buckle. They will fall and all of the king's horses and all of the king's men will not be able to put them together again!
P.S. All of the class action lawsuit contact information is correct. In fact, sounds like John Davis is going to file another case against DB. They are playing games again trying to keep their original case in legal limbo over jurisdiction (state vs. federal court). By doing this, they're delaying the trial......All of our "membership" money is being spent on the best attorneys DB can afford.....sickening, isn't it?
I am not at all against reading all the info listed on the 17 plus web pages. If you have any "quick" suggestion that might work...please advise. I joined in April of this year in Pensacola FL. I send a request for cancellation approximately 3 weeks after joining because of the same thing everyone else is reporting...NO SAVINGS!!! It appears that their big ticket item is cabinets...that's their total emphasis on saving me money. I have purchased nothing and have no intention to. I saw something in my reading and you ask someone if they ever received the online info...I've never received my online info.
Look forward to hearing back from you.
Gene
I hope that I can help you.

Send Reg'd letter only: You were put under undue stress to join and sign on the spot, and would not be invited back for a second chance, if you did not join the same day.
The promises of the best prices and most extreme savings were deceiving & you have reason to believe that db knew that they would not be keeping those promises. The contract was misrepresented to you because you immediately found cheaper prices at other places. It showed you evidence of fraudulent actions on their part.
Their actions are contrary to the Florida Consumer Protection Law.
You really need to show proof of cheaper prices, to back yourself up. Keep copies of all proof, & include the manufactures i.d. codes (u.p.c.)
Ask them to RESCIND the contract & to give you a full refund.
Ask them to respond only in writing, and no other method of contact will be acceptable to you.
Ask them to respond within 10 business days, of receiving the reg'd mail.
Remind them that this is your second attempt to cancel the contract.

It's always good to hear from people who appreciate this site, especially from people who we can help to realize what a scam it is. Many people are suspicious that db complaint sites are not legit. As you read this site, & actually hear from people who have got their $ back, then you have more reason to trust the info.
I hope that you will join us to warn others and refer them to this site.
It is the only site that does not need a e-mail address to reply to others.
There is a list of the law suits in the States listed near the end of this file, to refer to, also.
