Travel Guard (AIG) insurance
Complaint
Bohica
Country: United States
Travel Guard insurance was included with a travel package I purchased. My flight was delayed causing me to miss a foreign connection until the next day. I filed for compensation with Travel Guard on return from my trip.
Three months later I got a call saying my claim was invalid because the airline was at fault. They said that I could write a letter and include receipts and I may still have a claim. I already had to get documentation from several places including the airline and didn't feel that I needed to jump through more hoops. I think that this is their plan to wear you down and give up. I will never do business with this company again.

I am in Australia.
I am trying to buy insurance for a 73 year old relative who is coming to Australia next year for a month.
Her Blue Cross has not come to the party. It wants all monies paid in advance if hospitalised.
I want to mainly cover medical up to $100,000 as our hospitals are as expensive as yours.
She is a healthy person .
It would appear all these cancellations policies are a sham

I then went through barclays and they asked me if i wanted to complain I said yes, the advisor went through to travel guard on my behalf to be told they don't have a complaints department since then barclays has now given me the adddress for travel guard complaints.
I am now going to ask barclays to re-look at the travel insurance they recommend as feel I have been ripped off.
I called them from France in July when i heard the tragic news of the death of my sister in law. I asked them if I would be covered for me and my family to travel home to Northern Ireland to support the family with the funeral arrangements. The representative informed that we would be covered and to make arrangements to travel and they would send me a claim form. I double checked that I would be covered for the death of a sister in law.
I completed the forms and submitted the documentation - they insisted on a death certificate and would not accept a Coroners Cert ( they even stated that they would have to check for pre existing medical conditions!) Communication was appalling. I supplied the Death Certificate when it was available in Sep. At this point Travel Guard stated I was not covered because it was related to the death of my sister in law and it was not covered by the policy. They sent me a cheque for £20 (Why!) as a final settlement. I have not cashed the cheque!
I made a formal complaint to Travel Guard and the Northern Bank who sell the Policy as part of the Banks Prestige Service( £18 per month).
I will now be taking this to the Insurance Ombudsman Office and any other legal or publicity service which will review these unfit insurance policies.
I will be changing my Insurance and banking arrangements for the future.
LOOP HOLES AND AN ANSWER TO EVERY CLAIM.
GOING TO REPORT THIS TO THE WIS. STATE INSURANCE COMMISSIONERS OFFICE ASAP!
I certainly would not recommend this travel company to anyone.
Is there any way we can get them to pay for her claim?Thank you for yor help.
