Travel Guard insurance was included with a travel package I purchased. My flight was delayed causing me to miss a foreign connection until the next day. I filed for compensation with Travel Guard on return from my trip.

Three months later I got a call saying my claim was invalid because the airline was at fault. They said that I could write a letter and include receipts and I may still have a claim. I already had to get documentation from several places including the airline and didn't feel that I needed to jump through more hoops. I think that this is their plan to wear you down and give up. I will never do business with this company again.

Travel Guard is awful!  The way they hadle insurance claims is unfair.  I provided all the required information.  And yes for 6 months they were telling me that they requested, but did not get the medical records from the hospital - 6 months!!!!  I called the hospital they immediately sent medical records.  Did Travel Guard really requested the medical records?  Did Travel Gurard received medical reocrds, but lied tome?  Don't know, but that was unprofessioanl.

In the end the Travel Guard denied the claim.  The letter that they sent me was not responding to my claim at all, it was very vague.  I didn't understand the reason.   When I called them, got a call back in 2 days) the manger of the claim department said that in addition to the doctor's letter with the date when the medical treatment took place I have to provide a letter from the same doctor saying that no treatment was provided prior that date.  Imagine going to the busy doctor asking him that?  He already wrote in his letter when the treatment took place!!!

    The practive is very unethical!

If you live in Ontario Canada and are having these issues, I would strongly recommend contacting the Insurance Ombusman of Ontario to launch a complaint.  I am currently dealing with the Ombudsman with regards to my claim that they are trying to get out of.  The Insurance Ombudsman can be reached at 1-800-263-1830.  Insist on speaking to someone in this office in regards to your concern.

Buying a Travel Guard policy for myself and for 2 of my friends was like us paying $3600 between us to buy nothing but trouble.  Avoid unless you just like throwing away money.  And yes, we intend to sue.

I unknowingly purchased a travel insurance policy with Global Assistance, Allianz (did not uncheck the box!) but when I tried to claim for a missed day of the tour I was finally denied.  This was after sending every peice of paper I had regarding my tour - there was no plane to fly out of on the begining day of the tour, and the airline rebooked me for the next day.  Because planes still flew on the other leg(s) of my journey I was denied.  I was told that all flights had to be cancelled for that day!  In other words you cannot claim unless all air traffic shuts down in the U.S. for 24 hours!!  What a scam.  I shall never purchase travel insurance again.  Sounds like lots of others have been scammed as well.

Travel Guard Insurance is a rip-off.  You would think you could get a simple refund of your ticket if you have to cancel way in advance with travel insurance.  Not so ...

Very interesting reading everyone's experiences. My husband passed prior to my signing for a trip and getting coverage. I needed to cancel my trip because of PTS and other after effects. In putting together a claim, I realized the impotance of proper medical terms. Be careful of wording. After being denied, I had my lawyer write a "reasoning" letter but not threatening a lawsuit. I gratefully received a voucher.

In retrospect, I would have read fine print, used medical terms right away instead of trying to explain in more detail, contacted a lawyer sooner, taken pictures of belongings and receipts. Sometimes it's good to photograph jewerly with a newspaper showing date and stateside location.

My mom obtained Travel Guard insurance. Today she couldn't fly because the SF Intl airport oficial did not recognize the policy. There was scandal and they forced my mom to buy Airport Travel Agency policy.
    They are SCAM!

How much are they paying Reader's digest for the mass mailing promoting Travel Guard?
I am glad I checked this site.

MY hubby and I were going to go to Cozumel on 3/23/13-3/28/13. He ended up with A Pulmonary Embolism last week (after a minor surgery)in each lung so I was going to file a claim until they asked for a years worth of medical records in order to file my claim. When I got the paperwork it was 8 pages to fill out. I decided to go to Hotwire and see if they could help me.....Why the hell do they need a years worth of medical info for this claim? I can see a couple months worth but a year? Please!! I am going to ask for a refund of my trip insurance fee and I will never use them again...SCAMMERS, SCAMMERS,SCAMMERS....

I too have had an encounter with Travel Guard Ins.  I was scheduled to go on a cruise to the Caribbean on Royal Caribbean on Feb.9, 2013.  I live on Long Island and we had a Blizzard on the morning of Feb 9th. The snowfall reached 32 inches in some places, roads and airports were closed.  Obviously, I had to cancel my cruise.  My claim was denied.  My experience with the company, I spoke with 2 angents, one was very rude and said my claim would not be looked at by a supervisor.  I was denied.  I did ask to be connected to a supervisor, Lois, got voice mail, she returned my call on a Monday, I missed the call, called her back 3 more times, a week and a half later I'm still waiting for that call.  At this point, I will take some of the advice offered and will call the credit card company and dispute the charge and I will take them to small claims court. I also agree with some of the comments that if you have health ins why do you need them.

Just an update.  The day after I posted my complaint I finally got a call from the Supervisor Lois.  Just a coincidence.  I don't know.  She wanted to know how she could help me and I informed her that I had faxed over another 14 pages for her to review.  She said she hadn't received it yet, that it takes a couple of days for her to get the fax.   When I called to confirm the fax # I was told that it came right into the office. So, unless the girl I spoke to was not being honest then Lois is not.  So I now feel like I am again getting the run around.
This is a terrible ins. company.  We take insurance to protect ourselves and from everything I've read about this company that is not the case.  Just an FYI, if booking a cruise even with an outside agent you can take the insurance offered by the cruise line. So if you are not told that, please inquire about it through the line.  You will have to set it up through your agent but it can be done.

We bought TravelGuard ski pass insurance.  A broken hand 1/3 into the season ends up with a claim denial since, surprise to us, TravelGuard prorates the pass on number of days skiied, not number of days in the season that you were unable to ski.  Basically, you are insured only if you are injured in the first few days of skiing, which is so unlikely that this insurance has no real value.  This is deceptive practice.

Another update.  Still haven't heard from Lois.   And yes I did leave another message.  I will have to go a different avenue. I hope Cruises.com gets wise and drops them as their recommended company.  Travel Guard - never again.

Me again:  I faxed paperwork to 2 different fax#'s for the same office as Supervisor Lois.  Approximately 8 days later I was told the fax never came through.  So, Tuesday I faxed it again and I am mailing Travel Guard a hard copy this evening.  I guess they figure if they string me along long enough that I will give up and Shut up. However, my husband and I save all year for our vacation and we are out  $1236.00.  You pay for insurance in case something happens, we thought since there was a Blizzard and no way out that we would be covered.  This is so unfair and I will keep fighting for them to do the right thing.  And reimbursement IS THE RIGHT THING for them to do.

My son was delayed last weekend at Heathrow for more than 24 hours and could get no questions answered. Told to look for his luggage out of thousands of cases the book hotel. All hotels fully booked within miles had to sleep in airport. Queues miles long foe refreshments, desks closed. Missed christening
he was going to. Is it worth claiming?

    Happy, but unsure
I have routinely purchased travel insurance through Travel Guard and was considering purchasing again for a couple of upcoming trips. I did have to use them once after becoming ill and being unable to catch my flight. They requested a doctor's excuse, which I gave them. They promptly refunded my money without any problems. I have to question if they are only willing to give refunds that are not large in amount to give the pretense of covering all things or if I was one of the blessed few that just happen to get my refund. The airline ticket was only a couple of hundred dollars. In any event, will be thinking twice about it now. I also question how much of a kickback do travel agencies, airlines, etc.get for recommending travel insurance companies??!!

I am very unhappy with the AIG insurance company; first I never receive the coverage to review, and now they can say wherever they want, is a long story, very similar to what I just read about the time, the wait, etc etc, and the ridiculo refund I finally get, compared with my $2600.00 expends on the ticket, just to confirm that is a bad company, but seems to me that the problem is that are NO GOOD INSURANCE COMPANIES!!!   what we can do???????????
