I had a moneygram account for 10 years. I used a shared account (which I have with my sister, who knew???), and my account was closed. No communication from MG, no questions,, no email, no phone call, nothing, they just closed my account. I thought, OK, I will work with them to resolve this.
So, I called the 800 number provided, to find out that no one knew anything. Then I sent them this email, ‘MESSAGE:
My account is locked. I do not know why my account is locked, no-one can tell me. I have emailed, called, requested information and have not received a reply. I would like to have any issues with my account addressed. After today I will start visiting the complaint boards, perhaps I can learn or add some information to them.’
I then received an email from mg with another number to call, I thought, OK, I will work with them to resolve this. I have been on the phone for the past 2 hours talking with people. After hours,  I was told ‘Create a new account’. But now, I cannot create a new account. So, another call and I was told, ‘Well, I can tell you where a mg location is’. NOPE, not going to happen. I actually work; I WILL NOT take off work to go to mg to send money to family members in need. So my 10 year account?? Locked??
My Decision?, I have now opened an account with Western Union and have NEVER had a problem with them. They have become my HEROES!!!
So now?, I am planning to post this on every complaint board which is available on line. I also plan to send this email to WalMart and every other company I can find which uses mg, and at the same time push the use of Western Union.
Can you tell my patience is gone??

    Thanks for your post.  It happened to me last week. Nobody knows the reason at their Customer service dept.  No reason. Mostly talked to people with foreign accents hard to understand what they are saying. My account was more than 10 years old. NO REASON, NO EXPLANATION.

      I was locked out bc I logged in too many times with wrong password, but instead of letting me answer security questions etc, they want me to fax or mail copies of my id etc to show I am who I say I am!! NOT!#

      The same just happened to me today. Account with them for 11 years, I used a different credit card than the usual and got an error. Called to see whats up and they said the bank rejected the transfer (fine). I said I can call them to say I'm sending a transfer. The guy said "no sir. your account has been closed." I said what, why? He said "I'm sorry sir, your account has been closed" WTF

      Thanks for your post. I do not remember very having a mg account but i just got locked out today. I called customer service and that it was for my own protection. To go into a local Walmart store and send the money from there. But all of this was convenient was to do it from home well I wouldn't have to get out there and through all the traffic and through all of the lines standing in line at the store to send something like this it was supposed to make it easy for you to do it from home that's what downloading the app is for. I never had such a bad experience with them because I never used them before however I would like to try to get an answer as to why i can't use mg any more.

      Western Union locked my account.  At least with MoneyGram I can still go to a store to send money.  With WU I can't do anything.

      I have been sending Moneygrams to  a central American country for a few years.a political shakeup stopped my donations to a needy family. so I now use western union.no problem at all.there are 2 post offices in my town.
      neither can help me.

        Could be ...because the post offices have nothing to do with MoneyGram!

    I forget to mention that I did all you have mentioned above to get the reason from MoneyGram.  No one want to tell the actual reason except "Just security concern".

    Same here. they close my account but in email they say as you requested we closed your account. i never requested to close it. moneygram is a bad company.

    My account has also been locked. I called them from my home phone which is in my name, listed on my account. I was using my debit card for the transaction. I answered all their security questions. After all this, they still told me that I could only send from one of their locations. They claim that the amount that I was sending was suspicious. What? $989.00 is suspicious!! Everytime I called I also got people with foreign accents who didn't know very much. This was very frustrating. I will never use moneygram again. I will also be using Western Union.

      Omg this is what happened to me too. They are asking question with an accent  that I almost  couldn’t understand (foreign person speaking here) and I was thinking my accent is bad :)  Result: account locked permanently even I gave them right answers!

    very strange company. I used online for years and then I got locked for no reason. I refused to send in my ID and went to store location for few years. Today I submitted my Walmart bank account and a military ID  a hour later they granted me access to online. I went online  set up my contacts and the system asked me to change my password after I was already logged in. I changed it then the system locked me out I called MG and they said I can never use the online feature again.  strange company I feel like they just stole my info. I will try western union from now on I hope they are better

    A month ago my MoneyGram account was locked. I assumed it was because I incorrectly entered the password, so I waited a few days and tried again, no luck. Just got off the phone with Dwayne and their excuse was that they didn't feel comfortable with me sending money. WTF?!?!!!?? I'd been sending money through them for months. Was also told to use another company to send money and was refused to be allowed to speak to a supervisor on the claims that they don't have supervisors. I told him I don't care let me talk to him. He babbled on about security [***] and I hung up on him. F them!!!!!!
