Account Locked

Complaint

I had a moneygram account for 10 years. I used a shared account (which I have with my sister, who knew???), and my account was closed. No communication from MG, no questions,, no email, no phone call, nothing, they just closed my account. I thought, OK, I will work with them to resolve this.
So, I called the 800 number provided, to find out that no one knew anything. Then I sent them this email, ‘MESSAGE:
My account is locked. I do not know why my account is locked, no-one can tell me. I have emailed, called, requested information and have not received a reply. I would like to have any issues with my account addressed. After today I will start visiting the complaint boards, perhaps I can learn or add some information to them.’
I then received an email from mg with another number to call, I thought, OK, I will work with them to resolve this. I have been on the phone for the past 2 hours talking with people. After hours,  I was told ‘Create a new account’. But now, I cannot create a new account. So, another call and I was told, ‘Well, I can tell you where a mg location is’. NOPE, not going to happen. I actually work; I WILL NOT take off work to go to mg to send money to family members in need. So my 10 year account?? Locked??
My Decision?, I have now opened an account with Western Union and have NEVER had a problem with them. They have become my HEROES!!!
So now?, I am planning to post this on every complaint board which is available on line. I also plan to send this email to WalMart and every other company I can find which uses mg, and at the same time push the use of Western Union.
Can you tell my patience is gone??

After many years of using moneygram online, I have just been locked out with no explanation. They said "you are not eligible for online services" and "it is to protect the integrity of the system." When I pressed them for an explanation tgey said "it is a computer system Makori mg the decisions and it does not say why it blocked you." Has ot occured to Moneygram that their "all I care about is integrity of the system" could human bugs being used to drive away loyal customers one person at a time? I have shifted to using WorldRemit. I think moneygram should be reported to consumer protection for falsely labelling innocent customers as security threats to their system.

I just went through the same hell today. After waiting online for more than 30 minutes on the phone, someone with broken english could not find what the problem was with my account. it's locked and they have no idea what the problem is.  it is just a waste of time transferring the money online. I am the 6th person I know amongst my friends who has gone through the same problem.

Oh my gosh. I just went through this today. Not only did they dance around the reason my account was locked, they told me my account was too old and I just needed to create a new one. My account is only two years old so I questioned how did they determine my account was too old. I got a long pause, then they hung up. Very frustrating.

My Money Gram account was locked out a year ago and after several phone calls and chats with different people all they could tell me was the account could never be used again. It is also impossible to set up a new account because their computer is keying on items that were in your old acct. Things like DOB, Phone #, Address, e-mail and so on. I have just decided to give up on them. I can go to actual Money Gram outlet but it's so far away it just isn't practical. What a sham.

Just made an account and got locked out as soon as I entered in all of my financial information. Very sketchy company. I chatted with customer service and they had to call me for some reason to tell me that my account is forever locked, cannot be deleted, and for no reason, just random security concern. And by the sound of everyone on this site it looks like they are pretending to have an online service when really all they are doing is stealing people's financial info and telling them sorry you can't use our service. So if by some chance someone is reading this before they set up an account I would highly suggest to stay away from this company.

Same here.... went to send money forgot my password had it reset went to send the money then got an error code.  Waited thinking it was a reset issue.  Called the "customer service"  and was told I could NEVER use their service again.  Mind you I was sending $100.  Their stockholders better sell fast with this shoddy business practices.

Very similar thing happened to me. I have had a moneygram account for roughly five years now and twice a year I used it to send $100 to $200. When I attempted to log in yesterday 12/6/2017 I received an error message saying my request was unable to be processed. After calling and talking online to customer service I was told I could never use moneygram again and needed to find a new way to process money transfers due to "security issues". No one was unable to provide an explanation as to what the "security issues" were. Very strange.

Yes, obviously.  They get your personal data, including account numbers which they can sell.  You get nothing.  Should be reported to the FTC or DOJ for action.

I just went through the same thing as  most users on this site. I have had a Moneygram account for about 3 years now and it's been my preferred way of sending money to family members in Europe and Africa. Today, I went to send money through my account; input all the personal information requested, credit card, passport number etc. and hit sent. It gave me an authorization number with a message: "We received your transaction request and are working on it. You will receive communication once the transaction has been processed. Generally this only takes a few minutes". It listed the amount, the fees, the total etc. Below this message was a "My Account" button.

I waited for at least 20 mins and nothing seemed to be happening, so I decided to click on the "My Account" button, clicked on "transaction history" there it showed the transaction as "declined". So I thought, maybe I should log out and log back in (kind of refresh), since it never showed me any message when I hit sent. Lo and behold, I couldn't log in, didn’t indicate if my account was deleted or not. I called their 1-800 number & talked to this guy with an accent which suggested he was in India. He told me my account had been deleted by their machine. And like everybody, I was on the phone for next 20 mins trying to get out of this guy how do I find out why my account was deleted since he couldn't tell or didn't seem to know why. No luck with that. He just kept repeating the same thing. Couldn't give me a number to call and kept telling me, I should go to an agent location. Thanks "smarty pants", there is a reason I created an online account to send money instead of driving 20 mins just to go send money.

This is a useless company and I will be posting this message in any messaging board about Moneygram I can find. All these years, I thought Moneygram was my preferred option to send money, boy was I proven wrong. I am done with this company, and I am putting a watch on my credit card or usage of my SSN/stolen identity and if my identity is stolen, I am going after Moneygram. And that I mean it. Same has happened to me from UK. I was a regular user of Western Union for several years - then suddenly I could not log in. I went through the rigmarole of opening a new WU account and got approved with ID evidence. The first time I used it I was locked again. Same absence of any explanation. So I opened a Moneygram account but first time I tired to make a payment I was locked out. My wife then tried to open a moneygram account in her name and her card. Soon as she tired to make a payment she was locked too. I am absolutely clean. It is very unsettling that there is no way it seems of any explanation or remedy. I send money mostly to Africa to the same people. They dont have bank accounts and now the only way of me sending money is journeys and standing in line at WU agent offices - very incovenient

I was likewise locked out of my account and told that not only could I never use their online service again, I could not even use their agent locations either! I am completely blacklisted from using MG at all, for life, as either a sender or receiver! Why are so many people inexplicably treated this way? I think MG should be closed out of the US and told that they can never do business with Americans ever again.... and don’t give them an explanation!!!!
