Rudest creditor I have ever dealt with!

TIMOTHY R.
Country: United States
I received a letter from this company, MCM on May 19th, 2007 on behalf of the Aspire credit card company about a debt. On may 21st, 2007 at approximately 8:35 a.m. Arizona time I called in to respond to the letter.

The person I spoke with was so rude, that I did not get his name because he actually hung up on me. I tried to explain to him that I had settled this account on April 12th, 2007 and that if he would like I could send him over, meaning fax, the original settlement letter, the letter from the creditor showing that this account was paid, and the bank statement, if they needed a copy of that as well.

This guy did not even try and talk to me; he was the rudest creditor I have ever dealt with. I know that nothing will be done about it and another person will have to endure his brutal behavior but I have written all three credit-reporting agencies about how MCM conducts their business when it comes to trying to collect a debt. I am going to search to see if there is a complaint line against the aspire credit card company, and if there is not one I will be starting one.

I admit that I have not been the best creditor in the past but I have fixed my debt with aspire, and for someone to act the way they did in order to try and collect a debt, you must have a load of delinquent accounts in your desk because if I had not settled this debt prior to dealing with this individual. I would have shredded your letter, and said the hell with you.

I do collections and if I ever talked to a client the way I was talked to. I would not expect one dollar from this individual, bottom line if your in collections, and you have someone trying to explain to you that they have settled the account, or if someone is calling to resolve a debt. YOU LISTEN! And you do not HANG UP! On the person because whether or not they have fallen behind in their debt or are current, they are still a CLIENT!!

Sincerely,
A client you will never have again.

These jerks bought an old Sears debt (under 1k) and are trying to collect on it. Served with a summons to appear in court. I answered the complaint - i'm more than happy to go to court with these people. ALL of my income is exempt (disability) and I have no assets. Odds are this will get thrown out of court because they haven't proven this to be my debt. They've not validated it in any way, which leads me to believe they have NOTHING other than an account number and a random dollar amount.

I'm actually looking forward to court - this could be fun! :D

They won't show up in court and the case will get thrown out....that is their regular routine.  I have been fightingwith them for 5 years over a credit card I never had.  I have requested documentation of the debt and was told that none exists.  Everytime I get the Credit reporting agencies to take this off my credit report, they file and put it right back on....I really wish I could join a class action suit against them and have them pay me for all the harrassment and irritation they have caused.

They keep calling my house around 8am every week looking for my sister who hasn't lived here for over 30 years.  They are extremely rude.  When I asked them what this is in reference to they won't tell me and hang up.  They have their number blocked so you can't see who's calling.  There should be a law about collection companies harassing family members especially when they don't live with you.

Send them a letter, mailed certified, notifying them to cease calling your number (nnn-nnn-nnnn).

If they continue to harass you, file complaints with FTC and your state Attorney General, then get an attorney and sue them.

You can find a consumer attorney in your state through www.naca.net

The people, who are working at this stupid company is so..... dump. They send a wrong name of a person to my address every 3 months to ask that person pay for their Debt.  They don't know who I am. I am a police officer in my county. I don't need to call them. I still wait until they understand the way they act on other persons that they don't know.

If someone else gets the same letter that they ask you to pay for the Debt. with the money, cash, check,... Please reporting it to the Police Office near your house.

    Thank you,
    Kim

Beware that if they think YOU live at the address associated with some old account, even from years before you lived there, they may actually "correct" their dunning letter to demand payment from YOU.

They have been caught pulling this little "con" many times, reportedly claiming that either "any adult was responsible for utilities at an address", or that "it must be id theft" but if you don't want to jump through lots of hoops to prove it, "you have to pay us anyway".

Their training playbook is a script for a con, with all questions leading to "pay us".

So I just received a call from "Robert", and the called ID says unknown .  Third call from unknown this morning and it wasn't even 9am yet so I decided to answer.  He asked if Edward was there.  Edward is my husband.  I didn't say yes or no if he was here and I didn't identify myself.  I asked who he was and he just said "Robert".  I said Robert from....   He said something but I couldn't understand him.  So I asked him to repeat where he was from two more times and finally I understand "Midland".  I asked him what is "Midland" and he told me that he could only discuss that with Edward or his wife.  So...I hung up.  Can't be bothered with this.

I got a call from MCM stateing they bought a five year old debt.   The first thing that came out of there mouth was i had to settle this matter right now today and by the end of the call the claimed if i did not give them bank info in the next 60 seconds the deal off and the matter was going to a lawer in my area.    The guy i was talking to twisted everything i said and had me and himself so confused i started laughing this set him off in turn setting me off.    After a few minutes of yelling and screaming i told him to f off and just give me his number and ext. so my lawer could give him a call, something my lawer did tell to tell them if they called.   Needles to say i have not heard back from them again.

I periodically check out complaints in regard to debt collection and the theme is so similar it's a bit scary.  People seem frazzled at what to do when a debt collector calls.  All you need to know is the date of the last payment on the debt in question.  Immediately cut them off with their babble and ask for the date of the very last payment on this debt.  You've never said it was your debt you just need to hear that date.  And if you are a smart cookie no matter what you say you do know approximately when you stoped paying on your debts from years ago even though we always swear we have alzheimers on that issue.  I counted the days months weeks and years on my outstanding debts and the year they hit past the SOL I could have thrown a party.  Debt collectors do not scare me.

I tried my hardest to work out a solution with those creditors and they flat out said no and immediately threw it on my Credit Report destroying me.  At that point I thought.. come and get me.  They didn't.   Their choice was to ruin my credit for years.   They Agreed to no payment plan other than HUGE amounts So I suffered through the additional years of bad credit reporting until the entire 7 years was up but they didn't get a DIME off of me and at the half way point they couldn't get it legally.  It worked.  If they are going to act like thug loan sharks to hell with them.  Many creditors I worked with were very honest and sincere.  I paid off every one of those debts under fair terms which also helped to balance out the horrific credit reporting by those others who thought they were getting me good.  In the end I treated them the exact way they treated me.

Anyway,   know your states SOL on debt and if the debt is past the SOL you're done.  They told you by giving you the date delinquincey began they know it's past the SOL.  They can't sue.  They wouldn't dare now after admitting to you they are aware it's past your states SOL by giving you the date and they are now aware you know they can't legally win a case.  Next...  HANG UP!  Sit down and write a C & D letter and tell them to never contact you by phone over ANY debt allegedly in your name.  Only contact you by mail to let you know they have closed an account in your name or are seeking litigation.  Point out if they do in this case the debt you spoke to them about has been aknowledged as past the SOL for successful litigation on their part.  You're done.  life moves on

And do yourself a favor as an adult.  Stop being a wuss when a collector calls.  Write the c&d letter.  End it.

My husband had a debt to Tmobile. Apparently it was sold to this collection agency in late January, but we sent payment to Tmobile in early January paying it off. Tmobile accepted the money. I called MCM in March to inform them that it had been paid. They were overly rude, and treated me as though I was a liar. I sent in their "dispute" letter, followed their protocol, and even did a conference call with Tmobile to MCM. Tmobile also sent a letter with verification our debt had been paid on March 15th. I thought it was taken care of. Fast forward to the following July and the harrassing letters start up again. I think it will be a simple telephone call since they should have this record. However, they have no record of ANYTHING and treat me as though I am a liar, once more. So I am in the process of redoing everything. Just needed to say how rude these people are.

Do not give these people any info at all, I have dealt with people like this and it turn out to be fraud! For one I do not like talking to foreigners who want my info!  I was on the phone for 30 minutes with this guy!  He kept saying the same stuff over and over again! I was like look! I will not give you any info of mine at all, specially on the phone!   He replied saying how do you want to resolve this situation then and got nasty with me!  Thats when I blew up on him and he was yelling back at me!  Thats when my wife had to take the phone from me and hang up! They are just rude, non american foreigners who want your money!

    Collector not today
They keep calling me with an un-known # & when I ask questions they get all offended! Who in their right mind would call as a dept. collector and block their # & think I'm not gonna ask questions!... Then as soon as I mention a law suit for harassment they hang up the phone! If they think I would give them any info about myself their NUTTS! I hope no one falls for the BS that they are trying to do!

I have settled three accounts with them and there is one pending. I called recently to state that I needed sometime until March 2013 and the guy said that it was not possible, and threaten me saying that they were going to take my account to the manager to see what they were going to do. I told him, it is not that I don't want to pay, I am just asking for two months before I start paying again. They are very rude and has not customer service skills.

Just wondering what payment method did you use? I want to pay my bill off completely but scared to pay over the phone. I don't understand why you cant pay online, so many people would actually pay them.

These guy's just called my mothers NEW cell number asking to speak with me. She told them I haven't lived here in years and haven't seen me. She asked what it was about and they said they could only discuss it with me or my wife (I'm not married.)

    NOTICE TO ALL.....
IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID ON AN ACCOUNT FOR FOUR YEARS YOU ARE BEYOND THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS.  THEY CAN NOT SUE YOU UNLESS YOU MAKE A PAYMENT!  MAKING A PAYMENT RE-NEWS THE DEBT.  THEY WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO SEND THEM A DOLLAR.
    DON'T DO IT!!!

THIS VARIES FROM STATE TO STATE SO CHECK THE STATUTE OF LIMITATION FOR "UNSECURED" DEBT IN YOUR STATE.

They always call me with a blocked number, they start at 8:30 a.m. call about every two hours until around early evening, I refuse to answer them because when I started payments by check, they took that information from my check and started deducting a larger amount from my checking account automatically. I called them and told them to cease these unlawful methods and the guy made me so angry that I could care less if they ever see another dime. I believe this debt is way beyond the statute of limitations, it is about 15 years old.
