The best thing to say is "I need written proof that I owe this because I have no recollection of taking out this loan.

If the pressure you, as for a name and phone of them and their supervisor. Then tell them "My lawyer will be getting in touch with you!

At this point, if you don't owe them, they will hang up.

I had a legitimate bill get lost in cyberspace when I tried to pay it off. Some lady in another state ended up with her name on my account.

A year later they finally realized their error when the other lady contested it.  This was 1999. I paid 1000 dollars and nine of it was credited to my account by NCO financial systems. The manager had stolen the payment I made and never credited it to my account.

Always request statements in writing and tell them you have a lawyer!!(even if you don't!)

The lawyer word usually scares scammers away! Never pay any bill that's not yours without it is writing.

Received call from 760.699.2014. Lisa Garcia stated she was a mediator and that in three days she would be entering her judgement and I was to call 877.657.6401. Absolute nonsense. I am doing nothing but file a complaint.

"mediator" means scammer.. replies to Madd1
These shakedown scammers use the term "mediator" to imply they're some sort of legal authority, maybe "attorneys" or a "law firm", while avoiding using those words, since that would get them into trouble with state AGs.
