Do not...I repeat...do NOT buy a Bluegreen timeshare under any conditions. No matter how sweet it may sound, it is a rip-off. My wife and I bought one, and we are in a continual state of regret about it. It is virtually impossible to sell (the same amount of points we bought for $10,000 are selling for about $3,000 online), plus we have yearly fees of about $700 that must be paid for us to even be able to keep using it.

Here are some of the things you may not hear while you're in a Bluegreen presentation... we didn't:

-each year you will have to pay both "maintenance fees" and "club dues," which for us amount to over $700. If you don't pay, you can't use any of your points at all until you do pay.

-many of the resorts they tell you about can only be booked in 7-day increments, which means you'll take that trip and no others for two years because you'll use up all your points on that single trip.

-we just found this one out... if you don't have the points, you can't book a trip... for example, we get 12,000 new points in July, so I called to book something in August. Well, I can't do that until I "have the points." Of course, by the time the points actually show up, all the places will be booked for the summer. We're all paid up on maintenance fees and club dues, so we will definitely get the points, but too bad... we have to wait. The person on the phone even sympathized with me and said he understood what I was saying, but too bad.

-they say they will help you rent your timeshare, but this is a joke. Your timeshare will never rent for anything near what you need to maintain the fees on it, much less pay it off.

-take a look at this web site to see what points are actually worth if you buy them on eBay: http://popular.ebay.com/ns/Real-Estate/Bluegreen.html If you really desperately want Bluegreen points, don't buy them from Bluegreen.

-they tell you that you can book things just a day or two in advance, but this is almost never possible in real life. Things are booked up months in advance.

Owning a Bluegreen timeshare is like a weight that you have to drag around with you for the rest of your life. There are many places that will rent timeshares if you like that kind of thing, and you can usually get them fairly cheap and without any obligation for the future. When I imagine paying $700 a year for the rest of my life, it feels amazingly scary. Don't do it. You're locking yourself into something that will never end when there is absolutely no need to do so.

They give you the free trip, then take advantage of how little you've researched timeshares when you're in the presentation. They tell you this price can only be offered this one time, and that you can't take another trip. It's all cheap sales techniques, and they wouldn't be necessary if it were something people really benefited from.

We even looked on the internet during our sales presentation... if only I had come across a letter like this, we probably wouldn't have bought, and we'd be much better off. At least take a few days to think about it. If they can't give you that long to think, they're tricking you anyway.

Buying a Bluegreen timeshare is a terrible decision. They, like many salespeople, will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to buy, knowing that they will not personally be accountable for any misrepresentations of the truth later on.

One thing they promised us is that we could rent our timeshare. Now they've done away with that aspect as well, so you either use it, keep paying about $700 in fees each year along with whatever you paid originally, or you just lose the points. Every letter we receive is something else they're taking away from us.

The most recent thing that happened was that we had tried to rent ours out for 10,000 points (most of our points) before they decided to stop letting people do that. So I called today, 10 days in advance, to check and make sure it was rented, since this is the cut-off for when I can cancel without losing points. So the guy on the phone told me that yes, it is rented. And I asked, "Well, what happens if the people cancel sometime in the next 10 days?" He said, "We don't have any control over that, sir." And I said, "I understand that, but I don't either. So what happens to my points if they cancel?" And he said, "Well, you lose those points."

So some renter I don't even know can decide to back out at the last minute, and I lose 10,000 points and don't get to travel or make any money from my timeshare for 2 years! That seems fair...

Everything Bluegreen does seems to be a way to get themselves more money and screw over their "valued customers."

And Bluegreen, if you're reading this, don't bother calling me trying to get me to revoke the complaint... we're trying to sell our timeshare as quickly as we can and hopefully never have any interaction with you for as long as we live.

I have been a bluegreen owner for a # of years. I book anywhere from 2 nights to 6 nights depending on where I'm going.  Although I have had difficulty booking bonus nights, I did so recently at Myrtle Beach and used a combination of regular points and bonus nights to stay at Myrtle Beach and Charleston during the week. You can borrow points if you don't have enough points in the current year (as long as you pay your dues are paid). It's unfortunate that your sales rep didn't explain all the benefits of the program and offer tips on getting the most of the program. Once you take the time to learn more about how to work the system and make reservations, you might be pleasantly surprised. Bluegreen continues to add more benefits and options to their program and are listening to their customers to add more features.  Use the website, the info you received when you purchased and ask questions.  Good luck.

We bought ours last year and I knew it was a bad deal, but hubby just had to have it. They wore us down after 4 hrs, promising us that after the first year we didn't think it benefited us BG would buy it back with no hassles. I should not have given in because now we can't get rid of it and the maintenance fees are terrible. Very frustrating.

The maintenance fees are blatant price gouging.  I have 8000 biennial points, that would not even get you a week every year at many resorts.  But, for the benefit of the doubt, let's allow that it averages one week a year.  My bill this year was for $761 for MF.  Multiply that times 52 and their saying it cost $39,572 per year to maintain ONE unit???  Then multiply that times the number of units in the building - even if it's a small place and has 50 that would be $1,978,600 per year to maintain the building.  Or over $5,557 a day just to maintain.  Don't forget, we own the property, so everything in the place is paid for.  How can the heat, mowing (once a week?), housekeeping (which isn't done daily), a few staff people and a few other odds and ends cost over $5k every day?  Must be the sales staff is included in that figure....  I can certainly maintain my house that sits on 4 acres as well as the 3 outbuildings AND PAY THE MORTGAGE for far less than $40k a year.

I will tell you what they told me...after I called them to ask what to do since I could no longer pay the fees and taxes and maintenance since my husband had just passed away.  They simply said that if I didn't pay them they would ruin my credit....so much for being sympathetic to my plight.
I then proceeded to sell my 2 timeshares to another owner for 1,000 each...yes that's right because no one wants a timeshare...they are a dime a dozen.  Well we started the process in May and here it is October and they still haven't transferred the title.  They told me it would take 60 working days and it would be in the mail...they lied!

SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!Buying a Bluegreen timeshare is a HUGE mistake.  They engage in deceptive sales practices from moment one. This company has lied to me on more than one ocassion. Also, don't bother with resell companies either. They are also an exspensive scam. I spent even more money through a "Timeshare Owner's Advocate" with no results. I cannot seem to get rid of this thing. I am currently researching a class-action suit. I have done nothing but throw good money after bad; And to all of you who say owners are whiners or that you like your timeshare -- PUT THE KOOLAID DOWN.

My husband and I took the "tour" less than one week ago for Blue Green's Big Cedar and Falls Village, Branson.  We have been suckered in to both an RCI resort in florida and an Interval Resort at Branson.  We were determined to just do our time, get our freebies and leave.  And wouldn't you know it, we ended up buying!  Holly and CJ were good!  But we finally came to our senses after, and mailed the certified letter cancelling our contract before we even left Branson.  Now, since coming home and researching Blue Green, I am so glad we did.  I wish you the best as you proceed with your complaint.  I am sure if you go more public with this, you will get HUNDREDS on board with you!

Been BG owners now for 5 years, and every year about this time I curse the day I bought it. Just think of the vacation you can but with 625 dollars in MF and dues then 167 a month x 12. yes this year I will pay it off then sell it at a fraction at what I bought it for. The most expensive lesson I have learned to date. I am serious I have never lost money on anything except this. Owned boats cars real estate stocks, but I can freely admit among friends here I am going to take a bath on this one.  I would be intrested to know how the law suits are turning out, and If the company has gone bankrupt. Lastly the main reason that decent collage educated people by into this is because the salesman are GOOD. They lie, tell you what you want to here, and it really does look good untill you try to use it and truly see what you have bought, then it is to late. To date 167 X 60 = 10020.00 625 * 5 = 3125 grand total 13045.00.

Never used PRICELESS. I going to go fix myself a drink now! Good luck BG owners, hopefully this time next year I can take my little check from the sale and the drinks are on me.

    Latter, post with any news.

My wife and I have the same old story... DO NOT BUY BLUEGREEN!!!  I am quite sure that anyone who has said anything positive about Bleugreen on this compliaint thread is affiliated with Bluegreen.  I honestly do not know how they sleep at night.  We are in a trap.  Yeah I know "We signed the paperwork"  You just expect that the seller is verbally giving you a description at least somewhat analogous to what you are about to spend $15,000 on.
We were young and trusting, just what they were looking for.  Now we have started a Christian nonprofit daycamp for foster children.  I just can't help but think what we would be able to do for these kids with all the money that we foolishly paid and ARE STLL PAYING to this scheming corporation.

Yep! We about got suckered into this one. My husband actually stopped and talked to reps after breakfast at the Woodgrill Buffet in Pigeon Forge. He's not gullable, he just wanted the coupons and free gift. But I could have really kicked his butt when he handed over a $20 deposit to hold our spot for the presentation! Who asks for money for you to see their product? Scammers, that's who. I was the one coaching him in the car before going in to the presentation that "should last about 90-120 minutes," telling him "just say NO THANK YOU" because it's a big fat scam. Well, after more than 150 minutes later, walking around with some poor salesman telling us sad stories about his disability (I'm sure there was some strategic planning on their parts for that one - young couple, bleeding hearts), we finally got ourselves out of there. Couldn't have been soon enough because they almost had ME, the biggest skeptic in the world. I was all for it. The presentation was entertaining, and I was looking forward to all the great vacations we could start spending together.

Thank God they were asking for an absolutely ridiculous down-payment of $2700! I had been to a Uniway presentation in my early twenties, so I was already kind of expecting something like this. But had it been something more affordable on our budget, we would have been one of the sad souls buying in to it. Then, because of my Uniway experience, I expected them to pull out the financing application after we told them we didn't have that kind of money to put down. So basically, had we applied for financing (which we didn't), we would be making payments to BlueGreen for the down-payment ON TOP OF the payments for the points (plus any other fees we didn't really investigate). I'm glad my husband and I learned from our financial mistakes we made in our twenties and finally snapped out of their "dream vacation world" before it was too late. Too bad I'll never get those 2.5+ hours back in my life. I am surprised we got our $20 back...well, it's a check we haven't tried to deposit yet. And I'm glad they upheld their end of the deal, giving us a sweet $75 visa gift card...but then again, we haven't tried to use it yet.

Geez, I really think this crap should be illegal. I think Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge should protect their patrons and start banning these vultures. THEY'RE EVERYWHERE! BEWARE!

I wish I had taken the time to find this site, and many others like it, discussing Bluegreen's business practices at the time they took over our timeshare in Atlantic City. We have had our week at Atlantic Palace for many years and never had any problems until Bluegreen took over. Now they inform me the rules have changed (although there was no notice) and although we've always had week 52 and attended sales presentations outlining why that was so much more valuable, there is no way to use my week and we are simply out the maintainence fees for the year. In fact, the Bluegreen rep sympathized but told me that's how they make their money, relying on owners not to book their week in time so they can be rented out. Do not do business with Bluegreen if you can avoid it!

All the postings are right. My wife and I just returned from Branson. We went on the $99 Bass Pro shop 2 night 3 day trip. We have been to many time shares. This was by far one of the worst. We will never take a trip like this again. Every thing you read on the site is what happened to us, high pressure sales, two hours seemed like forever. I blow my top after saying no for hours, he turned to my wife and tried to make a deal with her. I don't know how these people can sleep at night doing what they do. I don't like saying bad things about people, but if it can help some one else from going through this then it is the right thing to do. Thank god we did not buy anything. The hotel was OK, we were given $100 gift card, but it was not worth it. Never again.

We have BG and we're trying to get rid of them.  Write to BBB, your state attorney general and FTC.  We did the same.  It should help if we all do it as there is strength in numbers.
