I am being sued by Mary Jane Elliott in Novi, MI for a Washington Mutual credit card that I have never had.  I asked for verification of debt at which they laughed and said they would sue me.  Sure enough, I have received the summons and complaint.
I called JP Morgan/Chase who purchased Washington Mutual who said I do not now or have I ever had an account with Washington Mutual.  They also said that since Washington Mutual has very publicly went under, many unscrupulous collection agencies and low-level attorneys are using Washington Mutual's name and harassing people.
If you search Mary Jane Elliott on the internet you will see that this pathetic agency is fraudulently suing many people!

Yeah, I have also been sued by her as well. I do admit to the debt, but, I do not admit to the amount. My credit limit was for 500.00, and, my credit report shows it is at 1459.00, however, i get a letter from her and it said 2300!! Wow, what a difference? I am going to call her in the morning, and by the way it sounds, she is not very nice about settling? I hope she will, cuz I cannot afford this right now.

I hope everyone gets their stuff taken care of! :) Good luck to ya'll!!!

This Mary Jane Elliott is TRASH.

She buys unpaid debt from collection agencies and then TRIES to pin it on unsuspecting innocent people.

It you receive a phone call or letter from her.  DON'T WORRY!  Her cases are thrown out of court!  Just demand that she provide the credit card application that you signed.

It's non-existent because she finds someone with a similar name, or worse you are now living at an address where the credit card holder once lived, and she goes after you!

Trust me!!!  DEMAND the original signed document.

Don't agree to make PAYMENTS to this [***]!

      Don't let her scare you.................

I had a credit card back in 2002, and MJE has just sent me a garnishment for my tax refund. However, this is the second year she has done this (shame on me, I didn't do anything last year because my mother had just passed and I was so out of it). But, now I am ready to do something, but I don't know what I can do? I would like to make a settlement, but it sounds like she will take my tax refund forever? Should I contact the court and request a hearing?

    Thanks!!!

For you people who are having their state refunds taken, short-pay on your payroll taxes throughout the year so there IS NO REFUND to have taken.

    This Mary Jane Elliott

Let me tell you this from experience with this low life.

No phone calls to me, no letters to me.
But on a Sunday afternoon I was “served” papers that Mary Jane Scum-Bucket was taking me to court for over $2400.00.

I called the telephone number on the papers and it was a recording, when someone answered I was told the conversation was being recorded and did I want to set up payment options.

    @@@ You MUST say no!

I asked what this was about and all I was told was that was an old credit card debt and that is all the information I would receive.  I was told to call Midland, who was the apparent debt holder.  I called Midland and was told the same thing, they would provide no information to me, BUT would set up a payment plan

    I said no.

@@@ You must also say NO!

I called a lawyer and was fortunate that they were really nice to me, I advised them I was unemployed and honestly didn’t know where this debt came from.

The lawyer said Mary Jane Elliott buys OLD (years old) debt from collection agencies for pennies on the dollar. (So another word, of the credit card debt was $4000.00 Mary Jane bought for $10.00) and she goes after the original $4000.00 plus fees.

I was told this is a VERY EASY case for me to win.  I didn’t need a lawyer.

Step 1) NEVER says the debt is yours. NEVER

    Step 2) never sign ANYTHING

Step 3) Go to court, don’t avoid it. You will sit down with a mediator at first.  They will try to have you and Mary Jane come to terms.   DON’T agree to anything.  Just say the bill or Debt is NOT YOURS.

Step 4) you will now probably leave the meeting room at the city court house.  And then Mary Jane will serve you again, and this time you will go before either another mediator or a judge.  You will be asked to submit your side.  All you say, is you don’t recall this debt and would like to the ORIGINAL SIGNED CREDIT CARD APPLICATION.

    Step 5) YOU WIN!

May Jane can’t produce the signed credit card application (even if you did sign one) because she was never the original debtor.

    You win!

It may take a few trips to your local court house, but never admit to anything and just ask to see the signed application!

I did it!  It worked for me. Don’t let her scare you.  She is the scum of the earth.

Mary Jane Elliott P.C. P32732 Joanne - Her assistant Collection on a non verified debt 10 years old Novi, Michigan

Have been dealing with this company for three years now and filed several complaints with several state and federal agencies. I am now sueing them for several violations of the Fair debt collections act; I suggest you do the same if your having issues with this company.

This was a non-confirmed debt from over 10 years ago. Michigan statue of limitations is 6years.

None of them have any charges on the Michigan Disciplined Attorneys list.

I then checked to see if Elliott is a licensed collection agency in the State of Michigan's licensing database, searching under collection practices. Results:

    1. Under the name of the corporation, Mary Jane M. Elliott, PC, no records were found.
    2. Search by city (Novi, MI), no records were found.

It looks like she may be in violation of state licensing laws if she's collecting on debts using her business name. On her website [ http://mjelliott.com/ ] (which is only a payment form, there's no information about the company whatsoever), it says in the bottom box:

"I understand that Mary Jane Elliott, PC is a law firm and a debt collector and that this is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose

Hey, let's pool our funds and file a class action, against this woman.  She is buying "write offs" and making money off from them.  In my case I lost my job..I could deal with the write off, it ruined my credit.  Now a bottom feeder, wants to make a profit from my job loss.
