There is a 888 8964442 number  on my bank statement. I was told to contact this number and request they refund my money. If they refuse, the bank will do an investigation and most likely the money will be refunded. We'll see.

I just had the exact same thing happen to me . On Jan 4th , I was charged 39.95 on my visa card . This kind of thing really hurts people . Especially when I live on a very tight budget . Something should be done about these people. They've taken money from my family , and don't give a second thought about it !

Did any of you sign up for Ancestry.com approximately a year before this charge? I did....I paid for a year membership in Jan 2012, but then stopped using it and cancelled my membership. Well it seems like they never cancelled the membership and somehow they automatically renewed it on Friday. I too freaked out today after I saw the $39.95 charge on my account and started see all these complaints posted. After calling my bank, they gave me the same number listed in a previous post. I called the number and spoke to someone from ancestry/archives.com who explained the auto renewal. I had them cancel the account and they will refund the money. If for some reason it doesn't happen, my bank said they would help dispute the charge. We also went ahead and cancelled my debit/credit card and reissued a new one to make sure this doesn't happen again. I hope this helps you!

Yes.  That is precisely what I did.  They were even able to tell me what ancestor I searched for last year by name.  I did in fact register with Ancestry.com, and  at that time, I agreed to the terms of an autorenewal.  I simply asked them to cancel the account and the charge, and that's what they did.  I don't believe all of the horror stories about clandestine scanners at wal-mart.

I just talked to a lady from ancestry.com and she said that I signed up last year, who I looked for and said that they would cancel the membership, but not refund the money. I can't afford this kind of crap. Talking to my bank now.

Yes, I've been charged 2 months in row, never signed up for or used this site.  I  emailed them with the threat of contacting Attorney General's Office if my money is not returned.

I just called the archive and had the charges removed. I did one search a year ago and even removed my cc from the site but she said it doesn't cancel the acct. Didnt ecplain why the sister company charged me also. I had to ask for a mgr to have the charges removed. They can see I only did one search and no more.

This website is a nightmare, A SCAM. I have no recollection of signing up! They say SOMEONE ELSE signed me up using my credit card but won't tell me who! They said they have to protect THAT person, the one they won't name. This is over a year now and they won't refund. BEWARE. These guys ought to be in jail.
