I just discovered a $19.95 out of my account for this same company for last month (July) I
have never used them before but  remembered using a site similar to them where they charged $1.00 for 1 week trial but I called & cancelled after 1 day. That showed on my bank statement for that month (June) Makes me wonder if these 2 are in this together??

I called them today about our Jan 2014 charge that my husband saw on his account. We had signed up in 2012 to look up one deceased relative's facts for paper-work using free trial period, which only lasted 7 days. I didn't write myself a note, so I failed to cancel & knew we just threw 39.95 down the tubes. What's worse is, I forgot to cancel when that year was up, so we got charged in 2013 & my husband never caught it! this means 39.95x2=79.90 down the tubes!
The gentleman was nice & professional and DID refund me the most recent charge, but said he couldn't refund the ones from previous years. I accepted that, since it was my own lack of duty, & the free trial period does explain that it will do auto charges if you don't cancel. The way they have it set up & written, I did agree to that when i signed up. I just wanted you all to know that they DO refund a recent charge if you get on the horn & request it. 3-5 days is when it will refund.
P.S. The customer service rep asked if I would do a survey & I did. I gave him 5's (top score) because really it comes down to us failing to cancel, when we do the free trial, and us failing to notice the charge on our bank statements or online banking. I don't like, though, how they don't contact people who aren't using the service, to see if they are aware they have the service & are being charged for it. That would be too rational & they'd lose a lot of our wasted money that way. BOO-HISS!

You sound like an ANC Archive employee or scammer.  Out of hundreds of complaints, yours is the only one that is positive.  The Better Business Bureau will be at your door soon!

Signed up for a one month $7.95 subscription and they have been charging me every month for the past 5 months....I just caught it on my statement. l'll be on the phone tomorrow calling this company for a refund and will dispute the charges with my bank if I don't get my money back. This is how thousands of people are ripped off theses days...not large sums taken all at once...small sums over long periods of time, if it's not caught.

It is legitimate. Ancestry Archives. I just cancelled again....should have happened 2 months ago....does seem like poor business practice. However, it is better than a scam.

I admit I did sign up for an Archives.com account and I missed the reminder email that my subscription was about to renew, so I was charged for a new year. However, I am a little disturbed by the fact that there is a location under account info to change your credit card info, but the renewal charged the card that I used when I originally opened the account. When you go to the help center online, this is one of the FAQs:

How do I change my credit card information on file?
Currently there is no way to change your credit card information for a subscription billing within your existing account. We apologize for any inconvenience! One possible solution is to begin a new subscription using a new email address.
