Here's what you do:  You call them, and they will refund 3 months of payments, and tell you to take up the rest with your bank.  You can push the issue, and they can get approval from their manager to go to a year old, and if older than that, you can get them to do an "RMA refund" as well.  They will tell you you cant get other charges forgiven such as a sign up fee, but if you push the issue, they can refund those as well.  Just stick to your guns

I got the recent 3 months refund approved by the initial operator & her supervisor & then told I would have to get the other two months refund approved by the executive office, put on hold (5th time), then told he could not get that approval without a confirmation of cancellation which unfortunately was not given when I cancelled the same day I signed on.  We took turns twice again asking for further refunds & turning down without confirmation numbers & told that was all he could do.  So much for trying to stick to my guns.

Ancestry.com is a legitimate website, and ANC.Archives is a part of Ancestry and is a searchable database.
If you signed up for the 14 day free trial, you had to put in a cc# and click that you understood the agreement.  Many people forget that they sign up for a free trial and of course who really read the agreements?
If you or a family member sign up for a free trial and don't cancel per the agreement. it is not the company's fault.  However, if you call Ancestry and request them to cancel your account, they will.  However, you are responsible for reading the agreement and following up on canceling at the end of the trial period.    Yes, there are scammers out there, but you need to be responsible for your credit card usage and not blame legitimate companies for following their agreements.

The company is Archives.com.  It is legit.  I just cancelled my subscription because I hadn't been using it.  Just called the number listed on my statement.

Then Ancestry.com should re-think that relationship. I've tried to cancel several times, and their support assured me that it was taken care of, yet today, another charge appears on my statement. At one point, they were charging me twice for the exact same service, connected to the exact same email address and password.

I can only assume that the last two posts were made by employees of Archives.com.

Found a $9.99 charge on my statement and called their 888-896-4442 number to get it refunded.  They did cancel it, and cancelled my account which would've kept charging my card.  She said a Kathy Cox had signed up with my info.  She probably lied but I just wanted to put that out there in case they tell someone else the same name....pricks.

I was also surprised to see a $9.95 charge. I got worried when I read all the horror stories on here. But I did kinda remember visiting their site and getting the free trial (and some interesting info about my ancestors). Ancestry.com is a legitimate business and more than likely most of the people here submitted their card info for auto renewal as required to get the free trial. I went to Ancestry.com, a UK company and very easily located the cancellation option. If you take the "free" trial, you also accept responsibility for cancelling before charges occur.

I see that all of the dates on these complaints are from 2012-13.  Well,  I just saw a charge for 9.99 and I never signed up for anything on either archives or ancestory, com. I thought that it was an honest service site.  I guess since they advertise so much.  Well,  I guess they're back to their old tricks so beware!  They send e-mails all the time but I've never signed up for anything!

never been on this site. but keep getting billed for this amount. Please stop billing me now. I think everyone that's being billed should get together and file a lawsuit.

Like the others posted, I too found a charge from these people on my bank statement for $10.65. I called the number, was put on hold, and surfed through the comments posted here. After a few minutes, a woman picked up the other line. When asked what the charge was for she verified who I was. Turns out it was with www.archives.com. I had forgotten I used their site to try to get some information from them without paying the cost and forgot. Also to note, a second thing I remember was when I tried to cancel the subscription it seemed impossible to do no matter where I went. So yes there is some shady dealings going on here as with most other sites that make there money doing this.

The information in this thread, if read far enough, should be a warning to anyone who researches family histories.  I finally paid attention to my $79.95 charge because I had paid off the balance of my credit card several months ago, and was surprised at getting this ANC ARCHIVES on my electronic statement.  I guess I had used their site 4-5 years ago to research the death date of an ancestor, and somehow signed up for an annual membership and have been accepting it annually without noticing.  I believe this site is a separate, non-related site from Ancestry.com, which I have used more than once under my sister's membership.  If you research via Ancestor.org, you could be led to this one, Archives.com/genealogy, where they offer a free trial membership.  I suspect they are not the only ones that are offering FREE trial memberships, which might lead to an ongoing, automatic renewal at the end of the trial period.  Getting my refund for one year, lesson learned, I hope!
