I received a call from an Indian accent man named Patrick Smith telling me that I have been selected for a good citize grant of 7,000. He said that the government pick 2,000 people to good  citizens who don't have a felony. He asked me what would I use the money for so I told him i'm going to pay my rent and put some money on my car. This man, told me I can't use it on alcohol  or gambling. I told him did you hear what I was using the money for? Did I say anything about gambling or alcohol? The man was quite, so he went on about do I have a bank account I told him no then he ask do I have a credit card so the money can go on it, I said no so then he asked if I was near a western union so I can pick up the money I said yes I know where one is. Then he told me that I need $250.00 a one time transaction fee and the money will go to the red cross. So I told him I don't have the money so he said get it from somebody and when you do call this number and give them your confirmation number which he had gave me. I look up the address he gave me click on a link and it said fraud alert call this number and report it and that's what I did. so the next day so call Patrick Smith from Indian with an American name call me back and asked me did I call and setup my account so I can get my money I told him no this is a fraud he told me no it's not he gave me what he call his I.D. Number. So he gave me a 202 number to call and ask for Jennifer Lopez can yall believe that!!!!!!!!!! I ask him how are you in Washington but calling me from a New York number? He couldn't answer. After I got off the phone with him I tried to call the number he call me from back and it says this is not a working number. Just be careful with things like this. Tell your family and friends about this scam and if your not sure about it look it up. Thank you for reading my story.

Just received same call indicating the government was giving me a $7,000 grant.  I asked him what department of the government & he stated "Citizen's Grant Department".  The phone Number was 202 738-4206.  I told the man I was going to report him to the FBI.

Any time anyone ever asks you for money, and it's not in person, just don't. Ever. If it's some government urgent thing, they can get to you in more ways than one. Most of the time they can send a person to your door, especially if it's truly legal matters.

Just received a call telling me the same thing. They have been calling for the last month or so with different numbers. The latest number is (202)000-1111. They told me to call back the number (202)559-5658. I told them that I was going to go online and search to see if its true. The lady hung up on me.

This literally just happened to me at 5:15PM EST 6/15/15. I was caught off guard and very flustered with this unknown caller. He was rambling on like a robot with me being a good citizen and other things I couldn't understand because of his annoying accent. He wanted me to approve some info but I actually had him hold and told a brother mine about what's going on. My brother wanted me to get more info about this so-called grant and by the time I was about to put this person off hold, he hung up.

My daughter just had this happen to her.  She is only 21 and they knew her exact address and a private cell phone number.  It took me a few minutes to convince her this was a scam before I even looked this site up.  She said they sounded so believable and that it was coming from DC, they knew her criminal record (none) and address. These crooks are getting smarter, but the more questions you ask and push, they will give up.  Just need a way to catch them now.

I just got the call $7,000.00, grant all I had to do was go to western union and send the federal reserve or somebody whoever they wanted me send the $350.00 to and I would get 7,350.00 back. They even gave me a call back number and the number worked. I really hope Ryan Sanders from India waits a long, long time for that call. They are learning by what I have read in the other comments. It is fraud all the way.

I got the same call about a $9,000 grant.  The foreign speaking guy had my name, my address, phone number, and email address.  Then he asked me my age.  I told him well you tell me.  You know all about me.  You said you did research and I have no criminal record, etc.  So when I declined to give him my age, he told me to call 202-697-9531 right after we finished our call.  It's a DC number, but I didn't call because I have received about 20 of these calls in the last month from numbers all over the U.S.  I think they must have a stash of cell phones with various numbers sitting at their desk and just pick up whichever one they want to use.  Definitely a big scam and they don't stop.  It's unfortunate there are people who have fallen for this and sent in money hoping to get the grant.
