We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.
A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.
I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

I appreciate Trudy's patience and all of the time she's put in to help others......remember, she is NOT paid for doing ANY of this. She's helping out of the goodness of her own heart. We all hope that the refunds she helps to get and the truthful word we're all spreading about DB will make a dent in their business. We are probably making them nervous in that this is truly a complaint website, not some glossed over website meant for damage control.
Continue spreading the word and following Trudy's advice. She's spent a lot of time and energy researching the law and fine tuning letters that work! Let's go get em!

a letter to dateline? all media outlets are aware of dbs tactics thanks to cbc's or ctv's great story a couple of years ago. libel and slander is serious business.
better yet, get some friends and find the owner of the local db away from the office and have a chat with him, he mite realize the error of his ways.
I filed a complaint on ripoff.com. Not only did Ripoff.com send me an e-mail that I should try to work things out with DB but DB also sent me the e-mail ripoff sent to them (my complaint included) and said they were working on a CAP - Corporate Advocacy Program.

Rip-off Report wishes more companies would feel this way. Although we do not know their side of the story with your particular situation, with recent changes within the company, we feel confident that they will make things right with you.
Rip-off Report feels that it is very commendable that a company as large as DirectBuy committed to satisfying all of their customers. We would like to see more businesses out there like them.
ALL COMPANIES WILL GET COMPLAINTS, ..HOW THOSE COMPANIES TAKE CARE OF THOSE COMPLAINTS IS WHAT SEPARATES GOOD BUSINESSES FROM BAD BUSINESSES …
As might be expected, when you have a company with as many customers as DirectBuy has, there will be, from time to time, certain issues. They may be customer service related, systems related or personnel related, but the company is 100% committed to remedying the problem.
We know what you explained below in your complaint, there is no excuse for this happening to you. Direct Buy made many changes with all the sales and customer service department, if someone messed up with you we can assure you, this will be taken care of by the company and they will be glad you made this complaint ... mistakes will happen - employees are human and things do and will happen. .
Someone will be in contact with you with in 3 to 5 business days - - Please give them an opportunity to make things right with you. We know you are upset to say the least ... please give them a chance - your complaint is going right to the top.
NO, they are not going to or can they sue anyone that was a real customer who are making a complaint. Top executives at the company are committed to getting to the bottom of these problems that their customers are making claims about so they can fix them internally so they do not happen again to their customers. Could we be wrong? We don’t think so because they committed themselves to this program, and it should made consumers feel confident when doing business with them.. Only time will tell, and we will look forward to your comments after they have contacted you..

Sorry you got the emails/correspondence from ripoff.com and DirectBuy. Some of the complaint websites are "hired" on behalf of companies who get lots of complaints. They try to do damage control & ultimately try to get you to stay with the awful company. There are also people who are hired specifically to write "positive" comments on complaint websites to bump the complaints to a lower position. After all, who is going to read through all of those pages? DirectBuy has filed lawsuits against some websites for defamation and also bought another one out and over 1300 complaints disappeared overnight and were replaced by all positive buzz.....curious isn't it? I am thankful that this website has not been hacked, nor has it been bullied or bought out. Our comments have not disappeared. Sure there are "positive" comments from "satisfied" members from time to time, however, DB can't seem to keep up with us. Thanks for sharing the information on this website. If we all stick together and share information, we'll shed more and more light on their scam.

See, there are many unenlightened people that DB still pursue and before they know what hit them, they'll regret dumping thousands of dollars down the toilet.
If there are satisfied members, so be it - they must be wealthy; own properties and houses to pour money into. Most of us don't fit into that category. I can't shop DB's ways for their promised deals. I can shop anywhere locally and get great deals. So DB is not legitimately helping us. If they want to "as Debby's Rip-Off Report indicated" make it right with us, they would rescind memberships, let us unjoin the 'club', and reimburse us dissatisfied customers for the illspent monies. Even if it's not a full refund, it'd be right for them to do it. Not refuse refuse refuse to cancel memberships.
